18.01.2022 Dear Hedland Community, This morning we had the privilege of sharing with the community the re-opening of a refurbished and re-purposed room within the South Hedland Police Complex. Over the past few weeks we have worked with artists Leah Brackin and her daughter Lilly, FMG, Ashburton Aboriginal Corporation, Dulux, Jupps and H & M Tracey to create the Manga Wakanha Room, meaning Womens Path. ... We now have a respectful space, within the police station, for those wishing to speak with police or who are assisting in investigations of a sensitive nature such as family and domestic violence and sexual assault. The feature mural is named The Journey of Family; The flower in the centre represents growth and the beauty of change. The flowing lines represent how we navigate through life always changing, crossing paths, being challenged, strengthening and moving forward. The figures represent ourselves, our children, family, community, friends & all the people who walk beside us on our journey. Thanks again to everyone who supported this initiative, which is not only a first for Hedland, but it is a first for our state of Western Australia. Also, special thanks to the Hedland Aboriginal Strong Leaders for their support, and to our District Superintendent Kim Massam and Kariyarra elder Diana Brown, for opening the room, and speaking to everyone today. Regards Sergeant Shelley Marklew South Hedland Police Station #illbethereforyou

16.01.2022 Update from Port Hedland Police, Sergeant Steve CLEAL So this talented young fella, Ethan, got himself a job after school saving enough money to buy his dream mountain bike worth $3000 only for it to be stolen on Wednesday evening. Gutting. After Port Hedland Polices equivalent of Zoolander, pictured below, finished volunteering his time teaching youth at Boxfit, he was driving home (off duty) and noticed a VERY young kid riding Ethans bike. He pulled up and had a length...y curb side heart to heart and convinced him of the right thing to do. Education and growth for our young kids can influence lives. Everyone deserves a second chance. The kid handed over the bike, he packed it into his car and drove the kid home to his family. He then dropped the bike off to a VERY happy future X Games champion. I havent felt this emotional since Molly died on A Country Practice. The crew here at Port Hedland never cease to impress me. Always keep in mind the bigger picture Take care Hedland, speak soon.

15.01.2022 Update from Port Hedland Police, Sergeant Steve CLEAL. So, our local lock-smith villains have again managed to SOMEHOW enter an unlocked vehicle and find the keys hidden in the centre console (sigh). Unfortunately, this led to a crime spree over the past few days with several burglaries, stolen cars and 16 kidnapped mannequins! This three day investigation ended in dramatic fashion with our pocket-rocket (pictured below with her new friends) being dragged several metre...s by a stolen car as she hung onto the steering wheel from outside the car and pulled up the hand break. If that wasnt enough, two of the four occupants ran from the car! Now in this situation yours truly would have served the same purpose as a trophy cabinet in Fremantles Club House, however Port Hedlands gazelle chased them down over a kilometre through the scrub. All up, six offenders apprehended and charged for all offences - ALL the stolen vehicles and quad bikes recovered and most importantly, Port Hedlands Pocket-Rocket is ok. I am also happy to report ALL the kidnapped mannequins were recovered and returned - although we may have hidden one of the mannequin heads in the Rockets locker before returning them Take care Hedland, speak soon.
15.01.2022 Karratha Police would like to remind the community about the below law. Workers attending roadside incidents can be risky business. To make it safer for them, remember the law: flashing lights on a stationary vehicle means approaching vehicles must slow down, move over (if possible) and pass at 40 kilometres per hour. Lets look after those who look after us. Offence: Failure to slow down and move over $300 and 3 points.

02.01.2022 Dear Hedland Community, Just wanted to share a photo or two of the week it was, out and about in the community last week! Our team of Fair Gamers were jumping with excitement during a surprise visit from former West Coast Eagles player Jacob Brennan, thanks for dropping in.... Food bank packs, courtesy of Roy Hill, were delivered to some amazing community members, who themselves go above and beyond to help many out. R U OK Day was spent at the Hedland Senior High School, teaching the students, that whilst playing Dodgeball is fun, setting the arena up isnt so much! Thanks again to Pilbara Mental Health, Stephen Dawson MLA, Life & Soul and F45 who have supported the promotion of mental well-being in the community in this interactive way. Detective Senior Constable Green, Youth Policing Officers and Community Liaison Officer Geary delivered a great presentation on Cyber Safety to approximately 300 year 7s and 8s at Hedland Senior High School. And a stall at the annual Bloodwood Tree Career Expo Day finished our week off. Having our work experience student Jarred with us was a bonus as he managed to convince many of his friends a career in policing was the way to go. 01.01.2022 Dear Hedland Community, This afternoon Id like to talk about Part 5B of the Liquor Control Act 1988, which enables an owner or occupier of a private premises or privately owned land to apply to the Director of Liquor Licensing to have their premises declared a liquor restricted residence, for a specified period. If friends and relatives regularly cause trouble when drinking liquor in your home, or youre concerned about other antisocial alcohol related behaviour occurring,... you can apply to have your home declared a liquor restricted premises. Once a Liquor Restricted Premises Declaration has been issued, a notice must be displayed onsite, and one of our officers at the police station will be happy to assist. If someone is then drinking liquor or taking liquor into your restricted premises, you will be able to call the police, who will have the power to seize the liquor and may take action against the person who committed the offence. This year in Hedland were seeing a marked increase in strong community members, our elderly, and those with families and children, seeking to have their homes liquor restricted, and strengthen their way of life. If you would like any further information, please come down and speak to one of us, or visit some of our awesome local support services, because were keen to help and support you. Regards Senior Constable Dan Hunuki South Hedland Police Station
