24.01.2022 We went to an economic update hosted by Colonial First State yesterday. A quick summary to keep it as simple as possible. U.S - Everything is starting to normalise after years of quantitative easing. It is likely rates are on their way up next month. This will affect world bond markets.... EUROPE: - Unemployment improving across the board. Greece is still totally stuffed. Their prime minister has given up. CHINA: - A slow-down is occurring. Chinese investors jump from property investment to stock market investment and back again causing extreme volatility. They then push money offshore (Aus Property). Thanks to margin lending products emerging in Chinese banks, the markets were on Red Bull until last month... AUSTRALIA: - We are caught up in China's slowdown which includes our stock market. Nothing new there. - Growth and productivity below forecast. - It is going to be very difficult to get traction over the next few years and income growth is now at a stand still which is a real problem. Property keeps going higher. - Migration to Australia is now slowing. - For the first time in history the same amount of units are being built as houses. A shift in demographic. - The government (Libs & Labor) continues to look to the next election and not to our long-term prosperity and competitiveness. CONCLUSION: - Stock market losses are not due to a true economic downturn as such but rather markets coming back down to where they should be. Long-term averages prevail.

Developers behind these projects pay financial planners 5% per property to sell them to their clients. They also pay project marketing companies to produce flashy brochures with lovely stories behind the one in a million investment opportunities. Please be mindful of these 'off the plan' investment properties and those who sell them. Remember that t...he sale price has been increased by sometimes $50,000 or more to pay the adviser and the marketers. The buck stops with you. Make sure you do your research and that the investments you choose matches your personal goals and circumstances.
