23.01.2022 When families get a new puppy its an exciting time while the puppy starts life away from his or her littermates and it can take a week or two to settle in. In the perfect world we could all stay home all day with young puppies but the reality is most families have work and school during the day and it can be difficult to travel home from work at lunchtime. If you are not able to come home at lunchtime to check on the puppy we provide a low cost puppy visit service where we c...ome to your home during the middle of the day and can check on your puppy give them their midday feed, attention and if housed inside while you are away take them outside for a short time in the back yard. Once clear of vaccinations the puppy visit can include a short walk (incl short basic training session sit, drop, stand etc as you would be learning at puppy obedience classes each week which is recommended to be practiced in brief sessions at home between classes). Puppy visit only $15 Puppy visit incl short walk/training $25 Older dogs At the other end of the scale often when pets get older they start to have other issues such as unable to hold on if inside on hot or cold days and need an outside break during the day. Or you may just feel more at ease if your old dog is starting to have mobility issues and can get themselves stuck on slippery floors and just need a hand to get back on carpet, bedding etc. As with the young puppies mentioned about we offer a service to just check in on older dogs for a low cost for your peace of mind. Includes feeding/incontinence clean up as required. Older dog visit only $15

16.01.2022 Did you know that all public places other than a park / reserve are dog on lead areas within South Australia? Reserves and paths within those reserves howev...er are different and are declared so by way of Council By-laws. It's important to remember when walking along the footpaths that run along our coast that your dog is still required to be on a lead. These spaces are shared by bikes, pedestrians, children and dogs alike so please for the safety of others and your dog ensure your dog is on a lead not exceeding 2m in length. For more information on dog on and off lead areas within Charles Sturt please see https://www.charlessturt.sa.gov.au/services/pets-and-animal-management/dogs/dog-on-and-off-lead-areas See more

15.01.2022 Does your dog enjoy playing ball on the beach? We know that most dogs love to chase and at times return the ball, stick or frisbee that their caring owner has... thrown for them. We also know that it can be very hard to concentrate on that ball while also looking ahead for the possible sandcastle, small child, towel or another dog that may be in the way. Apart from possible injury to not only your dog and others it can also cause a bit of annoyance on a crowded beach to other beach goers no matter how small or cute our K9 friend may be. Please remember ball games on the beach do not equal effective control if used with a ball launcher or thrown at vary large distances. Ball games should be limited to off lead times and at short distances when you are confident your dog has practised and mastered recall. Share a picture in the comments of your dog enjoying the beach safely! For more information on dog safety and the importance of effective control and leash laws please see https://www.charlessturt.sa.gov.au//why-does-my-dog-need-t

11.01.2022 In addition to our normal walking service we offer a package for senior owners which includes basic grooming and for regular clients transport to vet/groomers/etc as requested. Pets especially dogs offer companionship and security for senior members of society but owners can often have their own issues which make it harder to walk dogs even a few times a week or handle finer hand movements involved in grooming. Not to mention handling a dog to get in and out of the car or lifting small crates when being transported. We can tailor a package that can include walking and basic grooming on a weekly basis as needed. Pricing will be discussed according to requirements.

09.01.2022 Can my dog eat that? Are you aware of some of the potential doggy dangers out there? We've compiled a quick list for you below. This list is not complete but th...ese are just a few of the hazards we find people forget about or are not aware of. (1) Grapes, sultanas, and raisins: induce kidney failure in some dogs (2)Macadamia nuts: cause weakness, vomiting, and diarrhoea (3) Avocados: lead to a stomach upset and the pip can also cause an obstruction if ingested (4) Onions, leeks, garlic, and chives: ingestion leads to destruction of red blood cells (5) Chewing gum: contains Xylitol and this can cause weakness and seizures (6) Corn on the cob: the corn might be digested, but the cob may lodge in the small intestine causing a blockage (7) Chocolate: you've probably heard this before, but remember chocolate is toxic to dogs and ingestion of just a small amount can be fatal cooking chocolate and dark chocolate are the most dangerous (8) Rodent bait: can lead to blood clotting problems 3-14 days after ingestion (9) Stockings, undies, socks: are all attractive to dogs and can cause a nasty intestinal obstruction Has your dog ingested something? Phone us for advice.

07.01.2022 Dog walks are essential for dogs to give them the chance to exercise each day and helps stop destructive behaviour in your yard & home. 03.01.2022 Why does my dog need to be on a lead? This is a question Charles Sturt officers get asked a lot. Often dog owners feel the by-laws are unnecessary because thei...r dog is friendly and well trained or small or old or needs to toilet or is a puppy that needs to learn and socialise Weve heard them all. In fact, were sure Its okay, hes friendly are words every dog owner has heard on their walks, or perhaps yelled in haste as their own dog approaches another person or dog in the distance. The phrase is usually well intentioned - designed to reduce any worry the other person might feel about being approached by an unknown dog. But it misses one small and incredibly important concept its not about your dog at all! For more information on good leash etiquette and how it helps everyone in our community feel safe please see our new Dog Blog article - Why does my dog need to be on a lead? https://www.charlessturt.sa.gov.au//pets-and/dogs/dog-blog
