04.01.2022 Alas it is true! I've been struggling to find a word that describes both happiness + sadness simultaneously. After more than 2 years I have decided to close the doors to Wattlebird. It has been a hard decision as there are many parts to the business I love, but I have a small family, and need to make more room in my life for them. Working weekends doesn’t leave enough time. As many people know, I am a one woman show, and running a small business stretches over many days and ...hours, more than just being in a physical shop, and many other parts of my life have been neglected... my house is a shambles! My husband has been ridiculously supportive, but feels like he will be getting his wife back (will we still have anything in common?!). As well as all the above, Wattlebird is on a beautiful yet quiet street, which can have its pros and cons. I would like to suggest that when you can, try to shop at your local independent gift shop / nursery / bottlo / clothes shop, or corner store. These businesses are what can make your local area feel more like a village than a town. I buy many things online and at large stores (Bunnings - very guilty!), but if a couple of times a year we chose local instead of online then small businesses will prevail. Many people don’t realise the high overheads of a shop rent, electricity, employees, websites and stock, and to keep all this ticking over take a lot of energy and financial commitment. As a consumer we love having the shops available to us when we want them, so get out there and spread the love when you can! I know with this audience I am preaching to the converted, maybe I should just print off some flyers and stand outside of McDonalds! I am excited for the future, and Wattlebird may be reincarnated down the track so stay tuned! Thankyou so much for your instore, insta, and fbook support over the last couple of years it's been a wonderful ride! Isa xxx See more
