15.01.2022 If you're busy packing (or planning) for your long weekend away or if you’re taking a #wanderoutyonder this school holidays, remember to factor in a break from driving along the way. Wherever you are heading, plan to stop at least every two hours. Driver Reviver operations are being run this weekend by the Shires of Plantagenet and Katanning Driver Reviver groups. Full details and timings available at https://roadwise.asn.au/driver-reviver.aspx. ... If you're heading south, stop for a stretch, some refreshments and a chat with the amazing volunteers. Coffee Stop locations operate all year round, so look out for the signage and stop for a free coffee for the driver whilst you take a break from driving. Visit http://roadwise.asn.au/driver-reviver.aspx or http://roadwise.asn.au/coffee-stop.aspx to find out more.
15.01.2022 Don’t Trust Your Tired Self Hop to it! If you’re heading north or south on Forrest Highway this long weekend (or during the school holidays), stop and take a break at one of three Miami Bakehouse locations along the way. Miami Bakehouse locations at Myalup, Northbound and Southbound will be offering a FREE coffee or tea for the driver, along with a reusable travel cup and a driver fatigue information flyer. In return, drivers are asked to consider completing the ‘Don’t Tru...st Your Tired Self’ online survey which aims to raise awareness, test knowledge and share attitudes around driver fatigue. Visit https://surveymonkey.com/r/swdriverfatigue to complete the survey. Participants who complete both the pre and post survey can go into the draw to win one of two $100 vouchers from the Bunbury Farmers Market, to be drawn just before Christmas. There are also several runner up prizes of coffee vouchers from participating cafes in the South West region, including from Miami Bakehouse. This driver fatigue project is funded by a project grant from the Road Safety Commission via the Government of Western Australia Community Road Safety Grants Program and supported by Local Government RoadWise Committees and groups in the South West region. Fatigue Fact: A driver who has been awake for 17-19 hours had the same driving ability as an individual with a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.05. While stopping every two hours for a break, swapping drivers and taking a 20 minute power nap are all good tips to avoid driver fatigue, the only way to prevent fatigue is to get enough sleep. Visit https://rsc.wa.gov.au/Your-Safety/Behaviours/Fatigue#risk for more driver fatigue information.

12.01.2022 This Friday is Walk Safely to School Day. Regular exercise like walking not only helps beat chronic problems like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes. It also provides a great opportunity to teach children safe ways to behave around roads and traffic. Walking to school can also reduce congestion and traffic around schools. Not everyone can walk to school, so if time or distance is an issue, why not consider parking a few blocks away fro...m your school and walking the rest of the way? Walk plenty in 2020.
