22.01.2022 So much awareness raising in May! This week is also International Compost Awareness Week! Here at Waste Not we're not just about the chicken treats! BSF farming also produces a nutrient rich compost! We feed this compost into a vermiculture system to add even more benefits and to deliver high quality worm-castings and worm-tea to Broome gardeners!

22.01.2022 A international leader in BSF farming, Dutch company Protix, produce a brand of eggs OERei from layers fed live BSF larvae Theyve found this diet improves layer welfare by reducing the amount of feather pecking behaviour https://www.feednavigator.com//Larvae-feeding-could-help-s

22.01.2022 The theme for this years Earth Day is climate action. Did you know, if food waste was a country, it would be the THIRD highest emitter of greenhouse gases Waste Not redirects organic waste like food waste away from landfill thus reduces their associated emissions, contributing to positive climate action

22.01.2022 So exciting to be able to share that Waste Nots founder, Lauren Bell, is in the running for the 2020 WA #AgriFutures Rural Womens Award. Is a privileged to have what the start up is trying to achieve recognised and validated at such a prestigious level. And to be in the company of the other finalists, all amazing women with amazing projects and vision. Thank you to #AgriFutures #DPIRD and sponsors #WestPac #CBH and #RRRNetwork for making the Award possible.

20.01.2022 Building resilient regional economics, not landfills. This is our companies vision statement! How do we achieve this? By redirecting organic waste away from landfill, and upcycling it into products that are valued by local industries. We contribute to the local circular economy while creating jobs and industry diversification!

19.01.2022 Hi everyone! I want to introduce myself. Im Lauren and I am the founder of Waste Not Food Recycling! I have a joint passion for agriculture and sustainability. My background is in beef cattle production, and Ive worked on cattle stations across Northern Australia, but call the Kimberley home. I was drawn to BSF farming as a way to sustainably manage food waste while producing a sustainable source of protein for feed. I want to make sure remote areas like the Kimberley dont miss out on participating in and benefiting from this unique, innovative industry!

19.01.2022 Throwback to 2019. During my proof-of-concept trial, this resident frill-necked lizard used to like to visit and snack on a few BSF larvae.

17.01.2022 Big news this week for Waste Not Food Recycling. We were announced as a successful recipient of a Regional Economic Development grant. This will fund some of our capital expenditure required towards getting a Broome based pilot plant up and running. Very grateful to Minister MacTiernan and the Labour State Government for seeing the potential for organic waste management and regional aquaculture, and supporting the project. Big months ahead getting the pilot set up!

16.01.2022 May is jam-packed with important days. Today is International Day for Biological Diversity Insects are crucial to biological diversity but are often a undervalued part of our ecosystem. They are a diverse bunch, acting as pollinators, nutrient recyclers, soil aerators, controllers of plant-pests.

15.01.2022 Why has Waste Not chosen to use the Black Soldier Fly larvae for organic waste management over traditional composting or worm farming? * BSFL can consume and thrive on various food wastes that are problematic for other systems. This includes; meat, dairy, citrus, onions, oils, etc. * With BSF farming you not only upcycle food waste into compost, you also get a valuable protein product that can be used in animal/aquaculture feeds. * They break down food waste a lot faster than... composting or vermiculture. Check out the video of these amazing creatures breaking down a hamburger in 4 hours!! https://youtu.be/9BhuGy-fGYU See more

12.01.2022 Waste Not is a Broome based start-up, that wants to help create a Broome where minimal food waste goes to landfill! By redirecting food waste away from landfill, we can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, landfill volume and help protect our beautiful and pristine Kimberley environment.

09.01.2022 75% of the worlds food is being made from just 12 plants and 5 animal species! A very small and vulnerable base from which to provide food security to a growing global population. Insect protein could be one pathway to increasing food and feed diversity! https://www.abc.net.au//nt-country/future-of-food/11979796

04.01.2022 While it may seem a bit left-field, insect farming is a growing industry in Australia with big potential! https://www.abc.net.au//insect-bites:-australias/10253494

03.01.2022 Did you know Black Soldier Fly larvae have over 50 x more calcium content than mealworms, but comparable protein and fat content! This makes them the perfect feeder insect for chickens and reptiles. Higher calcium means stronger eggshells in chickens, and no need to 'calcium-dust' for reptiles.

01.01.2022 Camping on Yindjibarndi country, just outside Millstream NP. Nothing like a few nights out bush, under the stars to refresh and be reminded of our passion for Australia's natural beauty. This is what drives us to want to manage waste in regional and remote areas better!!!
