20.01.2022 The following is a brilliant tribute to the late Helen Reddy. We thought you might enjoy it.

19.01.2022 Today marks the launch of the 16 Days of Activism against Gendered Violence. This is a global movement aimed at eliminating all forms of violence that women experience, the deadly consequences of that violence and the impact of violence on our communities especially on children. You can play a part by attending events, having conversations, speaking up and of course advocating for your own safety. We will be sharing posts over the next 16 days, supporting women through counselling, support and other activities. Today we are hosting our annual commemorative ceremony acknowledging the 45 women who have lost their lives to violence this year. Please join us online at 9am. Follow the link on our Facebook page.

18.01.2022 In the lead-up to #WhiteRibbonDay on Friday 20 November and International Day to End Violence against Women 25 November, White Ribbon Australia conducted a national poll through Essential Research on Australian’s understanding of domestic violence. Alarmingly, they found that 42% of men aged 18-34 do not consider physical violence such as punching, hitting or restraining to be domestic violence, while 44% said the same of non-consensual sexual activity that is, rape. Read ...more about the findings on their website. The elimination of violence against women is everyone's responsibility. we do this in a range of ways; primary prevention such as theDVproject-2650, #reflectrespect and White Ribbon Australia to legislative protections, to front-line services for victim/survivors and men's behaviour change programs. What are you going to do? https://www.unwomen.org//e/take-action/16-days-of-activism

17.01.2022 Join us for our annual Acknowledgement Ceremony as we mark the beginning of the 16 days of activism.

12.01.2022 Destroyers, today we report the violent death of yet another woman, another death among the many often unreported and unknown to the wider Australian community.... Another extended family mourns the loss of a loved one. With great sadness we update our register of known deaths due to violence against women in 2020, now standing at 43. On Monday November 9th, police were called to Wanarn community, about 800 km north-east of Kalgoorlie-Boulder (WA), following the reported death of a woman. They found that the woman (54) had died violently and detectives detained a 50-year-old man from the same community for questioning. On November 13th he was charged with murder. Neither the deceased woman nor the man has been named as yet. Nothing further is known at this stage. https://tinyurl.com/y5enz4ss We extend our deepest sympathy to family and friends. Destroyers, these posts honour the memory of women who have died in tragic circumstances. We do moderate closely and off topic comments will be hidden. Off topic includes: speculation as to motivation, actions, background, mental state and drug or alcohol use of the alleged perpetrator; calls for violent retribution; offensive remarks to other posters; and any comment which may impact on court proceedings. We are currently monitoring several deaths, some of which date back over months and years. We try to be accurate in our record, and we will not publish without a high degree of certainty, but we can't know the full circumstances of each death until court cases or coronial hearings are finalised. We do our best to maintain a full and accurate register, based on our recording criteria. If you know of any verified facts which may add detail to our record, please send us a **personal message**. , . We have no wish to prejudice the outcome of court proceedings. Women from all backgrounds are counted but we make no assumptions about a woman's culture, lifestyle or circumstances. We often do not even know a name: this may be out of respect for cultural traditions or because of a court order. We add updated information to our annual registers as soon as it is received and verified. We’re Better Than That is a video campaign created to promote respect and healthy relationships, and encourage men to be active bystanders when they witness behaviour that condones and contributes to violence in our communities.
