19.01.2022 Long, emotional post ahead! Many of my patients become good friends, but some become like family. Those reading this know who they are. They know that the past 18 months have been some of my most difficult emotionally and mentally. I'm always told I need to post more on social media. "You should post my case!" And yes part me considers transforming into that glamorous celebrity dentist that creates dazzling smiles all day! But that's never why I became a Dentist. It's not why... I established this practice. I'm not very good at writing self serving posts. Social media is to me (I'm a dinosaur by all measures except age) about community. Waterloo Dental is about community. Connecting with each individual that comes into my sphere of influence in a meaningful, positive way. I lost that way to some extent over the years. I was so busy that the work took hold of me. It was fun, I love the work of dentistry. I connected with amazing people, but it was also draining, and the vision and fulfillment began to disappear. Now with this developing situation, a few things have changed. I've had some time to reflect. And I'm seeing people that are in pain and often distressed. It has reminded me of the power to connect, comfort and care for another. Even a stranger. But certainly those close to you also. This isn't a 'this will all be ok' post. I don't really know what this is, just an overspill of my mind perhaps (and maybe the last after my practice manager reads it). I guess I'm grateful, that this noble profession has given me the opportunity to make an impact in a few people's lives, and I look forward to continuing to do so. Love M See more
