25.01.2022 So today was yet another big day exploring the region. Taking the waterfall trail we explored the craters and numerous "falls" in the area. Some would be spectacular in the wet season but for now just gentle flows...locals can be seen swimming in the water holes.. ummm not for me when I can't see the bottom!! Stopped by the Nevada Tea Farm...interesting to just see where our "cuppa" derives from and enjoy high tea..another great day in the Atherton region..

25.01.2022 We have made new friends this arvo...quite a group of kangaroos have made their home on this caravan park here in Karumba

24.01.2022 After some long kms under the belt we have nested down in Julia Creek free camp area for some rnr and clean up for a few days after travelling on some pretty rough corrocated dusty roads. Have to say we came out pretty good. No dust inside, yeah!! Looks like we have had a few bags of red stuff thrown at us on the outside however. Nothing a good wash down won't fix.

19.01.2022 We have left the coast of Cairns and now on the Atherton Tablelands. Wow, what an awesome spot with Lake Tinaroo right on our doorstep. A long drive today taking in the many scenic areas around the lake, some amazing lakeside campsites for $13 a night. Spent a few hours platypus hunting...and we found them!! So cute but very elusive. Loving this area, so very different to the coastline. There is a lot to see and experience in this region

17.01.2022 Trying out our new fire pit...perfect for a free camp area

17.01.2022 So if yesterday wasn't enough paddling we decided to hit the paddles again down the Lawn Hill Creek that adjuts the camp-site. Another serene journey through thousands of lillypads which we couldn't resist picking. A breather then off to the Riversleigh Fossil area and onwards to a couple of River crossings...lukewarm water for a dip...

16.01.2022 There is just one way to chill and stay cool today. We hooked up our winch to a tree across the river and just hung on !! The water runs fast here. I have already chased a thong and noodle down stream to date...

14.01.2022 Wow, wow, wow. What a awesome time here in Adels Grove. Yes it is warm but a power site helps with air-conditioning to keep us cool. The campsite is deserted albeit 4 other groups and road construction personnel of which there seems to be many. Adels Grove has recently changed hands and management so lots happening in the surroundings with upgrades and refurbishment. Today was huge with an early morning paddle of the Lower and Upper Gorges of Lawn Hill. Words can not describe the feeling of being in this massive Gorge and being the only living sole there. God help us if we ran into problems as no phone coverage. We took 4 hours to gently paddle our way up stream from one level to the next amongst the lilly pads and water falls. Just sensational. A must do if you are ever here in the area.

11.01.2022 We have left the comforts of the lush rainforest area of the Atherton driving onwards now to Karumba. Found a great free camp on the edge of the Gilbert River (West side) tonight, albeit a very dry river bed we have just walked. Nothing but birdsong and secateurs to keep us company tonight. Tomorrow Normanton, Karumba before heading into Lawn Hill NP...

09.01.2022 Heat wave.....what heatwave ???? Yesterday in Julia Creek 41degrees, passing through Winton today 43, we are in Longreach now 44!!!! WHAT !!!! Found a public swimming pool in Julia Creek to cool us down $2 well spent! Straight to a caravan park today, power and air-conditioning...yeah!
