25.01.2022 After reading other replies to comments on another post by LWDC, I do wonder whether the rumour is true that these have been put up by council workers? In light of the fact that there are no signs at Holder Bend or Maize Island, neither of which are listed on the council's list of banned camping spots, even though they should be, it has to make you wonder

20.01.2022 The latest in the Lions River Front Park saga - Cr Matthews wants it renamed. Does he remember why it was named that?

13.01.2022 I'm proud to say that WDRRA fought to stop any changes to the current Waikerie River Front and instead, extend it up along the western end. We are the "Voice for the Community" and now, those that at the time, felt that we were being "against change", can see that we are far from that! This extension is going to be amazing! ... We'd also like to thank Waikerie Delivers for their submission to council for the new footpath from the ferry. Give yourselves a pat on the back for such a great idea

12.01.2022 LWDC are planning on removing the Athel Pines next to the Lions Den on MONDAY!! Sorry peeps, you won't be getting any shade this summer! WDRRA only found out about this yesterday, after only 6 months ago being told by LWDC CEO, David Beaton, that there were no plans to remove them as there was not going to be any major changes made to this end of the riverfront. So, why do they think they can do it now? Is it to make way for more parking? Major changes, need Community Consul...tation - let's hope that the 4 Waikerie based Councillors, will contact Council and put a stop to this today!! The challenge to Cr Matthews, Cr Walker, Cr Webber and Cr Kleeman is now on! Those trees were planted in 1969 to protect the Old Distillery building from foundation damage. They have not caused any problems other than filling the gutter, which Council haven't cleaned out in the 5 years I've lived here. They haven't produced sucklings, like other Athel Pines in the area that Council is doing nothing about. They've only done good by protecting a historical building & providing much, needed shade. They may not be the prettiest of trees but at 51 years of age, how many of us can say that we are still pretty and to lose them and what they provide, for car parks, is a totally disgusting, wasteful act of Ratepayers money - ONCE AGAIN. Thank you to all of the people that contacted us last night with your heartfelt pleas for us to stop this. I feel quite positive that they can be saved as I know our councillors will act knowing that their supporters (I'm sure they haven't forgotten WDRRA's support during elections either) want these trees to STAY!

09.01.2022 There has been a rumour circulated that the Waikerie Works Depot is closing. We would like to let people know that this IS A FALSE RUMOUR! Both the CEO David Beaton & Director Gordon Thomson have categorically denied this has even been talked about. There has been a rumour circulated that the Waikerie Works Depot is closing. 09.01.2022 WDRRA has sent a letter to the CEO Mr Beaton, Mayor Stasinowsky and councillors pertaining to the removal of the Athel Pine trees in front of the Lions Den. The letter discusses : Lack of notice (one working day )... Lack of Community Consultation Plan on timing of removal of trees ( two months out from summer) Replacement with mature trees Removal of the other 40 Athel pines in the vicinity of football club, caravan park & water play park We are hoping that reason will prevail, to wait until after summer, before they are removed and quickly replaced with an environmentally kinder, large canopied type of tree. We have also offered to help LWDC get over their embarrassment of putting false information onto a public forum, by suggesting they have details of the new trees & planting dates available at consultation too.

08.01.2022 It was an interesting meeting tonight. Our guests, Judy Sparrow spoke about her last 12 years of fighting for a heated swimming pool in Waikerie and the reasons for it. This is an ageing community because it's been promoted as one, her reason behind a heated pool over a hydrotherapy pool made complete sense and it's what our community wants and needs! Sonia Fowler gave an excellent Chamber of Commerce presentation. The group has grown and it shows just how lively the business... world is, in our area. They have so much going on, head on over to their FB page! WDRRA looks to have had a slight win with rates that were 6 weeks overdue & sent to a debt collector - and then the ratepayer was charged the $40 extra in their next lot of rates. Not very legal & we've fought for those affected. Expect refunds. We listed off everything that we've taken to Council from your original post it notes. From that, we've seen the Institute finally having money spent on it, highway signs (although questionable) erected and a few more things progress. Our big problem seems to be the lack of proper Community Consultation. It's just not happening the way it should be done according to various government associations - LGA & DPTI to name two. We expect change!! There were 3 motions made that we will follow through with. There are also areas that have had money budgeted to over the last 3-4 years that haven't been started. We get into trouble when rates aren't paid on time, this council needs to start following through on the jobs that our town requires!!! We don't want a $20 million sports centre. We want decent signage on the highway, decent turn offs from the highway & great entrances into the town. Unfortunately, the missing footpaths & the discrepancies between Waikerie & Loxtons BBQ shelters couldn't be spoken about until our meeting with Director Greg Perry BUT watch this space.... he's walked into a minefield and I'm not sure how he will be able to explain it. LWDC understand that there are many towns in your area before you get to the last AND WE AREN'T HAPPY!!!! We are here for you, the Ratepayers and Residents in our district. If you have any problems, join up and email us at [email protected]

05.01.2022 Interesting info! has just been brought to WDRRA's attention, that LWDC is charging Sporting & Service Clubs, that lease their properties, GST on electricity accounts - accounts they don't pay GST on.

03.01.2022 Now that it has been proven that the trees don't have to be removed, I wonder whether our CEO will stand by his written word and open their removal up for public consultation.

02.01.2022 Had to go upriver today to Loxton. Nobody would think there was a drought happening there! So very green!! Maybe, the watering gods could turn on a few sprinklers & drippers here? Maybe even some fertiliser to those trees in the CBD?Had to go upriver today to Loxton. Nobody would think there was a drought happening there! So very green!! 02.01.2022 I just watched a Netflix movie called "The Public". I'll admit, it took me a little bit to get into it, but half way through I understood what it meant. WDRRA hasn't been quiet over the last 5 months. We've met with a multitude of high ranking people in government. We've been doing a lot to make those people see how much decisions made by employed people in council affect us. There are some pretty good signs that they understand how our town has been let down. Come June, I ho...pe that Australia has got Covid-19 beaten. I know that the new Chairperson of WDRRA will be great. I, personally have been worn down with fighting for things that should have easily (& rightfully) been done in our town and surrounding towns. Don't ever believe that WDRRA has given up!! We are here until things are made right - right throughout the LWDC district! I smile as I write this. I needed that movie to show me that it only takes one person, with a few supporters, to get the right things happening. WDRRA is more than that AND with your belief, our Waikerie Councillors WILL BE listened to. If not, those higher up than our local council will take care of us. Thanks to some that are employed by us in council, they tied the knots that we couldn't. Let's see what goes down at our next council meeting and then those afterwards. This town (and settlements around it) pay rates & we expect rates from this area to work for us. We shouldn't be hoping for government grants to help!
