25.01.2022 The 1st of April is change the battery in your smoke alarm day. However why not save on batteries and the ladder climb by installing interconnected smoke alarms throughout your home. With interconnected alarms, you will be alerted no matter where you are, or where the fire starts. For more information visit... qld.gov.au/smokealarms
23.01.2022 Make sure you grab a copy of this weeks Mackay and Whitsunday Life ... we hear there's a few good looking sorts on the front page!
21.01.2022 A few more businesses jumped on board! Big thanks, without local support big and small it wouldn't be possible to keep the tradition going!
19.01.2022 The road can be a very dangerous place. Every time you get behind the wheel, there’s an element of risk; to you, your passengers and other motorists. Sadly, the...re’s been 29 occasions already this year when our region’s rescue helicopter #RACQ #CQRescue has been required to assist someone with serious injuries as a result of motor vehicle accidents. That’s almost one person injured, sometimes seriously or even fatally, every week. If this rate continues, 2020 will become a record year for motor vehicle accidents in this region. That’s staggering and incredibly concerning also given there’s been a large chunk of the year where we actually were driving less due to Covid-19 social restrictions! Monday, August 24 until Friday, August 28 is Queensland’s Road Safety Week. The aim of is to raise awareness for all road users of the Fatal Five including speeding, drink/drug driving, seat belt use, fatigue and inattention and distraction. PLEASE. Kill the risk factors on the road, not yourself or others. Put road safety first because our rescue helicopter crew REALLY don’t want to meet you by accident. See more
19.01.2022 Hi everyone. We would like to update you all on some movements at Walkerston Fire Station. After 7 years at the helm Captain Darryl Dhu has decided to take a step back from the managerial duties to concentrate on his personal business ventures. He will remain a member of the Walkerston station in an operational firefighter role. Lieutenant Joel McLeay has been promoted into the Captain's role. Joel has many years experience as a firefighter and scientific officer with the QF...ES and will be well suited to the role. Firefighter Robert Horton has joined Lieutenants Ross Stiller and Matt Kurtz in the just as important deputy roles. The experience of these lieutenants is a vital element in the successful operation of our station. We would like to wish all parties the best with their new endeavors And one last note: With the cane season fast approaching, please be aware that Darryl will no longer be issuing fire permits as part of his role. If you require a fire permit please email your application to [email protected] and it will be processed. Thankyou from the Walkerston team.

14.01.2022 Thoughts are with our Southern colleagues. It's going to be a big long year if we don't get any rain soon. Please be vigilant when working outdoors and report anything that you believe doesn't seem right. The earlier we can respond, the better chance we have to control it

07.01.2022 With the Bureau of Meteorology issuing a warning of low to severe heatwave conditions across the Mackay District over the next few days, it is perfect opportuni...ty to remind us all to ‘stay healthy in the heat’. Tips on keeping cool to avoid dehydration and other heat-related conditions: Have a plan to stay cool Drink water and eat small meals often Stay out of the sun, use fans and aircon, avoid confined spaces (cars, etc) Look after elderly, unwell, pregnant and children.
