23.01.2022 Mens Club Championships. B Singles. The semi-finals are scheduled for 9am Sunday, 16th August, and will be contested by Ian Whitten & Gareth Roberts in one match, and Des Schofield & Phil Gill in the other. To earn a semi-final spot Gareth defeated John Hannay 25-9, Ian Whitten held off a fast finishing Ian Dale 25-23, Des Schofield came home with a rush to get the better of Peter Teitzel 25-9, and Phil Gill defeated Brent Edwards 25-16. Nominations now being accepted for the Mixed events, to be played under lights on Friday nights from 18th September onwards.

23.01.2022 Club Championships: Mixed Fours Final What a cracker of a match last Friday afternoon! The standard of bowls, particularly by both Skips, was outstanding. Congratulations to Daryl Denman, Duncan McGregor, Anne Diduk, Barbara Luxton for their nail-biting 19-18 win over Stan Munster, Peter Teitzel, Maureen Page, Sue Teitzel. Despite the closeness of the final result, Team Denman opened the scoring and kept their nose in front for 18 ends. After six ends played it’s three ends ...apiece and the score is 7-3. One shot each in the next two ends and Team Munster pick up a triple to trail 7-8 after the ninth. Team Denman then stretched the lead to six shots after winning three of the next four ends, up 14-8 going into the 14th. Then it’s two ends each, with Team Denman picking up an extra shot and with the biggest lead of the match, 17-10, seemed to be travelling comfortably going into the 18th. The 18th end resulted in a three shot pickup to Team Munster to trail 13-17 with three ends of play remaining. Now the crowd are leaning forward. The pressure saw Team Denman get wobbly boots, and it’s a massive fiver to Team Munster, hitting the front for the first time in the match for an 18-17 lead with two ends remaining. Momentum was definitely with Team Munster at this stage, but to their credit Team Denman win the last two ends and the match. What a great couple of hours of entertainment. See more

21.01.2022 Club Championships: Mixed Pairs Final Warren Chambers / Leanne Grieve and Wayne Homan / Ree Patterson completed the 2020 Club Championship calendar when they played the Mixed Pairs Final last Sunday at 10am. This was fairly tight in the opening stages; 2-2 after two ends, 3-3 after four, and Warren / Leanne lead 5-4 after six ends, and when they lead 8-6 after the ninth, it’s anybody’s game. But unanswered pickups by Warren / Leanne of 3, 3, 1, 4, 1, provide them a comfortable margin with a 20-6 score-line going into the 15th. The next four ends were shared with each team picking up three shots, and with Warren / Leanne ahead 23-9 after 18 ends of play, stumps were called. Good bowls were frequent in the match with both skips playing some screamers, but the consistency of Warren proved telling. Congratulations Warren & Leanne.

19.01.2022 Club Championships: Mixed Fours Daryl Denman, Duncan McGregor, Anne Diduk, Barbara Luxton claimed the remaining berth in the Final with a 21-12 victory over Mike & Lyn Hartley, Leanne Grieve, Joe Aquilina (sub for Fred Birkholz). There was nothing in this game in the early stages, with the lead changing four times before it’s locked up at 9-9 after 10 ends. Team Denman win five of the next seven ends to lead 15-12 after the 17th, then pick up two shots in each of the next three ends and at 21-12 it’s time to touch elbows. Team Denman will play Stan Munster, Peter Teitzel, Maureen Page, Sue Teitzel in the Mixed Fours Final.

19.01.2022 Club Championships: Senior Mens Triples Final. This was contested last Friday between Denis Mahony, Wayne Homan, Warren Chambers and Daryl Dodd, Don Ward, Ian Whitten, with Team Dodd claiming the chocolates with a very skinny 19-18 result. This was a close game as the result indicates, with Ends shared almost equally. Team Dodd got out of the blocks pretty well on the back of wonderful lead bowls from Ian Whitten, judged by all as Best on Green, to lead 13-3 after 10 Ends. Team Mahony then won five of the next six to trail 8-14 after the 16th. Team Dodd extended the margin for 17-8 after the 18th, and then the wheels got wobbly. Outscoring Team Dodd nine shots to two over the next six Ends, Team Mahony trail 17-19 heading into the 25th and final End. Team Dodd were fortunate enough to concede only a single shot and claim the win.

