24.01.2022 POP UP MARKET @ S&S Tonight: Friday 13th March, 4pm to 5.30pm The kids from our little school Bona Vista Primary School have been working really hard this week ...to prepare for tonights scheduled Warragul Kids Farmers Market, but the last minute cancellation of the event, has left them without a market for all produce they have harvested and the cookies they have made. So weve decided to host a pop-up market stall at S&S to help them raise money for their school. Come along to String & Salt from 4pm to 5.30pm for some great, cheap homegrown produce and delicious chai cookies. Theyll be plenty of fun and lots of smiling little faces to help you. #togetherwearestronger #thinklocalfirst ***If your school has produce you would like to sell to raise funds too, then we would be happy to host a small stall tonight or tomorrow at String & Salt. Contact Dave on 0418139409 to arrange.
24.01.2022 More information to be released soon, but be sure to mark your calendars for August 7 for our Annual General Meeting. Our friends at Whitegrain will be hosting the event so this is one AGM you dont want to miss! Watch this space!
23.01.2022 We understand that we cant always buy what we need from locally owned businesses, but when we choose to do so it makes a massive difference. On average, 48 cen...ts in every dollar we spend with a locally owned business is returned to our community through wages, local procurement and general spending. On average, less than 14 cents in every dollar we spend in a national or international chain business is returned to the local community in the same way. This even less when we shop online. It is important for vitality of our town that we continue to have a good mix of small, locally owned businesses and larger chains, and we can all do our bit to see this happen. Most locally owned businesses dont expect you to shop with them, but they do certainly appreciate it when you give them the chance. So while we all try to traverse this challenging period, we would like to encourage you to #thinklocalfirst when you come to make your next buying decision. We would also like to send a huge thank you to all the customers who have clearly made a conscious decision to spend their hard earned money locally already...it really makes a huge difference in the lives of our small business owners and their employees. Thank you

17.01.2022 We’re here for you, you’re here for us The experiences we are all having in relation to COVID-19 are like nothing we have ever experienced. Apart from the threa...t to our health, there are present and long-lasting economic ramifications. For those of us who have been in our towns you will have seen that many business doors are shut and there are signs indicating they don’t know when they will reopen. Some probably will not. Last week seven newspapers closed, including two just over the hills in South Gippsland. Rural newspapers are the heartbeat of their communities. We provide the local news and hold governments of all levels and business to account. In these times of social media hype, we are a trusted news source. Newspapers cannot survive without advertising revenue. It pays wages and pays the bills. As a result, we like many other businesses across the country have stood staff down and drastically cut hours. The Gazette was founded on July 5, 1898 and over its 121-year history has had just three proprietors. It has been a family owned newspaper with strong connections to our community. Our current owners, the Hopkins family, bought the paper in 1951, this August marking 69 years of ownership. Almost all of our staff live here. We have kids and grandkids in local schools, we are on a wide range of committees, we play sport here, belong to local arts and entertainment organisations, we shop here, eat out here and love everything about the rolling hills of Gippsland. We are proud Gippslanders. We are doing everything in our power to bring The Gazette to you every Tuesday. If it could survive on the passion and commitment of management and staff it would, but unfortunately it needs more than that. Today we have 44 pages, of which in the circumstances, we are all very proud. Hopefully you can buy it and encourage others to do the same. If you can get out we are on newspaper stands in supermarkets, at newsagents and at stores which are sub agents of newsagents. If you can’t we have the full digital edition available for purchase on our website. Details of an offer of home delivery and online appear on page 27. Maybe you can advertise in the weeks ahead. In an editorial our founder Albert Harvey ran in the early editions of The Gazette he said, in part, a good local newspaper is one of the best public assets that any district can possess. His words resonate now and will into the future. In these tumultuous times look after each other and most importantly stay well. See more

07.01.2022 Small businesses directly and indirectly affected by bushfires can access $10,000 through the Governments Bushfire Recovery program. There are conditions of co...urse - firstly you must be able to show a 40% decrease in revenue applicable to the bushfires. I hope that businesses that have a genuine issue will put themselves forward for these. It will help fund essential things like; accessing financial advice, covering salaries and wages, paying for utilities and fuel and more. Things are about to get pretty hard for many small businesses so if you know someone who is already struggling because of the fires, make sure they keep heading to this website to see what assistance they can get as new things may be added over time. And take care of each other please. Check in on your small business friends, they are taking hits left right and centre. https://www.bushfirerecovery.gov.au/
