22.01.2022 *sigh* memories.. :Autumn is such a beautiful time of year in Tasmania; watching it from your loungeroom window is not the same as getting out there and experiencing it. One day, Tassie, one day we will be back on the road... #traveltasmania #tamarvalley #launceston #inittogether http://wandertasmania.com.au/tamar-valley-tasmania/

22.01.2022 Thank you #geelongadvertiser ! Great article- domestic tourism seems the likely travel option in future. Lets play it smart, be safe and Tassie will be in a good position to support domestic tourism in future. #traveltasmania #tourism #tassie #geelong #spiritoftasmania #holiday #covid19 #inittogether

18.01.2022 "Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit, and as vital to our lives as water and bread." ~ Edward Abbey Sit back, relax and imagine yours...elf in these stunning places... for once you have been there they will forever be a part of your spirit and always draw you back. What an incredible seascape with The Nut and a rainbow touching down at its base, you couldnt ask for a better viewing point to witness Golden Hour over Cape Hauy on the Tasman Peninsula, the delightful 90 year old Fraser Creek Hut surrounded by lush rainforest in Tasmanias west is something worth seeing, a gorgous wallaby in a winter wonderland at Lake Dobson in the Mt Field National Park will steal your heart and a spectacular capture of the 187 year old Callington Mill, the only working example of its kind in the world, plus our Milky Way shining brightly right above will leave you speechless. There are magnificent views of Lion Rock which roars out of the Southern Ocean at South Cape Bay in the Southwest National Park, very cute pademelons on the Freycinet circuit hike, monents of magic at Binalong Bay in the Bay of FIre, you will feel like youre in the middle of a fantasy movie in the Walls of Jerusalem National Park, check out the larger than life and very friendly local platypus at Maydena in the Derwent Valley and located in the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park you can reach the delightful Nelson Falls which is only a 20 minute return walk. 18.01.2022 Princes Square, Launceston: a great place to wander and relax. The buildings around Princes Square were all built in 1800s and early 1900s They are all well preserved and have been restored to keep their period character. There is an interesting urban myth regarding the fountain: it was supposedly brought to Launceston by mistake. It was made in Europe and was supposed to be delivered to Launceston in England but was sent to Launceston, Tasmania due to a freight error. Be...cause of the high costs to return it, it was cheaper to keep and make it a centre piece in the newly designed square. There is, of course, no evidence to support this but it is a nice story. #launceston #tassie #tasmania #launcestoncity #autumn #nature

17.01.2022 When people say Tasmania is too cold: snow on the mountain and a fireplace at home make winter pretty livable, thats for sure!

15.01.2022 This is definitely on our to do list during winter. One of the most beautiful things about our island is that it is not a one season place when it comes to travel and tourism. Summer, autumn, winter or spring- each season creates a unique experience for so many places around #Tasmania. Waratah in Tassies north west has a magnificent waterfall right near the centre of town. In winter, you get to experience the fresh mountain air and see the waterfall in full stream (dont forget- this area is wombat country, too). What are some of your favourite winter locations? #tassie #winter #traveltasmania #holidaytasmania #waterfall #northeasttasmania

15.01.2022 In case you have run out of ideas where to go....

15.01.2022 An amazing photo of the Tasman Bridge getting hugged first thing in the morning by the Bridgewater Jerry The Bridgewater Jerry is a fog formation that occasi...onally appears over the River Derwent in Hobart, Tasmania and down the Derwent Valley. It is named after the suburb of Bridgewater. One theory of the origin of the name is that word jerry came from London, where it was thieves slang for mist or fog, and the term was transported to Tasmania with the convicts. David James writes in The Companion to Tasmanian History that the first written reference to the fog, although not using the name Jerry and not coming from Bridgewater, was in 1821 when Governor Macquarie wrote he couldnt leave Austins Ferry for Hobart until 12.30 one day, due to the thick fog. During winter, the Bridgewater Jerry occurs once or twice a week. Its that time of year when the mornings are crisp and you just dont want to get out of bed and well... it looks amazing! 12.01.2022 A bright, clear, sunny day in Launceston today so we went for a wander along the Tamar. Rosevears and Deviot are great spots to spend a morning or afternoon- it is a magical place with so many spots to sit and just enjoy views of the river. Very thankful to be out and about this weekend! Does anyone know the gentleman in the boat? He was maybe taking it for a test run launching from the boat club in Deviot? Just interested to know what the year the boat was built. If anyone ...could let me know, it would be appreciated. If you recognise any of the boats, please tag and share. We are keen to talk to any boaties in the area! Enjoy the photos! #tamarriver #tasmania #traveltasmania #tassie #boats #river #boating

08.01.2022 An optimistic outlook for Tassie tourism in future. Some commentators have indicated that tourism could in fact increase over the next 3-5 years as international tourism struggles to get back to the highs of 2018-19. Local tourism fills the gap and, as we all know, there is no place in Oz a beautiful as Tassie! #traveltasmania #tourism #tassie "The key thing here though is that the assets that we have - the fantastic wilderness, the beautiful scenery, the Tasmania that so many of us for a long time took for granted but is now acknowledged around the world as being just such a fantastic location to visit - that will remain," Peter Gutwein

06.01.2022 Isnt Tassie beautiful?

04.01.2022 On This Day 14th December (1982) Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area listed 37 years ago today the World Heritage Committee met at UNESCO headquarte...rs in Paris to consider a number of sites for World Heritage listing, including the Western Tasmanian Wilderness National Parks. The committee agreed to enter this area into the World Heritage list for its significant natural and cultural values. The Sixth Session REPORT of the United Nations World Heritage Committee stated: The Committee is seriously concerned at the likely effect of dam construction in the area on those natural and cultural characteristics which make the property of outstanding universal value. In particular, it considers that flooding of parts of the river valleys would destroy a number of cultural and natural features of great significance. The Committee suggests that the Australian authorities should ask the Committee to place the property on the List of World Heritage in Danger until the question of dam construction is resolved. Today the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area is one of the largest conservation areas in Australia, covering almost 20% of Tasmania or 1.4 million hectares (14,000 square kms). It is also one of the last expanses of temperate wilderness in the world and remains found in limestone caves attest to the human occupation of the area for more than 20,000 years. The following 10 national parks and reserves make up the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area: - Central Plateau Conservation and Protected Areas - Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park - Devils Gullet State Reserve - Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park - Hartz Mountains National Park - Mole Creek Karst National Park - Mt Field National Park - South East Mutton Bird Islet - Southwest National Park - Walls of Jerusalem National Park Its the lure of the wilderness that attracts a certain type of traveller and explorer to Tasmania. The history, and indeed future, of our parks and reserves could had been very different had it not been for the bitterly fought battles waged by environmentalists and conservationists in the 1970s and 1980s. Olegas Truchanas arrived in Tasmania in 1945 and was a founding member of the Tasmanian Conservation Trust in 1968. Olgas dreamed that Tasmania can be a shining beacon in the world. His words from an opening speech on an exhibition of paintings about Lake Pedder in 1972 are arguably even more relevant now: "Tasmania is not the only place in the world where long-term, careful argument has been defeated by short-term economic advantage. We must try to retain as much as possible of what still remains of the unique, rare and beautiful. It is terribly important that we take interest in the future of our remaining wilderness, and in the future of our National Parks. Is there any reason why Tasmania should not be more beautiful on the day we leave it, than on the day we came? If we can revise our attitudes towards the land under our feet; if we can accept a role of steward and depart from the role of conqueror; if we can accept the view that man and nature are inseparable parts of the unified whole-then Tasmania can be a shining beacon in a dull, uniform and largely artificial world."