This was a tight match in the early stages, 8-8 after nine ends, but then team Ponting enjoyed the run of the green a little more and pulled away for the victory. Mens Senior Triples: Congratulations to all sides that contested the Semi-finals played last Friday. Denis Mahoney, W...ayne Homan, Warren Chambers defeated Andrew Jalil, Ian Atherinos, Bert Eykenboom 26-18. And John Hannay, Jack Oudyn, John Siviour lost to Daryl Dodd, Don Ward, Ian Whitten. The Final is scheduled for Friday, 11th September at 1pm. Mixed Events: Nominations close at 4pm on Friday, 11th September for Pairs, Triples & Fours. First round of play will be the Mixed Pairs on Friday, 18th September at 6pm. (An earlier starting time would be preferred if contestants are in agreement.)

17.01.2022 Club Championships Mens Triples. Following are the results of 2nd Round matches played recently to determine spots in the semi-finals, scheduled for Sunday, 13th Sept at 9am: Mark Lohans trio of Lance Rowlingson & Mark Parry defeated Warren Chambers, Denis Mahony & Garry Bishop 25-22. Team Lohan opened the scoring with three shots on the first end and kept their noses in front for the duration. Down 4-15 after nine ends, Team Chambers took the next five ends to trail 1...1-15. Five shots to Team Lohan on the 17th end gave them a 21-12 lead, which was extended to 25-14 after 21 ends. Team Chambers did all the scoring over the remaining ends, but still trailed by three after the 25th end. Lindsay Pontings team of Wayne Homan (sub for Kepler Wessels) & Tom Mullen had a bit too much for Don Wards trio of Dennis Lillie (sub for Kev Folley) & Ian Whitten, running out 35-12 winners. Trailing by only five shots after 13 ends, Team Ward had two bad ends and its 22-8 after 15. Team Ponting managed to maintain the comfortable buffer to end of play. Daryl Denman, Mike Hartley, Des Schofield were never headed in their match against Stan Munster, Peter McIntyre, Peter Teitzel. Behind 9-11 after 14 ends, Team Munster did not trouble the scorer over the next six ends to go into the 21st end at 9-19. A very timely five shots and then a three set the stage for a grandstand finish with Team Denman ahead 19-17 with three ends to play. However, Team Denman monopolised the scoring in the run home for their 24-17 victory. Russell Jones side of Glenn Hamilton & Gareth Roberts outscored Bob Marty, Daryl Dodd & Don Brown over the initial ends for a 5-1 score line after the third, but then dropped a 4 to level the scores. Scores were level again at 7-7 after eight ends. The next 13 ends were relatively low scoring with all but one claimed by Team Marty, holding a comfortable 25-8 lead after 21 ends. Team Jones came home with a rush, doubling their score over the final three ends, but they ran out of ends and the match went to Team Marty 25-16. See more

13.01.2022 Club Championships: Mixed Triples A tidy crowd of informed supporters was on hand to see the 2019 winners of Warren Chambers, Peter & Sue Teitzel successfully defend their title with a 24-14 victory over Daryl Denman, Duncan McGregor, Anne Diduk in the Mixed Triples Final on Friday afternoon. Team Denman opened the scoring with a pair of shots on the first end and Team Chambers take the next three ends for a 3-2 lead after the 4th. Then it’s three ends to Team Denman and a ...5-3 lead after the 7th. Nothing in it at this point and after 10 ends played it’s tied up at 6-6. Team Chambers found a little more over the next few ends to lead 15-6 after the 14th. Team Denman then reclaimed the mat, only to drop a fiver on the 16th, and trail 7-21 after 17 ends. The next few ends are shared and after 22 ends it’s Team Chambers comfortably ahead 23-10. Then a pickup of a very solid four shots gave Team Denman a glimmer of hope, requiring nine shots over the final two ends to force an extra end. Although coming close to another multiple on the 24th end, Team Denman had to chase shots and stumps were called when Team Chambers claimed the end. A most entertaining match with some very good bowls played by all concerned. Congratulations to both teams. 06.01.2022 Club Championships: Mixed Triples Daryl Denman, Duncan McGregor, Anne Diduk are the first team into the final with a 28-17 victory over Mike & Lyn Hartley, Fred Birkholz. This was a closely contested match for the most part with scores of 8-8 after seven ends, 12-12 after the 13th, and only the single shot between them after the 17th with Team Denman ahead 16-15. Scoring in the run home was dominated by the eventual winners and it’s Team Denman 28-17.

