18.01.2022 The IB Diploma's Inner Core: At the same time as studying the academic subjects, there are other compulsory core elements designed to develop you into an all-round leader of the future. This is an aspect of the IBDP that greatly distinguishes it from other curriculums - it enhances your suitability for the top universities and helps shape you into a well-rounded applicant.... *Theory of Knowledge (ToK) *Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) *Extended Essay (EE) Together these subjects teach: critical thinking skills (TOK), leadership and social responsibility (CAS) and research skills (Extended Essay). Over the coming days we will post more about the Inner Core and how this differentiates our students and prepares them for university and beyond. #TOK #CAS #EE

18.01.2022 Theory of Knowledge (ToK) Explained: The first of the inner core IBDP elements is called Theory of Knowledge (ToK). This course often starts as the most confusing of the IB Diploma subjects but often ends up as a student’s favourite element of the programme. Essentially, Theory of Knowledge asks the question: ‘How do you know what you know?’.... This question is examined alongside the academic disciplines so that the whole programme provides a holistic, organic experience. The study of Theory of Knowledge will challenge your preconceived ideas, will develop your critical thinking and logical analysis and provide the stimulus to develop your intellectual capacity. To assist you to develop the skills needed to succeed in this study, ToK is taught over the two years of the programme and individual subjects often contain aspects of ToK investigation. The ToK course is assessed through an oral presentation and an essay. Usually, the essay title requires you to approach the topic reflecting two or more subject perspectives. Whilst, initially, the subject might sound abstract, the content of the course is grounded firmly in the academic subjects you study. The holistic nature of the programme facilitates a synthetic understanding of the various elements of the programme. The school will provide a tutor to assist your study and will set internal deadlines to ensure that you stay on course. Teachers will also guide you to ensure that you have an appropriate question and presentation at the end of the course. Explore three Grade A TOK Essays: https://hubs.ly/H0zjvmh0

18.01.2022 The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) has made developing critical thinking a central focus of its programme and approach. Critical thinking plays an important role both in the classroom and everyday life, including being a key factor for determining individual and collective success in the face of complex global challenges. Quantitative findings indicate that IB students had significantly higher levels of critical thinking than their non-IB peersan ad...vantage that held even after relevant covariates were controlled for using regression approaches and propensity score matching. The critical thinking advantage seen in IB students was more pronounced in students that were in the later stage of the DP compared to those at the beginning of the DP. Overall, these results provide evidence that DP participation benefits critical thinking, as measured by a pre-validated critical thinking assessment. 07.01.2022 The Extended Essay (EE) Explained: The second core element is the extended essay. When you arrive at university you will be expected to write essays which are appropriately researched and referenced. You have no need to worry if you study the IBDP. All students are required to write a fully researched and correctly referenced essay of 4,000 words. This gives you a tremendous advantage when you go to university but also a sense of achievement and success when you complete your... essay. In total you will spend approximately forty hours compiling your research, structuring and writing your EE, each part of that process is supported. You are able to decide the topic for your research and you will receive guidance and support both from your fellow students and a designated teacher. Through the research process for the extended essay, you will develop skills in: formulating your appropriate research question engaging in a personal investigation of the topic communicating your ideas developing your argument. You will improve significantly your ability to analyse, synthesize and evaluate knowledge: key elements to success in university and, indeed, in life.
