21.01.2022 Do you have fears and worries that are stopping you from living your best life? Don't worry about worrying, you're not alone, we all have them :) But here is some tips to not only overcome your fears but welcome your worries. First of all we need to recognise them and choose to face them. If you face your fear of failure you will increase your sense of failure, because as Yubing Zhang explores in her TED talk, "Its not as scary as it looks" If you face your fear of uncertain...ty you will increase your sense of courage and knowledge of what you are actually capable of. Facing your fear of vulnerability will increase your connection to others. Have a listen to her talk here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmN4xOGkxGo Grant yourself another 5 minutes of time to watch this lovely animation about the purpose of fear. It is a warning system and can be welcomed but we also need to be the boss of our fears so they do not overwhelm us and hold us back: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7NLIiybtyA If you would like to explore how you can acknowledge, face and overcome your fears book an appointment with our Principal Psychotherapist, Claire, by going to www.wattleseedcentrewa.com.au

21.01.2022 Your brain is so busy all the time and if your sleep is not deep enough it can quickly become tired. However, there is a way to increase the efficiency of your sleep by giving your brain a break during the day. It is called waking rest. Waking rest is the time limited period you give your mind permission to file through thoughts without stopping and analysing them. Think of it as leaves on a stream where your thoughts drift through. Take note of them but dont pick them up. T...his is your brain processing your thoughts, worries and dreams. Once processed the job is done and the brain is released from a back load of information to process during sleep. Your sleep will become deeper and more fulfilling. So next time you are doing the dishes, folding the laundry, mowing the lawn take this moment to stop thinking and simply observe your thoughts as they pass through your mind. Once the activity is over you can go back to thinking. To learn more about how to incorporate waking rest into your life book an appointment with our Psychotherapist, Claire, by going to www.wattleseedcentrewa.com.au

10.01.2022 Do you sometimes feel like you are bombarded with other people's negativity? Do people call you sensitive? There is a real value to being an emotionally sensitive person but sometimes our greatest strengths can also be our greatest weakness and we need to protect ourselves. Also, some people are very good at projecting their anger or frustration at the world and if they are hurting greatly they can also direct their emotions onto you. Which of course feels unfair and unjust.... There is a way that you can protect yourself from other's opinions of your behaviour and their emotions. Visualizing a barrier of magic fog surrounding you that repels negativity and only lets in positivity you can create an emotional shield. You cannot control anyone else but you can control you, how you respond to others and whether you believe their opinions to be your truth. Our Psychotherapist, Claire, is here to support you to strengthen your emotional shield and be less affected by others. To book an appointment got to www.wattleseedcentrewa.com.au

08.01.2022 Is your life so super busy that you end up crashing on the couch with no real sense of what just happened? Does a memory often pop into your mind of a time when you should have said something or done something but didnt? The seem unrelated but in reality both indicate the need to prioritise time to pause, reflect and become more active in living your best life. A helpful way to do this is to journal your experience of your thoughts, feelings and goals.... Bearing witness to yourself and your life enables you to feel acknowledged and more mindful of the choices you have for tomorrow. Sakinah Hofler contributed to Ideas TED exploring how creative writing can help you regain your power. Go to.. https://ideas.ted.com/how-writing-about-difficult-experien/ and Aspect Science explores the known effects of journaling https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmA6aN4ZWc4 Consider the possibility of giving yourself permission to bear witness and record your experience as this may help you feel less stressed, more aware and able to be your best self. 04.01.2022 Have you ever completed a challenging task found yourself standing back looking at what you have achieved with pride? Whether it is mowing your half acre of lawn, organising your laundry or receiving your diploma certificate? Authentic pride is a very important virtue we benefit in cultivating as it encourages us to celebrate our successes without comparing ourselves to anyone else. Inauthentic or Hubristic pride is what the seven deadly sins refer to where self congratulatio...n is based in a belief that we are better than others and is often seen as arrogance. Those who allow themselves the opportunity to experience and express authentic pride are often found to have greater sense of self control, perseverance and reach their goals. To learn more head over to David DeSteno's discussion on the topic https://ideas.ted.com/pride-can-be-a-virtue-but-it-needs-t/ If you would like support to explore how to cultivate authentic pride book an appointment with our Principal Psychotherapist, Claire by going to the website www.wattleseedcentrewa.com.au

04.01.2022 Do you have a fixed or growth mindset? A fixed mindset says that the characteristics we have are something we are born with and cannot be changed. A growth mindset says that our character is something that is shaped by our experiences and choices about who believe ourselves to be. To become our best selves we need to take responsibility for our character and make choices about living up to our own expectations of our characteristics. This video explains the growth mindset in ...more detail https://www.youtube.com/watch Counselling is not just about talking about our problems, it is also about wondering what are my strengths? How can I use them to demonstrate the person I believe I am? and How can I strengthen those characteristics I respect in others so I can emulate my mentors?
