25.01.2022 GET TO KNOW OUR WEMA TUTORS One of the first students enrolled at wema and now, one of our longest standing piano tutors, Cat! How long have you been playing piano? - Let's just say, I've been playing piano for OVER 30 YEARS!!!! ... What does music mean to you? - Music is an escape. Something you can lose yourself in. It's uplifting, it's expressive, it's a release. Favourite musical achievements? - I've had some amazing musical opportunities over the years. Some of my highlights include achieving my Proficiency Certificate in piano and also being a part of an European Jazz Music Tour when I was 17, Touring Germany, Austria and Switerzerland and playing in the Montreau Jazz Festival!!!!! My greatest reward however is seeing both my children follow their own musical dreams at wema. Why do you like working wema? - I've literally grown up at wema. It's always been a part of my life and I can't ever imagine that changing.

17.01.2022 GET TO KNOW THE DIRECTOR! We present to you, the talented being responsible for helping our musical dreams come true. The person who bought wema into our lives and has made it the absolute success it is today. Ladies & gentlemen, here is Nunzio! How long have you been playing your instrument for? - I started playing the Piano Accordion at 9 years of age, moved to Classical piano at 13 & formed my 1st band at 15. Lets put it this way... a long time.... What does music mean to you? - Someone once said to me music is a science where all the variables are moving. The older I get the more I understand this. Music breaks all barriers and has allowed me to connect with so many people and it is an absolute privilege to call it my career. Can you imagine a world without music? What are some of your favourite musical achievements? - 1972 Grand Finalist Channel 9 Junior Spotlight - 1973 Winner of Channel 7 Stars of the Future - 1983 -1987 playing pretend rock star in one of Perths Classic 80s bands Stallion (I had no say in the name). Gig Highlights: playing packed houses every week and getting our songs (original) played on Singapore radio. - 1987 Purchasing Main Street Music School from Kevin Paige & rebranding it to west end music academy. - 1989-1993: Co-Produced Channel 7s Telethon midnight to dawn rockshift. - 1993 2001: performing with Love Machine. Gig highlights: The Final Bindoon Rock Festival & playing the Entertainment Centre for the closing of The World Uni Games. - 1995 starting the wema rock academy with one band, which eventually called themselves Felix and whilst under our guidance they went on to record 2 EPs and the title track from the 1st EP was played daily on mainstream radio and charted nationally. - 2001 present: Playing with Flavor the band - Managing our wema bands including TSTY who are now receiving daily airplay on the East coast. What made you want to become a music teacher? - The joy that I get from knowing that you can help a young person discover that something about themselves, encourage them to be confident enough to believe anything is possible and understand the way the real world of music works is rewarding. It beats working for a living Why do you love working at wema? - I love the fact that most of our staff started as wema students. They are passionate about their music and generous in sharing that passion with their students. It is an honour to work with such genuine people and their sense of humour is almost as good as mine
