23.01.2022 From a gorgeous pup to a trainee ALHD and now an accredited Hearing Assistance Dog..... Congratulations to ALHD "Harrison" and his recipient for completing his ...follow up training. Harrison was officially given his ALHD collar at a Lions meeting of the Pambula Merimbula Club who supported Harrison's placement. In the below photo is Lion Vicki Bond, who is the ALHD 201 N2 District Chairperson and the recipient of ALHD "Brody", President Gary, Lion Anthony and Angela. Harrison was sourced from Bodhran Cocker Spaniels and was raised through our puppy program. A big thank you to his Foster family for giving Harrison a great head start in his Hearing Assistant Dog career.

19.01.2022 This week we have two dogs being placed with their deaf or hard of hearing owner. The first is ALHD "Wynne". Wynne is a Border Terrier from Cherishem Border Te...rriers and was fostered through our Puppy Program. He was sponsored through the puppy program by the Lions Club of Blackwood Inc and was named after one of their long serving members. A big thank you to his Foster Carer and their family for all of the time and efforts that they gave to give Wynne such a great start in his career as a Hearing Assistant Dog.

16.01.2022 The week of the 2nd-8th of August is International Assistance Dog Week. This week was created to recognise all the devoted hard working assistance dogs that hel...p individuals to have a more independent life. In honor of this week we would love to hear from some of our Australian Lions Hearing Dog recipients as to how their dog has helped them mitigate everyday life or a heroic deed that their dogs has done. We will begin with the story of ALHD "Polly" she was a little Papillion x who was placed in NSW. When her recipient was visiting a family member, Polly ran to her owner and tapped her but there was no sound occurring that Polly was trained for. After she did this twice more the recipient followed her. Polly led her to the next room where the baby was sleeping and it was soon apparent that the baby wasn't breathing as her lips had turned blue. The baby was rushed onto a ventilator and was thankfully breathing again. It just goes to show how inventive dogs are when they can work outside the realms of what they have been trained for. If you have a story to share please post in the comments below.

13.01.2022 SpringFest Ballarat Cancellation of 2020 event Rotary Club of Ballarat SpringFest Management Committee met on Monday 29th June and made the difficult decisi...on to cancel SpringFest Ballarat, due to take place in November 2020, in the best interests of public health. We are very disappointed to make this announcement but ensuring the health and safety of the community was paramount. The COVID-19 health crisis is unprecedented and the ongoing changes in social distancing measures and mass gathering restrictions being made in the best interest of public health, means that we are unable to plan and deliver the 2020 SpringFest Ballarat Event with any certainty. SpringFest Ballarat is an iconic Ballarat community event, attracting over 35,000 market-goers, hosting 540 stall holders, with 6 sub-events and over 150 volunteers assisting on the day. The Rotary Club of Ballarat’s purpose in delivering SpringFest Ballarat is to support the many deserving groups in Ballarat. Every dollar raised from SpringFest Ballarat is donated back into the local community. Save the date SpringFest Ballarat will return bigger and better in 2021 Sunday 28th November 2021. The SpringFest committee are exploring alternative opportunities to present SpringFest Ballarat online to enable us to continue to support our Community Partners and offer a platform for stall holders to be involved. We will have more details on how you can get involved shortly stay tuned.

09.01.2022 This pair of furry friends is bringing joy to their new owners, but more importantly they will help expand their worlds. In a Lions Hearing Dogs first, two hear...ing dogs were placed with recipients that live just doors away from each other. Both ALHD "Sparky" and "Spud" who are Australian Labradoodles from Alpen Ridge Labradoodles were placed with the their hard of hearing owners over the last few weeks. Already they are settling in well and making a huge difference to their recipients!

09.01.2022 Another innovative first from Australian Lions Hearing Dogs with trainee ALHD Sheena modelling our brand new Assistance Dog and Puppy Jackets which have QR code...s included on them. The QR code on the orange jacket directs people to information on public access rights that all Australian Lions Hearing Dogs have on our webpage. https://lionshearingdogs.com.au/about-us/access-rights/ The blue jacket's QR code directs to our website where people can donate and find out more information about being involved in our Puppy Program. https://lionshearingdogs.com.au/donate/

04.01.2022 Just when you thought there were enough Karen's in the World introducing our newest recruit to the training program, Karen! Karen is a 9 month old Beagle x fro...m Dogs' Homes of Tasmania and she’s here to join the #notallkarens movement, to show us all that some Karen's are here to do good (and are really cute!). Many of our dogs come from rescue backgrounds and we are proud to work with shelters across Australia to give these pooches a second chance at a great life and to change the life of a deaf or hard of hearing person.

01.01.2022 #FosterFriday Pandora is a very outgoing pup and we love this adventurous/confident quality in her! She has been attending Lions meetings at the Lions Club of E...lizabeth Playford Inc where her Foster Dad is a member. He recently received an award from the Club for all of his dedication to Australian Lions Hearing Dogs. Pandora is the fourth pup that he has fostered. Pandora is an Australian Labradoodle from Beachcomber Labradoodles and is sponsored by Trish.
