24.01.2022 WALKING CANE are back at THE BUTCHER BREW BAR on Saturday the 3rd of October between 3.00-6.00pm see you there.

23.01.2022 The Allman Brothers band were one of the great American rock groups they played a mixture of Southern rock, blues and progressive rock, their concerts featured long songs with lots of jamming, guitar solos and improvisation. The band was formed originally by the two Allman brothers Duane and Greg and has featured over the years some of the cream of the crop as far as musicians go. The Allman Brothers Band have generally been considered one of the pioneering bands in Southern r...ock, although the group distanced itself from the term. Guitarist Dickey Betts was most vocal about this classification, which he considered unfair: "I think it's limiting. I'd rather just be known as a progressive rock band from the South. I'm damned proud of who I am and where I'm from, but I hate the term 'Southern rock.' I think calling us that pigeonholed us and forced people to expect certain types of music from us that I don't think are fair. Gregg Allman also saw the "Southern rock" tag as redundant, saying it was like saying "rock rock". The band was certainly at the forefront of the genre's popularity in the early 1970s; the breakthrough of At Fillmore East led their hometown of Macon to become flooded with "Southern rock" groups. Despite this, the group has continued to remove itself from the term. "The problem I have is a lot of people associate it with rednecks and rebel flags and backward mentality. That has never been representative of the Allman Brothers Band," said guitarist Warren Haynes. WALKING CANE will be performing "One Way Out" "Southbound" and "Nobody Left to Run With Anymore"at THE BUTCHERS BREW BAR tomorrow Saturday the 3rd of October from 3.00-6.00pm. See more

20.01.2022 Marc Broussard is an American Singer Songwriter born in 1982 in Louisiana, hiss music is best described as Bayou Soul or Southern Soul. The title cut, Home, from his Island Records debut Carencro in 2004, is the song that he says gave him his career. It is a swampy soul song that was released as a single from the album and is a showcase to this amazing young artist, although not really known in Australia he has a very solid following in the US and if you have never heard his music he is one to watch out for. Walking cane will do their version of his classic "Home" at THE BUTCHERS BREW BAR this Saturday afternoon from 3.00-6.00pm, hope to see you there.

19.01.2022 The "Deep Ellum Blues" is an American traditional song. It refers to historical African-American neighborhood in downtown Dallas, Texas, known as Deep Ellum, and a home to music legends "Blind Lemon Jefferson", "Blind Willie Johnson", "Lead Belly", and "Bill Neely". The first known recording was made by the "Cofer Brothers" in 1923 under the band name the "Georgia Crackers". "The Shelton Brothers" recorded various versions of this song, the first being cut in 1933 with "Leon ...Chappelear" under the pseudonym of "Lone Star Cowboys" for Bluebird Records. Other versions of the song were made between 1957 and 1958 by "Jerry Lee Lewis" for Sun Records, "Bobby Jackson" for Gold Air Records, "Mary McCoy & the Cyclones" for Jin Records and, later, by "Jerry Garcia", the Grateful Dead, "Levon Helm", the "Infamous Stringdusters", and "Rory Gallagher". A recent acoustic version of the song by "Blackberry Smoke" is really worth a listen. 04.01.2022 NEW SPEEDWAY BOOGIE is a song by THE GRATEFUL DEAD which references the tragedy that occurred at the Altamont Concert in 1969 when a Hells Angel security guard killed Meredith Hunter. The song was written by Robert Hunter and Jerry Garcia not only about the tragedy but also the media response to it which called this the end of the counterculture movement. Lines in New Speedway Boogie, like Please don’t dominate the rap, jack, if you’ve got nothing new to say and Who can ...deny it’s not just a change in style? speak to this mindset, encouraging those who thought differently not to be discouraged during the time of crisis, where in other parts of the song the death of Meredith Hunter is referenced "In the heat of the sun, a man died of cold". This is one of the more intriguing songs by the Dead and Walking Cane will be doing their version of it this Saturday at THE BUTCHERS BREW BAR, hope to see you there. See more
