07.01.2022 Washpool Hall Upgrade Update: Did you know: The Washpool Hall, on RM Williams Way between Jamestown and Spalding, was built in 1913 to serve as a school building for the local community. During its life it has served as a school, church and community sporting and function centre. This historic old building is getting a bit tired with the passage of time and is in need of some love and care to ensure it remains a viable and welcoming community and social space. The W...ashpool Hall Management Committee are progressing with plans to rebuild and upgrade the aging and outdated kitchen and lobby at the rear of the hall. This area was built in 1957! The committee have recently submitted a five-year maintenance and upgrade plan to the Northern Areas Council, who are the owners of this community asset. The Council moved in support of the plan. In subsequent correspondence to the committee, Council acknowledged the "commitment to upgrading and retaining the Washpool Hall". Prior to submission of the five year plan, the committee had engaged a draftsman to develop concept designs for the kitchen and rear lobby area upgrade. These designs were paid for through fundraising efforts and the support of members of the Washpool Hall Social Club. Council have now commissioned working drawings and engineering reports based on these designs, to enable progression of building approvals for the site. The hall was recently assessed by an electrical contractor and a number of issues with the outdated wiring will be resolved as part of the kitchen upgrade. The committee have been successful in securing a small grant which will contribute to improving kitchen facilities at the hall. With the assistance of Council, other options for grant funding opportunities are being pursued to complete the major kitchen and lobby upgrade works at the hall. The Washpool Hall Management Committee would like to acknowledge Northern Areas Councillor Ben Browne, Council's Manager of Regulatory Services, Alan Thompson, members of Spalding District Inc and community members for their ongoing support and encouragement with this project. Thanks to Trevor Naismith for originally penning this update and stay tuned for further progress
