24.01.2022 ‘Shadows’ cast a Sleeping Beauty moment at the Roxy! After a long winter’s sleep, the North West Theatre Company is set to awaken the beautiful Roxy with another very moving live theatre production. The play is ‘Shadows’ by Josephine Carter and it has a cast of seven. You can enjoy the play with friends and family and then stay on for a meal to be provided by the Bingara Lions’ Club members. Over eight months ago The Roxy was alive with the poignant and lovely voices of ‘L...ouisiana Ladies’. NWTC’s Secretary Tanya Heaton stated, ‘The combination of a play and meal for Louisiana Ladies once more proved to be a winning formula for the NWTC, and this is why we will be working with the Lions again’. Tanya added, ‘It will be a great chance for friends and family members to come together, get out of the house and reconnect with one another’. ‘Shadows’ cast member Lee Louden said, ‘It has been so great to start rehearsing again. With Covid19 and its implications we have all missed out on things that we love to do. More than ever this play allows us, as actors, to give joy to our audiences, and it allows them to escape just for a little while’. ‘Shadows’ will be performed over two weekends. Saturday evening performances are on November 14 and 21 at 7:15pm. Sunday shows are matinees at 12:15pm on November 15 and 22. The price for Show and the Three Course Meal is just $40. Because of Covid19 restrictions audiences are asked to ‘Bring Your Own’ drinks and glasses. Our audiences are restricted to sixty patrons per show and Covid19 martials will ensure that social distancing rules are kept. Select your dinner seating after checking in and take your theatre seat for a prompt ‘curtain up’ on the half hour. Bookings are essential and can be done online at www.roxybingara.com.au/category/whats-on/ or phone the Bingara Visitor Information Centre on 6724 0066.

07.01.2022 $315,000 UPGRADE LANDED FOR WARIALDA GOLF & BOWLING CLUB I was delighted to announce a $315,000 hole-in-one for the future of Warialda Golf an...d Bowling Club last week, in the form of a State Government grant to modernise the popular local sporting venue and function centre. This funding and project is a huge win for the club and the Warialda community. The club will be refurbished inside and out, providing a safe, family-friendly facility where locals can visit and socialise. During the drought, a lack of memberships and revenue saw a number of clubs, including Warialda Golf and Bowling Club, fall into the rough financially. To help the venue get back on the green, renovations will be undertaken to the existing amenities and improvements made to the commercial kitchen to allow it to better cater for functions and ensure food safety standards are met. Modifications will also allow for the creation of a new board room and additional storage space, while a new playground area for children will give younger patrons a safe place to enjoy themselves. Normally the club relies on volunteer labour to carry out maintenance of the golf course and bowling greens, however this grant will employee 13 local trades people including builders, electricians and painters to get the work done. Congratulations to the club committee and volunteers on securing this funding and a big thanks to Gwydir Shire Council for its support also! 07.01.2022 I grew up with and around farming and always wanted to work in the agricultural sector in some way. I have always loved health and fitness, and so this role br...ings these two passions together. As a health professional, I am particularly interested in rural men’s health and what we can do to improve health service access and health outcomes for this population. Connecting with the rural people who really need professional support and assistance is still a big challenge. There are many people living in rural communities who are uncomfortable approaching traditional medical and health services. They just aren’t familiar with them and they can be too difficult to access when you’re driving a tractor 14 hours a day to sow crop before a decent rain event arrives. To all our framers - don’t go it alone! Farm Gate Counsellors, like Matthew in Murrumbidgee Local Health District, are here for you. If you need support, or want to find out how to contact a Farm Gate counsellor, call the free NSW Mental Health Line 24/7 on 1800 011 511. If you live in Murrumbidgee Local Health District, you can also call 0436 811 692

01.01.2022 NEW WARIALDA SHOWGROUND STABLES CONSTRUCTION PASSES HALF-WAY MARK By the middle of next month Warialda Showground will have a brand new set of steel horse... stables, as part of a $226,489 COVID-19 Showground Stimulus project. I recently dropped in to check out progress and the stalls that are finished have already greatly improved the look and functionality of the showground. The demolition of the old ironbark stables only took a few days and showed just how small and unsafe the old structures were. Local builder Barry Jackson and his team have really hooked in on this project with around 75 of the nearly 100 individual 3m by 3m stalls now complete. What’s immediately noticeable is how much room each horse will have in the new building. Every stall has its own large gate and is protected with a corrugated iron roof. Work is ticking away on the six stallion’s boxes, animal drug testing stall and much needed, additional storage space. The steel posts are now in for the final run of stables closest to the Gwydir Highway, with the roof and infill scheduled to be installed over the coming weeks.
