17.01.2022 Some of you might remember that Chad and I started a charitity at the end of last year called AVID--A Vision in Darkness. Our web page is avid.golf, so if you'...re interested, you can check us out there while we are still under construction. We have already started working with blind children, though, and here's a little video of our first work with nine fabulous children from The Tennessee School for the Blind. The Kentucky School for the Blind has now expressed interest in our getting a program going there to work with their children, so we might be able to get a tournament between the two schools on the books for next year! Take a peek at our video as we take our first steps working with the children!! I cannot tell you how it blessed all of us who were there! See more
17.01.2022 Today's Perron Institute Hole in One event at Wembley Golf Course was a success with 40 participants all vying for the major $100,000 prize. Unfortunately, the ...big prize didn't go off but we had some close-hitters with Peter Bennett taking out the prize of 'Nearest to the Pin'. Thanks to everyone for their enthusiasm and support and for making this such a fun event. Our appreciation goes out to the team at Wembley Golf Course, our marshals, camera crew, sponsors, volunteers and of course, all of our participants. We would also like to thank the Town of Cambridge and Telethon7 Perth for helping to make this event possible. We hope to see you all again next year! 14.01.2022 OMNIA Omni-Sense White Cane Tip Pointing In The Right Direction A new, innovative, white cane tip has entered the assistive technology market to provide an improved day-to-day ambulatory experience for users of white-canes familiar with constant-contact techniques, improving sensory feedback and durability. Australian omni-wheel manufacturer Omnia developed the OMNI-SENSE after Ian Edwards, The Blind Chef, spoke with Tim Strube, Omnia Business Development manager, about is...sues he experienced with traditional ball tips, such as short-lived durability and lack of sensory awareness. By design, Omnia’s omni-wheels, which provide fluid 360 degree movement, made perfect sense for a white cane tip, with the potential to offer freer drive and less resistance than conventional ball tips. With the aid of Ian’s frank and objective feedback, Omnia developed a white cane tip which makes different sounds on different surfaces and is principally moved across the ground, letting the user know exactly where they are at all times. The high-grade 100% polymer construction means it is hard wearing and won’t corrode and can even be cleaned in the dishwasher. Ian used the Omni-Sense on his recent appearance on Channel 10’s ‘The Living Room’ and speaks highly of the new white-cane tips benefits: I found it has great sensory qualities. It has great auditory feedback. It is easy to use and if you’re changing over from a standard cane it’s perfect - there is no new learning. The Omni-sense is much more durable; the other type of tips wear out very easily, and this one is so hardy, it doesn’t wear at all. It’s definitely the one I will stick with, I wouldn’t go back to the older cane tips. The assistive technology space is a natural arena for the omni-wheel, not only for visual impairment aids but in other applications such as wheelchairs, gurneys and many other devices which use wheels. Omnia Business Development Manager Tim Strube, who worked closely with Ian Edwards on the development of the Omni-Sense commented; I’m excited to be launching this product and happy by the positive feedback we have received from those who have already been using it. Working with The Blind Chef was a real treat as he provided valuable insight in a very frank manner. The OMNI-SENSE is robust, delivering audio and tactile feedback that has helped improve his mobility while making navigation easier. Thursday 15th October 2020 marks International White Cane Day which celebrates the achievements of people who are blind or visually impaired. Omnia will be participating in by supporting Vision Australia with their annual, extended radio show running from 10am to 2pm. The Omni-Sense is available to purchase now from https://www.rotacaster.com.au/shop/omni-sense/index
