25.01.2022 Unique Employment Opportunity! Animal Trainer/Handler. Do you have experience in animal training and conditioning, especially Australian Wildlife? Is patience one of your attributes? ... What about reliability and consistency? If you answered yes to all of these questions then this could be your dream job! We are seeking an experienced animal trainer to assist with crate conditioning, enrichment training and training our captive animals for our educational wildlife presentations. You will be working with animals including but not limited to; Dingoes, Wedge Tailed Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, Barn Owls, Boobook Owls, Parrots, Squirrel Gliders... In addition to knowledge and experience specific to animal behaviour and training, there are several skills that we are looking for in this role. Patience: The positive reinforcement necessary to mold animal behaviour takes time. It's not possible to explain to the animal what to do, so trainers need to work with animals step by step to learn new tasks and behaviours. Compassion: To build trust with animals, trainers must genuinely care about their well-being and work to care for them. Stamina: The work often is physical, especially when it involves larger animals such as our Dingoes. Reliability and consistency: Repetition is one of the keys to successfully training an animal, so trainers need to follow through on a strict schedule. People skills: While training animals is the biggest part of the job, you'll also need good communication skills so that you can pass on the training techniques to other staff. During training you may also oversee physical exercise, mental stimulation, and assist with medical care for the animal. You may also take part in our educational programs at the Sanctuary. Please note, this is NOT a Zookeeping role, it is an animal training/handling role. The advertised position will be between 10 - 20 hours a week with the view to becoming a full time position. Please send your resume and a cover letter outlining your experience to [email protected] If you know someone perfect for this role, tag away! We are happy to accept applications from interstate.

14.01.2022 Someone is spoilt !

14.01.2022 Update: If you'd like to make these yourself you can mix flour and water to make a paste. Then roll the toilet roll in bird seed. Alternatively you use honey by painting the toilet roll with a basting brush. Are you guilty of raiding the supermarket shelves of toilet paper? Well here's your opportunity to redeem yourself.... We'd love to make our Parrots some bird feeders out of recycled toilet paper rolls. It provides great enrichment for them and they're also fun to make! So, how about saving all of your toilet paper rolls and donate them to Warrawong. Alternatively, if you have your own birds, get the kids to make some. Its a great way to keep the kids busy and productive during lockdown :) See more

13.01.2022 Update! We're going to re-open to the public on Saturday 12th December, the first day of the school holidays. Please book your tickets online if you are planning on visiting to ensure we can adhere to the number of people we have on the premises. Remember, Gift certificates can still be purchased through our website for our Junior Keeper Experience, Animal Encounters and General Entry Tickets. We can't wait to see you all again soon :)... We're going to wait for the dust to settle. An on again, off again, approach to business just doesn't add up. We want to open and stay open, so we're understandably cautious. We hope to open permanently as soon as possible, but stay tuned. These are uncertain times and we're all doing our best. Rest assured, our awesome Keepers will be taking great care of our beautiful inhabitants while we wait for greater certainty. PS; Gift certificates can still be purchased through our website for our Junior Keeper Experience, Animal Encounters and General Entry Tickets. There's no expiry date on our gift certificates so they'll be plenty of time to redeem them
