25.01.2022 So, The Long Ride to Darwin is complete and we uncovered some interesting Australian WW1 & WW2 historical sites on the ride from Sunshine Coast to Darwin. I'll be posting these individually over the next few weeks...this was packed for the trip and our hotel in Roma on night 1...

21.01.2022 And I had to include this from the Qantas Museum at Longreach for all the 707 lads!!

17.01.2022 Another (overdue) instalment!. Just a couple of photos of places we found during our reconnaissance of the Allies route of advance and the Australian Western Front area. For those Aussie's who have not visited the John Monash centre at Villers-Bretonneux, it is a must see if you're in the area. It makes visiting the Amiens area a minimum 3 day trip now. I have attached a few photos for our Kiwi, South African and Canadian friends and allies. There are a few photos of the German Cemetry at Langemark, where thousands are buried in a comparatively small number of graves. All worth a visit during our tours of the Western Front.

15.01.2022 Off on The Long Ride 2019 - Day 1 for me, riding from the Sunnie Coast to Roma to meet up with Peter Woolley and fellow riders, raising much needed funds to fight Prostate Cancer - https://www.longrideaustralia.com/long-ride-2019

06.01.2022 So, continuing the journey to find biker roads and interesting military sites, we moved on to Bastogne where the Battle of The Bulge was fought. For those into Band of Brothers, here is a few photos of the actual areas in which Easy Company were engaged. It was 1 degree in November during our visit so these guys had it hard!. Note if you visit and you pay a guide to take you to the actual foxholes, you're being duped. This is a working forest and has been turned over a couple of times since that period so very little, if anything of the original defensive positions remains.

05.01.2022 Checkpoint Charlie. A really interesting site where the red and blue teams faced off for many years. I didn't realise that uniformed members could transit the checkpoint into the east and in fact, many of those guys smuggled people back using military uniforms and fake ID's. A must see when visiting Berlin

03.01.2022 Berlin - Day 2. It's a very interesting city with a mix of Cold War history and some incredible artwork. First up, Cold War. The Berlin Wall divided the city but you need to see it to appreciate just what it was and how it affected Berlin. The original track of the wall is now a tiled pathway but there are a few remaining sections that give a glimpse into how it stood to keep east and west apart.

03.01.2022 Time to add a few more photos from the Darwin run. I travelled from the Sunshine Coast to Darwin and found a few interesting sites along the way. Many of the old assets are not recognisable now (airfields for example) but there were a few sites and memorials worthy of note.

01.01.2022 Well day 1 of the 2020 tour reconnaissance was sombre. We arrived in Berlin at 1030hrs and headed to the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp, 30 minutes north of Berlin. A sad reminder of WW2 but the site is maintained for that very reason. Over 200,000 prisoners saw these gates on the way in and many of them didn't come out. We were here on the 9th of November, it was 5 degrees and wet, a true indication of how bad this would have been. This will be on our itinerary for those willing to view it.
