25.01.2022 Keeping the wheels turning during C-19 means doing things differently! Michael is about to join the UK & Europe Marketplace in a virtual booth! The hotel’s office looks like it could be in Jeff’s Shed

21.01.2022 Some positive news! AusNet has done an assessment of the damage to the electricity system in town and it’s not as bad as we thought, so we hope to be back open sooner than we thought...but it’s still a few days away.

20.01.2022 Last night Russell looked after dinner, tonight I get the gig. After 255 days I still remember what to do and how to carry four plates! Go me.

20.01.2022 The Star Hotel has come through unscathed, however the same cannot be said for bridge #1 on the railway. If you are able, a donation towards the cost of repairing this damage would be greatly appreciated.

20.01.2022 The sun is shining and we’re warming up the place ready to reopen on Saturday! We have bookings available via our website www.starhotel.com.au

20.01.2022 Our latest piece of art is now in place at the hotel. This work, by Charles Salis Lloyd, was painting around 1949. CSL passed away in 1954 and has a number of works in the City of Melbourne collection of the city’s 1940s streetscapes and buildings. Well done to an eagle eyed John Gow-Hills who spotted the painting in a Leonard Joel online auction. It’s nice to have it returned to its place of inspiration.

19.01.2022 Russ has been busy! Fresh from our garden this is a beautiful combination of pink Roses and Cotinus.

19.01.2022 Snow days are fun days!

17.01.2022 And we’re back! Our new housekeeper Emma has done a wonderful job in getting the hotel out of hibernation and both Russ and I are ready to rock...but be kind as we are a little rusty!

16.01.2022 Michael is running for council again. A lot has been achieved in the past 4 years but there’s more to do. If you live in the East Ward of the Baw Baw Shire please vote 1 for Michael Leaney...please share if you can too.

16.01.2022 Lovely to have our first guests back post the end of the COVID lockdown #4 and the flood situation in town. Tilly was so excited to have new people to give her pats she didn’t want Erin and Anthony to leave.

13.01.2022 Nice weather for...

12.01.2022 Things are in full swing for our reopening tomorrow. In the midst of all the cleaning, a new piece of art that we purchased online from the Australian Paper Tyers Art Festival - Online Exhibition 2020 was delivered by local artist Ellie who lives at Mt Baw Baw. It’s a wonderful linocut of snowgums on the plateau. We sponsor the Tyers Art Festival annually and try to purchase some art to support our local artists. This years’ tight budget meant we could only afford one, but we think we made a very good choice.

11.01.2022 Work is underway to get everything restarted for our reopening on 1 December. The coolroom is getting the once over after 7 months of laying idle...let’s hope it starts and works again after its hibernation! It’s always a risk with equipment switched off for so long...fingers crossed!

10.01.2022 After eight months of sitting in the carpark, Howdy got her first work drive picking up supplies for our opening next week...and a wash was in order too for being so patient.

08.01.2022 Tilly is putting if on with a trowel...she’s loving having guests back.

08.01.2022 With the new restrictions and C-19 limits, we have decided to extend our closure and hibernation until 1 December. Hopefully by this time we will be a position to open with some form of new normal that is workable and acceptable to guests. At the moment I really fear that what makes a stay great at the Star just isn't an option. Thanks for your understanding.

08.01.2022 Love winter. The atmosphere is fabulous.

05.01.2022 A lovely write up in the Latrobe Valley Express about the hotel’s long term support of the Traralgon Harriers and the creation of the Walhalla Wound-Up. The event didn’t happen this year due to C-19 restrictions, however we will again be keen supporters when it returns in 2021.

02.01.2022 Unfortunately a bit of carnage on the hill behind the hotel last night. Looks like two advanced Canadian Maples have been destroyed by the falling eucalypts.

02.01.2022 Good morning from Walhalla. Interesting times ahead. Some people expressed surprise a few weeks back when we announced that we were going to hibernate until October...it would appear to be a wise decision. We certainly hope that this new lockdown is a wake up call to everyone. We have been watching visitors to Walhalla over recent weeks....what pandemic? We have witnessed zero adherence to social distancing and cleanliness seems to have been forgotten about. It’s like these things didn’t apply while on holiday. We hope people take this seriously so we CAN open in October otherwise we will need to push that back.

01.01.2022 The first time in a long time we’ve seen our lovely restaurant looking like this, with freshly cut Birds of Paradise from Russ’s parents garden and the heavenly smell of chefs cooking A lovely evening was enjoyed by all and just enough light at the end of service for an evening stroll.

01.01.2022 Yah the road is open again!!! We have rooms available for this weekendtempted to escape?
