23.01.2022 Something to think about for your next puupy!

23.01.2022 Hi Members, with the lockdown still in force we will bring you some info on dog related activities and the opportunity to send in photos of your dogs. We will start off with a short article on things to teach your puppy which we hope you will find useful and remember to feel free to contact us if you have any issues that you need help with. 10 THINGS TO TEACH YOUR PUPPY 1. Expose your puppy to a variety of situations remembering do not force them.... A variety of equipment tunnels, see saw, tarps, bread crates, low tables, mini A frame, prams, toys on wheels, telecom covers, grates etc A variety of sounds horns, whistles, squeakers, clappers, chain, thunderstorms, loud music etc A variety of people interacting with them take them for a walk into town, get them to sit and just stand watching people go pass, constantly speaking to them for assurance. If they ask to pat them, use your discretion (especially with young children) regarding saying yes or no. 2. Leave your puppy alone sometimes to prevent separation anxiety. This will help if you must go to work during the day or go out at night. Best to leave plenty of toys and even one of those treat dispensers to stimulate them. 3. Start housetraining right away - taking them out straight after eating, when finished playing and once they wake after sleeping. 4. Provide your puppy with chew toys (good quality if possible) a small Kong should suffice. 5. Use positive reinforcement training. Positive reinforcement involves the addition of a reinforcing stimulus (treat or toy) following a behaviour that makes it more likely that the behaviour will occur again in the future. 6. Make learning fun always be cheerful and praise when an exercise is completed successfully. Do not get frustrated if unsuccessful and go onto another exercise, as the pup will pick up on that and play up even more. 7. Teach your puppy to come when called The recall is one of the exercises that uses the reward to the full extent, especially when teaching it to puppies 8. Teach your puppy that human touch feels good - try to get as many people as possible to stroke puppy gently, this can be done on your walks into town. 9. Take your puppy on car rides to various places so that they learn that the car is a good thing and not just for going to the vets! 10. Earn your puppy’s trust by being gentle, do not get angry or frustrated, give them space (especially if you have young children), being consistent in the way they are treated or trained, pay attention to them, protect them and last of all spend quality time with them. 23.01.2022 Some photos of our last day of training for 2020. We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year and look forward to seeing you in 2021.

22.01.2022 Sadly, with the announcement by the government on the 07/07/2020 that metropolitan Melbourne was returning to stage 3 lockdown, we are required to close our doors for training once again. When we are permitted to reopen, we will email you and also place the details on the clubs Facebook page and website. For members in the lower classes, we remind you that Peter and Ken have previously released several short videos which cover all the class 1 exercises. These videos can be found on the club’s Facebook page and will assist you with your training. Remember keep up 5 minutes training every day with your dog and have fun doing so. Until then remain safe and we hope to see you back at training in the future!

14.01.2022 Training update Hi Members, Over the past couple of weeks we have had class 1 return to the club for training, and this has gone extremely well. We have found that we only need 2 sessions for our Class 1s and so we are now able to offer our Class 2 & 3 members the opportunity to return to training.... The follow classes and times and classes commence this Saturday 27th June, please note that the class times are only for 30 minutes. 1pm will be for members who have joined the club from the 1st June 2020 2pm will be for members in class 1 who joined the club in February 2020 and in 2019 3pm will be for members in Class 2 and 3 Class 2 & 3 members please note that we are no longer using the yellow training cards so you do not need to enter the club rooms to get those cards. Tuesday night training for our trialling members as per normal, please keep an eye on the clubs Facebook site for non-training nights. On Arrival You are requested not to arrive more than 15 minutes before your scheduled class starting time. When parking please ensure you leave plenty of space between cars i.e. at least a half a car with between each other. Make you way onto the ground via the path from the carpark, the path to the clubrooms will be closed. There will be a table with sanitizer on it for your hands and you will be directed to your allocated area for training on the ground by a committee person. Please ensure that you have your membership name tag on you. No membership tag means NO training. We will take a photo of your name tag only for arrival and exit times at the club as per government’s requirement for the club to operate. You will be required to hold it at arm’s length to maintain social distance when you are in class. If unwell, please stay at home. If anyone shows signs of being unwell, they will not be permitted to participate in class. Werribee Council have granted the club permission for use of the club rooms with various restrictions to maximum numbers, furniture etc. Toilets will be now accessed through the club rooms on Saturdays. End of training Your instructor will guide you to the path on the north side of the clubrooms and down the driveway at the back of the clubrooms to the carpark. This is to ensure we adhere to government directions for clubs regarding entry and exit points. You are requested to depart quickly to enable the next group of members to arrive in the carpark

11.01.2022 Membership renewal As previously advised in the club's newsletter, the committee has decided to waive membership renewal fees except for the insurance component.
