25.01.2022 Unlike lots of tours we start in Milan and travel our way across Italy and down the boot. Milan is much more than fashion as you will see if you visit. The Duomo is quite spectacular and has over 3,000 gargoyles and statues including a smaller statue of liberty over the front entrance. However, it IS fashion as well.

24.01.2022 Just before the virus hit we had decided to extend our France tour to include Normandy. Here are some reasons why. http://ow.ly/750050AUpvK

24.01.2022 Holidaying in Paris doesnt mean you cant see some of the fabulous places around France. These are beautiful castles to visit you cna do on a day trip. http://ow.ly/tUsj50AUpJM

23.01.2022 For the next two weeks were going international again - even though its from home. Italy started out being my second European country of choice to explore but I have come to love it as much as I love France - sometimes maybe more. So enjoy the next two weeks browsing some of my favourite places in Italy, most of them on the beaten track but that doesnt mean we cant find some hidden gems.

22.01.2022 We travel by train a lot in Italy which is great because the trains are comfortable, fast and relaxing as well as a good way to see the country without effort. So we train it for lots of intercity stops including Venice to Florence. Our Florentine Art History Professor will make the Uffizi Gallery come alive for you and knows it well enough to share great stories as well.

21.01.2022 Even though we cant visit we can enjoy someone elses travels. These were taken on a September trip to the Rockies, just a light dusting of snow. Cheryl Smith Prior is the photographer.

20.01.2022 For the next two weeks Tasmania will be our focus. I can hear some of you saying, how can you find enough information about a small island to keep up that amount of posts? Theres heaps to share about Tasmania. Our next tour (we hope) is in February 2021(summer) but in the meantime, enjoy!

19.01.2022 We cant go there yet but heres some tips for when we can. http://ow.ly/QQo650AUpsq

19.01.2022 Amazing colours, Westmoreland Falls is in Tasmania.

18.01.2022 Tasmania is one of the few places to have a female convicts research centre. It was a penal colony for the British (like much of Australia) and fortunately it has retained many of the early records so that we are able to gain an understanding of what life was like at that time. Between 1803-1853 approx. 12,500 women were transported by the British government as convicts to Tasmania (then Van Diemans Land), mostly for petty crimes. Port Arthur enables us to see what their lives were like once they arrived. The female factory is another place that gives us that glimpse of another life.

18.01.2022 Staying around one of the lakes in northern Italy is a perfectly splendid thing to do. We chose Lago di Garda as it is the largest but really it is the spectacular drive and the stunning scenery and this is one of the walks near where we stay.

18.01.2022 Heres a way to travel...if you must.

16.01.2022 The wild west coast is often missed when people visit the state and that is their loss. We cant wait to show people all of its attractions. The travel across gives us an opportunity to enjoy one of the best places to stay in Tasmania but then getting to Strahan we experience the West Coast Wilderness Railway, a unique rail journey through wilderness forests that is stunning, a trip on a Catamaran up one of the most famous rivers in Australia and explore the lovely town situated on Australias second largest natural harbour, which is six times the size of Sydney Harbour.

15.01.2022 Beautiful walk in the rainforest NSW south coast

15.01.2022 The east coast is a constant surprise (actually thats true of lots of Tasmania) but some of the east coast has been voted previously as the Hottest Destination in the world to visit by Lonely Planet. Not a bad effort considering where they get to. That place is the Bay of Fires on the northeastern tip of the state. It has huge boulders covered with an orange/red lichen, beautiful white sandy beaches and water the colour more often associated with Queensland or the Caribbean than an island state with a close connection to the Antarctic (it is actually closer to the equator than the Antarctic).

15.01.2022 Staying in Paris - you need somewhere to enjoy the city. http://ow.ly/65OX50AUpuk

14.01.2022 Although Tasmania is an island (off an island) it also has its own island places around that have their own communities and we visit two of them, Bruny and King Island. Go into any supermarket or fine food market and you will find some of Australias best cheeses, wines, gin, craft beer as well as seafood and guaranteed some of it will be from one or other of the islands around Tasmania. So of course, we are visiting! And sampling and exploring and learning why their produce is so good. I lived in the Huon Valley for 5 years and the orchards are just one of the reasons to return regularly.

13.01.2022 Aah, Venice- so much to see and do you could spend a lifetime here. We stay in a boutique hotel on the Grand Canal and that means easy access to lots that Venice has to offer and easy to get around. Youll see the islands of Murano and Burano but not on a boat with lots of others who rush to see as much as possible- we have our own special surprises in both places. We stop for treats here- the oldest cafe in the world- and the most fabulous cakes.

12.01.2022 Jacqui Anderson is only one of several successful vinters in Tasmania. Her work has led her through a number of vineyards to Derwent Estate. Likewise Granvewe cheesemakers, Nicole Gilliver and Dianne Rae have been recognised for their efforts in cheesemaking and are just one example of some of the best cheeses you are likely to sample in Australia.

09.01.2022 Share in the life of this woman who has transplanted herself to a French life http://ow.ly/eKj050AUpHc

09.01.2022 Florence Perrin was born in Launceston in 1884. She was the first woman to climb many of the peaks in the Cradle Mt/Lake St Clair area. She was almost certainly the first woman to snow ski in northern Tasmania and she collected all of the 90+ orchids native to Tasmania. She was a recognised botanist and found pleasure and satisfaction in being an outdoors person well before her time. She was part of the small group of climbing enthusiasts who lobbied to have Cradle Mt/Lake St Clair declared a Sanctuary. Reserve, along the lines of Yosemite in the US and they were thankfully, successful. It is now part of the World heritage area in Tasmania.

09.01.2022 Clouds over Hobart Tasmania yesterday. Pretty amazing.

08.01.2022 Tasmania has one of the most amazing museums/art galleries in the world - big claim, but its a shared view! MONA (Museum of Old and New Art) is situated overlooking the Derwent River on the oldest vineyard in the state with the newest winery. It has some of the most unique, controversial works of art you are likely to see in one gallery, serves fabulous food and yes, of course it is one of our tour visits.

07.01.2022 I love Colin Hay and some of the fabulous music he has made is part of my own history. Ive posted this because I love it but also because Choir - Epic nights has done this with quite a few great musicians, have a look and enjoy.

05.01.2022 Hobart this fine morning. Gotta love Tassie when it puts on a show (happens most of the time)

04.01.2022 Tasmania is 45% National Park, it has 10 parks that make up the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area and it has five convict sites that are also world heritage listed. The wilderness areas make stunning natural environments a backdrop to every part of the island and the built environment has both fascinating historical places to explore along with modern technology. It is the departure site for Antarctic explorations and it has some of the best beaches in Australia with the least amount of people.

03.01.2022 In December 1828 the first women convicts were moved into the Cascades Female Factory ( previously an unsuccessful distillery) by the government. Discussion about how to rehabilitate the inmates was a topic for discussion. It is described in historical documents as "how to best foster proper feminine behaviour in the women who, according to Reverend Henry Phipps Fry, were utterly insubordinate and led the most flagitious lives." For those who want to know flagitious means criminal/villainous which is pretty accurate when you think about it!

03.01.2022 A rare sight this close to shore- a Southern Right whale plays with her calf and reminds the gathered surfers not to get too close. Beautiful

01.01.2022 Our last international tour was to Italy in June last year so I have some fond memories of those wanderings. Here I am with one of our Wandering Women in Cinque Terre learning to make a beautiful pesto while enjoying the splendours of the coast and the mountains together.

01.01.2022 Here are some recommendations for armchair travel that come from people who should know. https://www.cntraveler.com//22-ambassadors-recommend-the-o
