25.01.2022 Nice pic Kelby!
24.01.2022 The Port of Gippsland Lakes is one of Australias biggest and most beautiful inland waterways. The Port waters cover 420 square kilometres from Sale in the west... to Lakes Entrance in the east, and include Lake Wellington, Lake Victoria and Lake King. The port waters also include the lower reaches of the Latrobe, Nicholson, Mitchell and Tambo rivers. A man made ocean access at Lakes Entrance has provided safe passage to Bass Strait since it was opened in 1889 and has contributed significantly to the regions history.
23.01.2022 Surreal and ominous skies in Paynesville today. Our thoughts are with those in fire affected areas.

21.01.2022 Just letting you know, Im back from my sailing trip. Thanks for your patience if youve been trying to get in touch with me, I left at short notice and didnt get a chance to properly communicate my absence, plus I was away longer than originally anticipated. The trip was to assist my friend Roger Wallis to deliver the schooner Abel Tasman from the Netherlands to Greenland for charter work during the northern summer. After a couple of weeks preparing the yacht, three of us... left Den Oever, north of Amsterdam, at the beginning of July and sailed south through the English Channel, around the south coast of England, stopping at Falmouth for fuel, and then across the bottom of Ireland, passing Fastnet Rock before turning northwest across the Atlantic to the southern tip of Greenland, arriving after 13 days. Here we dropped off our third crew member and then sailed for another week up the west coast to Illulissat (Disko Bay) to make the deadline for the first charter of the season. Here we picked up new crew, Annemie and Trevor, and on the same day, a family of four from Belgium. We then travelled further north to the Uummannaq region where we experienced the incredible scenery and culture of Northern Greenland and visited small villages, glaciers and icy fjords. For those who are interested I will post some photos over the next few days, starting here with the journey from the Netherlands to the bottom of Greenland (not much to see crossing the Atlantic), and in coming posts Greenland itself. 20.01.2022 Response to Covid 19 Webster Marine Boat Sales Remains Open For Business. We are committed to continuing to serve our clients as best we can during this difficult time.... As we are primarily an online business we will be marketing our listings as always. We remain available to answer enquiries either over the phone, via email or our social media platforms. Due to the need for physical distancing, we are planning to provide live video inspections for clients via Facetime or Whatsapp, but will consider requests for in person inspections of vessels on a case by case basis, subject to the logistics of doing it safely. UPDATE 30/3/20: New restrictions on non-essential travel will prohibit in person inspections from midnight tonight. We will continue to list vessels for sale, always taking care to adhere to safety protocols. These arrangements will be subject to change as the situation evolves. Lets all do the right thing and be safe.

12.01.2022 Getting stung by a blue bottle is an Australian rite of passage. But did you know it can be avoided? All you have to do is look out for the arrival of a beautiful violet shell on the seashore. Really!

09.01.2022 Classic Norman Wright 70' Motor Vessel "Oceanna" for sale
09.01.2022 "Oceanna" For Sale Well known and much admired Gippsland Lakes boat, MV Oceanna, is for sale. Owned by Gippsland couple, Annette and John Gibson, for the past 21 years, this motor launch has been widely admired for its classic lines and significant presence on the Lakes. She has become a huge part of our family for the past generation really says John. She caught our eye in Sydney in 1997, and we purchased her in Brisbane in 1998 when she came on the market. It was her cl...assic appearance, quality build, sea-worthy abilities and background which captured our attention. Oceanna was originally built in 1962 by well known quality builders Norman Wright and Sons, Brisbane River. She was commissioned by Australian Customs and launched as MV Killara in that year. From 1962 to 1979 she operated on Port Phillip Bay as a customs vessel stationed at Williamstown, where her speed and abilities were well known. In those days she sped along on duty at 18 knots, an unusual speed for a displacement hull of 70 foot length, driven by powerful Rolls Royce engines. Among her many duties during that time she searched for our missing Prime Minister, Harold Holt, in 1967 off Portsea. Numerous Williamstown-based sailors, as well as former customs officials remember her fondly. Paynessville shipwright, Rob Ashworth, did part of his apprenticeship on her, and is still involved with her maintenance. Amazingly, she is still remembered by the original builders, where last time John was in touch, photographs of her still adorned manager Bill Wrights office. In 1980, following decommissioning, she was totally rebuilt as a luxury cruiser. Superb comfortable accommodation for 13 people was added, and she was re-enginered with the addition of more sedate twin Gardner 8LXB engines. Enthusiasts of these engines recognise their famous reliability, easy maintenance and economical fuel use, traits reflected in Johns experience. Nowadays she cruises at 9.3 knots comfortably just at 1200 RPM, with high economy. She has the ability to make 13.5 knots. Annette and I handle her easily. In the 1990s she was made available occasionally, between our private use, as a demonstration vessel and floating classroom for Lakes Entrance based maritime facility, Seamec, for engineering and skippers courses. We have continued to give her very fond maintenance while updating many of her systems and luxuries says John. We have had wonderful coastal adventures from Brisbane to Hobart over the years with numerous friends on board. In between times, she is our floating waterfront apartment on the gorgeous Gippsland lakes where weve had great times with family and friends, or just by ourselves. Our approach is that we consider ourselves to have been the custodians of this iconic cruiser for the last two decades and now someone else can enjoy her. See more
08.01.2022 SEVEN THINGS YOU DIDNT REALISE YOU COULD DO IN GIPPSLAND
08.01.2022 Keen fishermen we saw at Lakes Entrance last week during a sudden downpour.
08.01.2022 Bairnsdale, Paynesville Metung movie .. Thanks to the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, ACMI, and youtube there are a few Australian home movies available... online. Some of the movies contain historic and/or interesting footage of places in Victoria. Some are wonderful to view, such as the Gold Coast in the early 1960s. One of the collections already digitised is that of amateur movie maker Ted Parsons , of Wangaratta. Some of Teds films include very interesting clips, such as the family trip to Walhalla, and this clip, taken from Teds film, titled by ACMI, Ted Parsons Just Roaming. Not exactly as Ted filmed it, the speed adjusted, some of Teds panning shots went on forever, edited, with a few little bits removed, and sound has been added. Adding the sound was so much fun. I have had the pleasure of visiting Paynesville and doing a little boating, so I hope that the fictional sound track reflects some of that experience, enhancing a little of the atmosphere captured by Ted Parsons camera. This clip helps recall just a little of the early 1960s Bairnsdale, Metung, Paynesville, Lakes experience. Hope you enjoy it .. now get on to youtube, search home movies and find more gems. :) BTW these tourism centres have been so popular for so long there may be many more home movies out there. Heres hoping they are discovered and made available to the world :)

06.01.2022 Last night around midnight a 45 ft yacht ran into wild weather and sought refuge at Sailors Grave. The anchor didnt hold in the big sea and the yacht ran agrou...nd on the beach at East Cape. A mayday call was received by the Melbourne Water Poilce and at 2.00am the Marlo Coast Guard was notified. It was initially thought that the boat had run onto the rocks, but when Marlo Coast Guard arrived they found the yacht beached on the sand. One of the crew was on the beach, unharmed but cold and pretty shocked. The owner was still on the boat and had been knocked around quite a bit. He was helped off the yacht and both men were taken to hospital to be checked over. A salvage crew will work to remove the stranded yacht over the coming days.
