13.01.2022 As our frustrating year continues, it is hope that you are well and coping in this Covid19 environment and we are thinking of all our members and appreciate that circumstances will be different for everyone. LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS As you will no doubt be aware, Local Government Elections are occurring soon and we will all be required to cast our vote for our local representatives. Information packs will be sent out by the Victorian Electoral Commission now that the Coun...cillor nomination period has closed on the 22 September. All council elections will be conducted by post and once we receive our ‘pack’ we will need to complete and return it as soon as possible as voting closes at 6pm on Friday 23 October. At the time of writing this update, we are unaware of all nominations to be a Councillor in Baw Baw. A key priority for WDABA is the development of our basketball facilities and we are seeking your support to highlight this as the priority at every opportunity. During the short election campaign, Local Government Candidates will be out and about and may also contact locals by phone. If you have the opportunity to speak with a candidate, I ask that you raise the Basketball facilities as an issue and seek their support in pushing for a redevelopment of the facilities, we need extra courts and we need them now. Here is where we are up to: Warragul Leisure Centre 2 court extension to this facility has had detailed design work completed and has been carefully costed and is Shovel ready to proceed. Funding opportunities are being explored and Baw Baw Council was recently unsuccessful in a funding request through the State Government Covid19 Stimulus Funding package. This redevelopment needs to stay on the priority list and be funded as soon as possible. Bell Bird Park Concept plans are required to be completed and then advanced through to detailed designs and costing stage. An extra 2 courts are also required at this facility to meet current demand. Council has allocated a small amount of funding for the concept plan work. This needs to be a higher priority for Council Bunyip auditorium This stadium is located in the Cardinia Shire Council area. Any of our members who live in that municipality can lobby their local candidates for a redevelopment of this stadium as an immediate priority. 08.01.2022 Due to our forever changing circumstances we have had to adjust game day constantly. Unfortunately our biggest challenge is court space not only for playing but for training. At the moment we have chosen to put competition ahead of training to ensure that everybody gets at least one opportunity to play every week. We are trying to accommodate as many players as possible every week. The conditions and requirements are changing multiple times per week which means we have to be... flexible. We will again have the opportunity to look at the competition/training structure during the September break and how we can proceed with as little impact as possible in these times of disruption. WDABA continues to structure the competition to ensure that the highest possible level of court time exists for everybody We would like to thank our members for their patience and to all of our clubs for their support and working with us so that we can continue to play basketball!!!