05.01.2022 Club Championships: Mens Triples Semi-Finals. Lindsay Ponting, Kepler Wessels, Tom Mullen were the first side into the Final after seeing off Lance Rowlingson, Dave Tomlin (sub for Mark Lohan), Mark Parry. Leading 12-6 after 12 Ends, Team Ponting steadily built on the lead toward the final score of 25-14. The other semi-final was very keenly contested with the lead changing five times and scores level on another five occasions. Bob Marty, Daryl Dodd, Don Brown were up 5-1... after four ends, 7-3 after seven, and 10-5 after the 9th. But a mere two ends later and its 11-10 to Daryl Denman, Mike Hartley, Des Schofield. After 13 Ends its 12 shots apiece, then 18-12 to Team Marty after 15 Ends. Team Denman refused to share the scoring over the next five Ends and after 20 Ends its 18-18. Although dropping one on the next End, Team Denman won the next two to lead 20-19 with two Ends of play remaining. Heading into the 25th and final End, the score is a nail biting 20-20 and Team Marty was fortunate enough to secure the single shot required for a 21-20 victory. The Final between Team Ponting and Team Marty is scheduled for 9am next Sunday, 20th Sept. See more

05.01.2022 Mens Club Championships. B Singles: The semi-finals were won by Gareth Roberts (15-16 against Ian Whitten) and Des Schofield (25-16 against Phil Gill). The Final on Sunday was an entertaining match that could have gone either way. Gareth flew out of the box to lead 11-2 after nine ends. Des kicked back and had reduced the deficit to two shots (12-14) after 15 ends. Gareth increased his lead to 21-14 over the next four ends and looked reasonably comfortable, needing jus...t four more shots for win. But Des wasnt done yet, taking the next four ends to again trail by two (19-21) after the 23rd end. Gareth found a bit more in the tank and scored the required four shots to claim the 2020 B Singles Title, 25-20 in a very good game of Singles. Congratulations to both. Mens Pairs Semi-finals: Russell Jones & Don Brown claimed the first Final berth with a 25-20 over Mike Hartley & Fred Birkholz in another entertaining match. A bit slow off the mark, Mike & Fred trailed 0-9 after five ends, but turned that around to lead 10-9 after the 10th. The next couple of ends are pretty much shared and its 13-11 to Mike & Fred after 13 ends, then the nine shots Russ & Don picked up in the next two ends gave them a very handy 20-13 lead after the 15th. Not to be phased, Mike & Fred came back again to within one shot at 19-20 after 17 ends of play, but Russ & Don had the better of the run home, winning 25-20. The other Finalists are Warren Chambers & Denis Mahony who secured a two shot victory of David Fletcher-Mathews & Craig Marshall. 03.01.2022 Club Championships: Mixed Pairs Warren Chambers & Leanne Grieve claimed a semi-final spot with a 25-15 win against Russell & Janelle Jones. Warren & Leanne started strongly, ahead 10-0 after seven ends. Russ & Janelle then got into it and trail5-11 after 11 ends. Scoring is shared over the next four ends and it’s Warren & Leanne up 16-10 after the 15th. The remaining ends are shared but Warren & Leanne managed to widen the margin. The last pair into the semi-finals was Wayne... Homan & Ree Patterson with a 21-19 win over Peter & Sue Teitzel. Although winning the first two ends to be up 4-0, the Teitzels starting spinning their wheels and it’s Wayne & Ree ahead 20-7 after 15 ends. Peter & Sue kicked again to trail 16-20 after the 18th, and although dropping only a single shot over the remaining ends, Wayne & Ree were able to limit the scoring and protect the lead. The first semi-final was a 19-11 win to Wayne Homan & Ree Patterson over Gill Homan & Daryl Denman. Wayne & Ree took the lead in the 2nd end, and Daryl & Gill reclaimed it in the 8th and lead 7-5 going into the 10th. Then five consecutive ends to Wayne & Ree provides them a 12-7 lead after 14 ends. Daryl & Gill have the better of the next few ends and trail 11-13 after the 18th. Wayne & Ree then dominated the scoring for the 19-11 win. The second semi-final was bit one-sided with Glenn & Anne Hamilton having an unhappy day, going down 6-28 to Warren Chambers & Leanne Grieve. Dropping a seven on the 2nd end was not the best of starts, giving Warren & Leanne a 9-0 lead going into the 3rd. The Hamiltons won the next three ends to trail 3-9, but then only got to roll the jack twice more before the mercy rule was invoked.
