21.01.2022 The Wesley has donated 43 hospital beds and 19 mattresses to hospitals in Sri Lanka, with the help of Rotary Club of Jindalee, who have arranged the donation of 1500 beds over the past 17 years. Sri Lanka is a very poor country and the nurses and patients are so appreciative. These beds will be replacing fixed height beds that have been in operation since post-war. 21.01.2022 Unlike many of us at the moment, blood clots are still able to travel. And when they travel, they can kill. Did you know that one in four people die from causes related to blood clots? Know the signs to look out for. | worldthrombosisday.org #thewesleyhospital #worldthrombosisday
20.01.2022 In the year of COVID-19 we have much to be proud of: endless planning and training, staff who raised their hand to volunteer on planned COVID wards, flexibility and understanding and, of course, the uplifting community support (as pictured). What better display of courage and passion in the Year of the Nurse and the Midwife. Thank you for trusting us to care for you and your family. From all of us here at The Wesley Hospital - wishing you a happy and healthy 2021! #thewesleyhospital

20.01.2022 Waiting has become the norm for millions of people: many wait in quarantine; wait for the numbers to lower; for a vaccine to be created; for restrictions to be lifted. Similarly, many hospital patients experience a season of waiting. As Advent, the ‘waiting’ time prior to Christmas is upon us - take a moment to consider the act of waiting and the perspective it can bring... https://bit.ly/TWHadvent2020 #thewesleyhospital
19.01.2022 Our ICU team helped care for regional patient Brendan Hodda for 56 nights while he underwent more than 70 blood transfusions and a bone marrow transplant. Now his wife Roxanne is involved in the development of the national strategic action plan for blood cancer, to ensure all Australians receive the same quality of care. #thewesleyhospital | Leukaemia Foundation

17.01.2022 Baby Arthur was born at The Wesley at just 29+6 weeks gestation, after mum Alison suffered a placental abruption. After receiving Neonatal Intensive Care, Arthur returned to The Wesley Special Care Unit for five weeks where he grew strong and Alison recovered. Dr Melinda Heywood from @exxpectations_obgyn saved us both when I suffered a placental abruption and had a near fatal haemorrhage. I absolutely love The Wesley SCN staff and are still in contact with them. Arthur is doing beautifully now, he's two years old and happy and healthy and wonderful. I owe it all to The Wesley . Celebrating the strength and bravery of mums and their little ones born prematurely on #worldprematurityday

11.01.2022 Surgeons and their colleagues at The Wesley Hospital have performed their 500th procedure using Mako robotic technology. Dr Richard Hanly said the robot allows the surgeon to provide a truly individualised solution to joint replacement surgery, planning prosthesis position, size, alignment, and margin of bone resection prior to entering the operating theatre. 10.01.2022 Most of us will never see the work of a Perioperative Nurse - due to the effects of our anaesthesia in surgery. Their role includes supporting the surgeon; ensuring every instrument that goes into theatre is accounted for before and after surgery; checking off the lists for patient and procedure; and acting rapidly when a patient deteriorates. Thank you to all of our Perioperative Nurses during Perioperative Nurses Week. #YearoftheNurseandMidwife
10.01.2022 Marking the tenth anniversary of the Robotics program at The Wesley, in conjunction with Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, A/Prof Troy Gianduzzo reflects on the history and growth of the innovative program, with our surgeons having performed more than 6500 robotic cases. #thewesleyhospital | http://bit.ly/TWHrobotics10
09.01.2022 Our thoughts are with the Gambaro family, following the passing of Mr Michael Gambaro. We thank the family for their enduring and generous support for the work we do, in caring for our shared community.
08.01.2022 Have you heard the chimes sounding through The Wesley, signaling the birth of a new baby? It’s one of numerous legacies that Reverend Julie Mackay-Rankin leaves at The Wesley, in addition to the thousands of lives she has touched through her Pastoral Care ministry. Today we bid farewell to Julie and thank her for the past decade of care and service. #thewesleyhospital #pastoralcareweek
08.01.2022 Behind the scenes with our epic Engineering team! Among their long days and long list of to-do’s, this hardworking team was recognised by our GM Sean Hubbard and Workplace Heath and Safety for their commitment to the safety and wellbeing of patients, visitors and staff at The Wesley. #thewesleyhospital
07.01.2022 Our Wesley Waste Warriors find creative solutions to divert retired equipment and products from landfill, diverting 220 tonnes of waste in the past financial year: Switching to paper straws, and providing only upon request, prevents 480,000 plastic straws going to landfill each year. Water jugs are provided for every patient in each ward instead of bottled water, stopping the use of more than 10,000 plastic bottles a month!... In partnering with OzHarvest, The Wesley donates 250kg of whole fruit and breakfast cereals each month for school breakfast programs. Medical consumables and equipment no longer fit for human use are donated to Animal Welfare League. 06.01.2022 Hats off to the winner of The Wesley’s Recyclable Hat Parade, Kirsten! The winning sustainable design incorporated a Wesley towel, diathermy, wires, yankauer suckers, oxygen tubing, cable ties and kimguard, all pieced together on a theatre light cover. Thank you and congratulations to all of our talented entrants, who created their hats using only recycled materials from their workplaces in Theatres, Anaesthetics, CSSD and PACU. PS We hear that Kirsten is rather crafty and, along with other nurses, generously made surgical masks for our COVID-19 training simulations. Superstar! #thewesleyhospital

02.01.2022 Prenatal genetic tests can offer mothers a great deal of information about their unborn babies. Once fairly invasive, some of these tests can now be conducted with a simple blood sample from the mother. Watch Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Associate Professor Gino Pecoraro, as he discusses what tests are available for expectant parents to consider.
01.01.2022 Hot on the heels of establishing a leading robotics program, The Wesley Hospital created the first dedicated Prostate Cancer Support Nurse role in Queensland in June 2011.
