24.01.2022 This time of year one of the most important things to consider is feeding your broodmares and yearlings. MILNE FEEDS are not only a sponsor of WASBA, but also produce some fantastic products for broodmares and young horses in their PEGASUS line of products. These products are made here in WA for WA soil conditions and are used by some of the best thoroughbred studs in WA, with good reason. Make sure you give your broodmares and young stock the quality products they need to get the best results on the track.

23.01.2022 Its the $30,000 2 yr old fillies Gold Bracelet, and when JUST FOR LOVE crossed the line four metres in front of a fast finishing Lady Bella Anne, a very happy part owner Katie Howlett was trembling with excitement. Katie almost couldnt believe her filly had won. Rated perfectly by Jocelyn Young, JUST FOR LOVE cruised from the top of the straight to the line in 29.3 and 28.1. Jocelyn is making a habit of winning these all girls features and she added the Gold Bracelet to h...er Oaks winning drive on Has No Fear and her win with Blockjorg in the 3 yr old Fillies Diamond. For Katie, the win with JUST FOR LOVE followed up her nice second last week to Black Jack Baby in the $80,000 2 Yr Old Fillies Westbred Classic. She certainly benefitted from that run and could have gone faster in the Bracelet and won by more, but for no purpose. JUST FOR LOVE was purchased by the Howletts at the 2019 APG Sale and she is from the successful Steve Johnson consignment. By Mach Three out of six time winning mare Harper Grace, she was a bargain at $17,000 and has already won $41,713 plus whatever Westbred bonus money she has also earned. The Howlett family put a huge amount of effort and horses into our industry with those they breed at home , plus buy in WA and New Zealand, so they deserve every success that comes their way. This time Katie and Jimmy are in the ownership so that is really nice, and Im sure Katies gorgeous smile will still be there despite the hours and miles to travel. Congratulations JUST FOR LOVE and Barry, Katie and Jimmy Howlett. See more

23.01.2022 VERY LATEST NEWS on GP - Following Friday night’s interrupted race meeting at Gloucester Park, RWWA's General Manager Racing - Charlotte Mills has issued a statement, parts of which are shown here. Follow the link for the full statement: Due to a Transformer fault on the premises of Gloucester Park, a power outage caused races 8 to 11 to be abandoned. The Transformer is owned, operated and maintained by Western Power. Western Power are continuing to work on remedying the Tr...ansformer fault as a priority. Based on Western Power’s advice in the coming 24hrs we will advise industry as to the status of Tuesday’s scheduled meeting at Gloucester Park. RWWA is not launching an urgent investigation, nor are we asking questions of Gloucester Park management. RWWA is fully cognisant of Friday’s power outage being a third-party concern, which is of great frustration to all stakeholders. Both RWWA and Gloucester Park are extremely disappointed to lose any races on the card, particularly in the midst of our Feature race period. https://www.rwwa.com.au/blog/gloucester-park-update/

22.01.2022 The usual focus after a 2YO Sales Classic win is the horse- but last night there were so many side stories to the win of bold striding filly LADY JADORE by Tintin In America out of High Rolla. LADY JADORE was one of two runners that owner trainer Annie Belton qualified for the $100,000 Final, the other was ADORE ME SOME MORE also by TINTIN IN America, and both of those runners plus 4th placegetter Foxy Rose were bred and sold by John Coffey (Patrician Park), and then there ar...e all the Belton girls and Oscar, and the fact that Annie Belton and the clan quinelled the race, and they only paid $5,000 for LADY JADORE at last years APG Sale. Overall its easy though, the win belongs to Annie and husband Colins ability to pick out these big bold fillies as yearlings given Annie has had really good success with past sale purchases - DIOR MIA MORE (also by Tintin In America) and LADY DE LA RENTA now in USA. LADY JADORE driven by Aldo Cortopassi, already has great maturity and her win was in the end, relatively easy with stablemate Adore Me Some More finishing fast driven by Chris Lewis but never really likely to win. The win is special given all the girls are part of the ownership and Dee Beltons son Oscar is already a harness enthusiast bidding last year at the Sales and practising receiving trophies this year! The Sales Classic races are also about breeders and actual yearling sales - Tintin in America who is by Mcardle only has 71 foals of racing age and the crop for Annies two fillies was only 10 foals. But the remarkable stat for this stallion is that there are 38 starters in that 71 of racing age and that is really good. Plus remember he is the sire of the best filly/mare to leave NZ for USA SHARTIN who has won in excess of $2.2 million and in the past few days was named US Horse of the YEAR 2019. Shartin has become the first pacing mare to win the US Horse of the Year title, as well as the first horse bred outside North America to win the top award! Massive accolades and congratulations to Annie and Colin on their yearling selections and their care and training of their fillies! See more

