24.01.2022 With the events that have unfolded so far for 2020 it is more important than ever to look after our own mental health as well as others. So many people throw unnecessary hate at others, not realising how much it affects them and how close they may be to breaking point. Ask a question, start a conversation and be open to the reply. Learn, grow and spread positivity and kindness to help make everyone's day that bit brighter. Words hurt, make sure your next words about someone you don't actually know, are positive ones. Sending positivity and cuteness to brighten your day.

17.01.2022 It's a tough time in Victoria right now and this has resulted in an increase in young people presenting to emergency departments for intentional self-harm over the past six weeks compared to same time in 2019. Self-harm is used as a way of coping with strong or painful emotions. For some, the attempt to control or stop feelings through self-harm is actually a way of trying to heal themselves. Some teens self-harm so they can ‘feel something’ rather than feeling nothingness or... emptiness, whilst others self-harm to show desperation or seek help. Self-harm is generally a sign of deep distress and it needs to be taken seriously. Read more about signs of self-harm, the importance of early intervention and getting help for self-harming teenagers. Important: If you think your child needs urgent medical attention for example, because of serious wounds or an overdose, or because they’re feeling suicidal call 000 for an ambulance or take your child to an emergency department.

12.01.2022 We're asking people to stay home and save lives. But for some, home is the most dangerous place to be. There is never an excuse for violence. And fleeing family violence is always a reason to leave home - restrictions or not. If you see or hear someone being hurt or intimidated, call 000.... Share these numbers with the people around you. And remember that family violence isn't always physical. You never know who might need help.

08.01.2022 Have you ever thought about how our actions are visible and readily modelled to our children, whether we realise it or not? * That’s the premise behind the Mir...ror, Mirror campaign that Warrnambool East Primary School (WEPS) is running this year as part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, from November 25 December 10. * Residents will see mirrors decorated by pupils in city shopfronts and are being encouraged to take a selfie of themselves in the mirror and post it with a message reflecting kindness/respect using the Instagram campaign handle @mirrormirror3280 and hashtags #MIRRORMIRROR3280 #reflectrespect and #reflectkindness * The campaign is set to gain momentum on social media and help people to pause and reflect on how they can model positive behaviours to the next generation understanding that respect is at the heart of gender equality, which is a precondition for preventing violence against women and children. Violence against women and children is a human rights violation of worldwide significance, with far reaching consequences for both physical and mental health. See more

07.01.2022 Children model the behaviour of the adults around them, and everyone will be asked to reflect on this fact literally. As part of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence, Warrnambool East Primary School students have decorated mirrors to be displayed in shopfronts throughout the Warrnambool city centre. People will be asked to upload a mirror selfie to social media with their own personal message about the impact adult behaviour has on children, or a message about... kindness more generally. This theme will also be explored at the 16 Days of Activism Warrnambool Launch event called Our Actions, Our Children: Mirror Mirror to be held online on November 25 from 7pm.

02.01.2022 "I am woman - hear me roar!" This iconic anthem was born in an era where many woman refused the status quo and took it upon themselves to become leaders in their local communities - and so the neighbourhood house movement came to be. So many 'strong, invincible' women across 50 years of community development work.... RIP Helen Reddy - a Melbourne treasure. Thank you for the music
