24.01.2022 An article by Adam Scott I know we all get a bit negative about the state of The Game They Play in Heaven sometimes. I know I bang on a lot about Junior Participation. But if we have a look at participation numbers there is a lot to be positive about. Also if we compare our participation numbers with NZ we can see its not so much an involvement issue, its just that we need to do better with our current resources.... We also compare ourselves to League a lot, but honestly, its played in NSW, QLD and the North of England... we shouldnt be considering it such a threat, it hasnt even managed to fully take hold in VIC yet, whereas Rugby has a strong foothold in WA and is close to par in VIC, its getting close to becoming a National Sport. Seriously, Football, Rugby and Basketball are the only true major global team ball sports. Rugby will eventually become a powerhouse, its happening, we just need to get stuck in and support the game, talk it up to your League or Aussie Rules mates. Lets remember, the game of Rugby only turned pro in 1995, the Brisbane Broncos started in 1987 and the Sydney Swans started in 1982, Liverpool FC started in 1892... These are big headstarts that Rugby is slowly peeling back, lets keep positive as it will take time for the kinks to all get ironed out. Registered Players by Country: (numbers change depending where you get them from) 1) France 542,242 2) South Africa 405,438 3) England 383,154 4) Australia 230,753 5) New Zealand 150,727 6) USA 119,682 7) Japan 105,693 Argentina 105,151 9) Ireland 101,922 10) Italy 87,211 11) Wales 83,120 12) Fiji 65,980 13) Malaysia 50,103 14) Scotland 49,305 15) Sri Lanka 47,071

18.01.2022 Less than 90 sleeps to the Shute Shield / Brizzy First Grade and Suburban Park Footy How important is Fitness? What are some of your BEST sessions to build fitness for your SQUADS?... Heres one: OUT AND BACKS X 6. Should 1 to 15 be doing this ? Or just chicken legged referees who should not be seen, nor heard but ref the perfect game like me? This involves running from a start point for 2 minutes hard/rest 1 minute/and then run back to the start point aiming to get back under 2 minutes. Repeat this 6 times with 1 minute between each set. Again its up to you to use imagination. Imagine a beach or beautiful bush trail in parklands or mountains. Something for everyone and every club. Now thats something to think about! Or for those suffering the scarcity of time just get down to the local track and run Clockwise for 2 minutes and then Anti Clockwise with a couple of Fluro Cones to set some targets. Get movin footys coming

13.01.2022 Wakehurst Meldrum cup side went down to Manly 20 nil in the semi final, the score does not reflect the game with wakehurst dominating the first half and being in Manlys 25 for 70% of the half but just could not bust the Manly defence, the second half was about 50-50, the bounce of the ball just did not go our way, next year will be our grand final season, Manly went through the season undefeated, Wakehurst subbies had a very good season in this difficult Covid year but we snu...ck through with no cases of Covid in any of the subbies clubs , thanks for all the support, special thanks to Tom Jacobson for bringing all his mates to play and also to Anto and Josh Chignell for recruiting a lot of ex juniors to join the subbies, with so many players this year we are hoping to have two subbies teams and a colts next year THANKS EVERYONE WHO HELPED OUT TO MAKE THE SEASON A SUCCESS See more

12.01.2022 A message of thanks and support to the Rugby Community from Raelene Castle 02 Apr by Raelene Castle ... Important COVID-19 Rugby Update from Rugby Australia Chief Executive, Raelene Castle. Dear Rugby Community, Im writing to you all to provide an update as to the current state of affairs as we manage the ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 global health crisis.. As we know, this is a constantly evolving and unprecedented situation that is impacting our entire community and Rugby is certainly no exception. We have already had to suspend the Vodafone Super Rugby season, the Buildcorp Super W season, community Rugby and shelve plans for a new five team domestic competition until at least May 1 as we continue to follow the advice of government medical experts. Like all sports, Rugby has been hit hard by the shutdown and this has forced Rugby Australia and our State and Territory Member Unions to make some extremely difficult decisions to protect the long-term viability of our game. Put simply, we must reduce costs, because once we get through this, and we will, we need Rugby to be ready to return and bring us all back together on the field and in the stands. That is why Rugby Australia made the toughest decision in the games history which will see at least 75% of its workforce stood down from April 1 through June 30, while remaining staff have been offered significant salary reductions or reduced hours. We thank Prime Minister Scott Morrison for his announcement of the JobKeeper package and this announcement has certainly allowed these positions to be kept open so that we will have a workforce ready to support the Rugby community when we get the green light from Government to return to normal operations. I, along with the staff still working, are committed to supporting you all during these challenging times and we are 100% focused on delivering a plan for the games survival. We will continue to look at all measures currently in place and will re-assess these on a monthly basis as the situation evolves. Rugby Australia and our State and Territory Member Unions have continued to work with State and Territory Governments, and World Rugby, to unlock any further support that may be available for the game. In terms of the players, we are in ongoing discussions with the Rugby Union Players Association (RUPA) as we work towards an agreement which is appropriate and responsible given this extraordinary situation. I want to thank the entire Rugby community for your understanding and support during this difficult time. Aside from being there to support each other, it is vital that we all pull together. That is the power of the Rugby community. Real rugby people looking after each other and chipping in where they can during the tough times. Rugby will survive, as the game has in this country for more than 100 years. Please look after your loved ones and I promise to keep you updated as things progress. Take care, Raelene

04.01.2022 Rugby Australia is holding an online referee webinar, 7.30pm next Tue, 28 Apr. It is free, but youll need to register at RAs Learning Centre. This is effectively the referee component of the Foundation Course which would normally cost $95 and take 8 hrs of face to face course time.... Here it is for free, from the comfort of your own home, in a 2hr webinar followed (or preceded) by approx. 3hrs of self-paced online learning. The online learning is fully recognised, so once restrictions are lifted and field testing is available you will be an accredited Level 1 Referee. Subbies clubs will be required to provide referees from 2021 onwards so this is a great opportunity to get a head-start quickly and for free.
