25.01.2022 WBG Makes a Quantum Leap Forward in Depth Control Depth Control is a methodology used by WBG to ensure that the data we deliver to clients is correctly orientated (for depth) in the bore hole... It is important to WBG that our wireline logs are regarded by our clients as a valid and valuable reference for the confirmation of their chip or core logs before uploading bore data to Geographic Information System (GIS). Good depth control practice by a wireline logging company can ...Continue reading

24.01.2022 WBG Team Completes Challenging DMITRE Calibration The Government of South Australia's Department for Manufacturing, Innovation, Trade, Resources and Energy (DMITRE) maintains a drill hole logging calibration facility known as "Adelaide Calibration Models" There are in all about fourteen models for a variety of purposes including Natural Gamma API calibration, Density calibration and equivalent U3O8 calibration. They have been carefully designed and constructed so as to be a r...ealistic and accurate representation of drill hole conditions at a given drill hole diameter. The models are water saturated by a constantly maintained water level. The diagrams show a cross-sectional view of the cylindrically constructed models. The calibration models for borehole logging probes at the Adelaide site offer a comprehensive range of primary calibration standards. BQ - 61mm ID, NQ - 77mm ID, HQ - 97mm ID,PQ - 122mm ID. While the technical aspects of calibration are understandably of little interest to most people, the tool physics and adjustments used in borehole logging are essential to ensure that the data that WBG's clients pay for is of the utmost quality science can deliver and more importantly, be representative of the true value of the minerals deposits sought after by mining, exploration and energy companies. For this reason, WBG has just completed its annual pilgrimage to the Model Calibration Facility in Adelaide. The purpose of the visit was for WBG to rigorously challenge its tool physics assumptions in a laboratory environment and to update and validate the values for its field calibration jigs so that when they are used by our Engineers in the field our clients can be assured that the values obtained from our down hole probes are accurate and repeatable. We are very pleased to say that the calibration week was a complete success and that we look forward to getting our newly calibrated tools out in the field!

17.01.2022 The WBG Sprinter rides as well on rough surfaces as most 4WD wagons and better than 4WD utes WBG has chosen the Mercedes Benz 316 CDi 4x4 as its standard mobile logging unit based on its excellent credentials as a commercial van and a safe 4 wheel-drive offroader. The article below from Allen Whiting of Outback Travel Australia explains why the Sprinter 4x4 is such an excellent off-road workhorse for WBG. "We suspect that Mercedes-Benz Australia hasnt yet realised the potent...Continue reading

11.01.2022 WBG's Water Well and Inspection Cameras Help to Save the Environment Both the slimline Aries Dual View Water Well Camera (left) and the GeoVista large bore Dual Camera probe (below) offer the convenience of both downhole and sidewall viewing facility by switching between two individual cameras, one directed axially and the other directed radially with 360 infinite rotation. In addition, these probes can be fitted with a compass for image orientation. The side view objecti...ve is fitted with an array of white, high luminosity LED lights. Downhole lighting is supplied with either a frontal light head or a ring light for larger diameter boreholes and cavities. To understand the environment in which Coal Seam Gas and Coal mining operates, our clients need to have water management strategies and sophisticated water well monitoring systems in place to monitor the aquifers both above and below local coal seams being mined. Surveying water monitoring bores for our clients is one example of a service WBG can provide to keep valuable water monitoring systems viable. Gathering data on the integrity of the bores and documenting any contaminants or marine growths affecting the function of the well helps our clients make decisions on how to meet their compliance and environmental management goals. Well construction, lithology and fractures, water level, cascading water from above the water level, and changes in borehole water quality (chemical precipitates, suspended particles, and gas) can be viewed directly with the cameras. Other Applications * water monitoring bore surveys * bore wall examination * large cavity inspections (e.g. old mine workings) * casing weld inspections * geotechnical surveys * casing damage or wear inspections * infiltration diagnostics * screen integrity inspection * gravel pack inspection * perforation blockage inspection * locating lost equipment during fishing operations

09.01.2022 WBG commissions its first solar-powered logging unit Walton Bore Geophysics recently completed field trials of its new solar-powered logging unit - WBG02 designed and built for WBG by Barry Cullen Consulting in Brisbane. WBG02 is driven to site by the Wireline Engineer and then the engine is isolated on the drill pad. All power used while logging the bore is derived from the sun using the unit's three solar panels and state of the art batteries and electronics suite. ... Field trials of the unit demonstrate that the WBG02 can operate all day by charging from the sun and then all night in the dark on batteries without once starting its engine! WBG02 is ideal for Coal Seam Gas work where for ignition control, the running of combustion engines needs to be kept to a minimum. This is why WBG will soon convert all of its logging units to this state of the art technology. WBG02 is the latest in environmentally friendly logging units, it has been fitted with solar panels which charge a bank of batteries to give the logging unit a run time of at least 12 hours. It is also fitted with an integrated battery charger with enough capacity to ensure both clean power if attached to an external 240 Volt supply and a reasonably fast time for battery recharge if required. The power consumption, charge or discharge current and voltage of the batteries, is continually monitored so as the condition of charge of the batteries is known. All components within the logging unit are designed to minimize power usage. This is just one example of WBG's commitment to making its contribution to cleaner and greener use of precious natural resources as well a minimising our carbon footprint and overall impact on the local environment and productivity of the land.

09.01.2022 New design highly-capable wireline logging unit for WBG! WBG04 represent the first of many new design units that capture lessons learned from over 25 years of experience in the field. This unit is capable of logging up to 30 blast holes per day as well as carrying out all logging tasks required to support exploration and with minimum manual handling and maximum comfort for the Wireline Engineer. This unit is available for short-term booking or longer contract but you will need to be quick! Contact us for further details.

09.01.2022 Have acoustic scanner data that needs processing? WBG's Data Lab now produces Structure Logs for its customers. Please contact our sales team for further information.

07.01.2022 We are stoked today because Walton Bore Geophysics Pty Ltd has been recognised internationally by Mercedes Benz MYVAN Magazine for its innovative use of solar power and other advanced technologies in the Mercedes Sprinter 4x4 van! Many thanks to Barry Cullen Consulting for coming up with the designs and doing technology builds to both WBG01 and WBG02. It has been a brilliant result for WBG and a major productivity advance for our customers. 06.01.2022 New Gyroscopic Radiation Source Container! A new Gyroscopic Radiation Source Container that is attached externally for the purpose of Blast hole logging has been commissioned into WBG. The Source pot is attached to a telescopic extendable arm that is located underneath the Wireline unit and is held by a half spherical joint and prevents the Density tool from coming out all together regardless of how hard you accelerate or even how rough the pit floor may be. By being able to move from blast hole to blast quickly overall efficiency is enhanced considerably.

02.01.2022 WBG welcomes our recently formed partnership with Weltek Geoscience to be able to provide geophysical paper log scanning and data retrieval service to the exploration and mining industry. Weltek is the only provider of this service in Australia and is more efficient and cost effective than overseas options. Contact us for details on how to get a quote.
