18.01.2022 This is video premiered on 6 May 2020 at 6:45pm. If you missed out, feel free to watch it here and SHARE widely with your friends. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic... this year, we hosted the Australian Observance of the United Nations Day of Vesak celebration ONLINE for the first time to allow everyone not only from Australia but across the globe to take part in this auspicious event. A United Nations resolution on 15th December 1999 recognised VESAK as an international day which should be celebrated and observed by the UN Headquarters, UN regional offices and member countries. This has been in operation since the year 2000. VESAK (Buddha’s Day) is the most sacred day in the Buddhist calendar as it commemorates the birth, enlightenment and passing of Sakyamuni Gautama Buddha. VESAK has been celebrated for more than two and a half millennia by the Sangha, lay Buddhists and interested people all over the world. It is celebrated in various forms, cultures and traditions and maintained by more than 600 temples and Buddhist organisations in Australia.
