10.01.2022 TBL RESULTS Monday night saw the competition emerge for its 2nd edition and it resulted it two action packed games. The opening game of the night saw the Sou...thern Cross Bricklaying Eels take on the Washed on James Mustangs. Unfortunately for the Mustangs they were without their top 3 draft picks (Joseph Johnson, Will Mitchell and JaKobe Hunter) and this saw them up against it from the opening tip, only having 6 players. The Mustangs held on in the first quarter however trailing 19-15 at the first break. Scoring would become an issue however as the Eels took a 43-25 lead into the half. The game threatened to blow out late in the 4th with the margin reaching 30, however the Mustangs emptied the tank and fought throughout the contest. For the Mustangs it was Ash Pailthorpe scoring 22pts including 6 3PM and Trevor Grieve 16pts that provided the resistance. For the Eels it was first pick Mayo Malek who dominated scoring 18pts to go with 19 rebs, 2ast, 3stls and 3 blks, Josh Allen also produced 3 rebounds and 3 assists before pouring in 28pts to see him take out the Week 1 scoring title. Final Score - Southern Cross Bricklaying Eels 84 defeated Washed On James Mustangs 59 The second matchup of the night saw the Pump Panthers take on the Westridge Fruit and Veg Warriors. Known as Mr First Quarter from the last edition of TBL David Werth threatened to continue this trend scoring an early 5pts points but it was the hot shooting of Joe McConnell that saw the Panthers take a 28-26 lead into the first break. The Panthers continued their good start through the first half and looked great when their starting 5 were on the floor, taking a healthy 51-44 lead to the main break. A fired up Syd Hume cut the deficit early in the 3rd quarter before facing a charge from the Panthers Noah Silcox-Smith and Joel Seaby saw the Panthers lead by 13 with 3.30 to go in the 3/4. However David Werth wasn’t going to let the game slip away from his side as he scored 8 for the remainder of the period an willed his side to lead 71-69 heading into the final term. The game remained a tight contest throughout the early parts of the 4th before the wheels began to fall off for a tired Pump outfit and Thon Angui started to dominate as he made bucket after bucket scoring 15 in the 4th as his side went on 25-4 run in the final 4 minutes saw the margin extend. For the Warriors it was David Werth 26pts and a BIG second half from Thon Angui (23pts) finishing layups left, right and centre who produced. For the Panthers it was Noah Silcox-Smith (17pts, 6ast, 6stls) and Chris Longford (19) who kept the scoreboard ticking however they got good production from their core unit with all starters in double figures. Final Score - Westridge Fruit & Vegetables Warriors 105 - Pump123 Toowoomba Panthers 86