21.01.2022 The late Harry Capararo would have had a fabulous night Friday week ago being the breeder of two of the juvenile Classics winners. The first being BLUE CHIP ADDA who won the big Group 1 Allwood Stud Farm 3 yr old Fillies Westbred Classic and then at race 10 the winning gelding for the WestSired horses in POWERPLAY trained by Debra Lewis and driven by Chris Lewis. For Aiden De Campo, this year has been pretty hectic as a trainer/driver of a full team, and Friday week ago was r...eally pleasing to get his first Group 1 as a trainer. BLUE CHIP ADDA who is by Heston Blue Chip out of Adda Rising Star recorded her third straight win last Friday, but more important than a treble, is that the race was an $80,000 Group 1. BLUE CHIP ADDA had only 3 starts as a two year old for two thirds. Her record now is 6 wins four seconds and 1 third. So Harry Capararo would be proud as punch to have bred this Group 1 winner and additionally the fact that the filly was from his mare BLUE CHIP ADDA by his own stallion Rich And Spoilt. She won $184,607 in her career of 16 wins and 27 places when trained by Frank Bonnett. For Aiden taking over the training duties of his father's stable ten months ago was pretty much thrust upon him, and the learning curve to being responsible for training efforts is distinctly different to merely driving them. Filly BLUE CHIP ADDA was already in the stable when Aiden took over and he is appreciative that managing owner Robbie Tomlinson was happy to leave the filly with him. Aiden has said times have been stressful in that regard, and he understands and appreciates a lot more the efforts of trainers around the State, saying it is a hard game and can be very much up and down. BLUE CHIP ADDA makes those long drives home a little bit easier. Congratulations to all. See more

21.01.2022 MIGHTY RONALDO for Justin Prentice trainer/driver/part owner was the mighty big winner of the 2020 Group 1 Golden Slipper last Friday. This years Golden Slipper had overall one of the best fields of 2 yr olds seen in WA. No absolute super star, but twelve very high quality two year olds with little separating them in any field, apart from barrier. So MIGHTY RONALDO for Justin Prentice was a $30 chance and therefore for most punters a surprise winner from barrier 9. He shou...ldnt have been a surprise though, as he was the fastest finishing horse to run second in the 2 yr old Westbred Classic at his last start and was dragged to the back of the field by tiring horses in his previous start in the Pearl. MIGHTY RONALDO is owned by G A Mortimer, J K Prentice, J A Lohman, Brennan Family Racing Syndicate, G S Thorn, R Fitzgerald, B L Jones, Hillbillies Syndicate, A D Vallis, T Florio. This group of people are some of the many devoted stable followers of Justin Prentice. The past few years Justin has won at least one Group 1 juvenile event to become known as king of the kids and this year that group of owners especially Rod and Sue Brennan and family, Angelo Vallis, Tony Florio, John Lohman and Glen Mortimer and wife never stopped believing in Justin and their horse winning. Justin believed this horse was one of his best opportunities ever, for a Golden Slipper! Drawing barrier 9 and with Gary Hall jnr taking another drive, Justin had the drive on MIGHTY RONALDO and he went back to last and then sat 4 back the fence. There was speed on with quarters in 28.8; 28.8; 28.4 and when MIGHTY RONALDO pulled out four and five wide having spent no energy at all, no horse could match his speed down the straight and he became an easy winner by 4.4 metres with an almighty salute by Justin. MIGHTY RONALDO was picked out by Justin at the 2019 APG Sale and he paid $22,000 for the colt by Alta Christiano out of Millwoods Delight a Bettors Delight mare. The colt was bred and sold by Trevor Lindsay. At that sale, he was the only Alta Christiano in the sale and was relatively cheap at $22k. Not so this year when Kevin Jeavons paid $70,000 for one and Justin paid $56,000 for another. But by this years Sale Justin knew how good MIGHTY RONALDO was and he is right. It is Justins birthday this weekend (Sunday) and a better early Birthday present he couldnt have asked for. Congratulations Justin on your great training efforts and your drive in the Slipper, and to all your stable staff and all owners. No group celebrates like them so massive congratulations all. 20.01.2022 The Stallion Raffle prizes were drawn last night at Gloucester Park with President Jeanine Diederich and Howard King Vice President/ Treasurer, Gino Monaco from GP Committee assisted with the draw. Thank you to everyone who purchased a ticket and made this a great fundraiser for WASBA, where all our funds go back to the industry to subsidize prizemoney in our sponsored races, assist re-homers, provide for trophies rugs, garlands and sashes etc. The winner was -- Zoe Ellis with ticket 157; second prize was Colin Belton with ticket number 072; third prize was Shane Hawes with ticket 141 and fourth prize was Tim Blee with ticket 019. Thanks again.

20.01.2022 The big feature for last Friday was the WASBA 4 and 5 Yr Old Group 3 Mares Pace. This was an open race, with our winner being a Double Westbred mare MY PRAYER who defeated Starlight Destiny NZ by a head with Nowuseemesmile third. MY PRAYER was bred by Mike Hacketts Global Breeding Farm and is trained by Barry Howlett and owned by Barry, Lynley and Jimmy Howlett. This now Group 3 winner is by Renaissance Man out of Mystery Oro and was purchased for $9,000 by Barry Howlett... at the 2017 APG Yearling Sale with Global Breeding Farms the vendor. MY PRAYER won her first race at Pinjarra as a 3 yr old and now has 6 wins and 15 places. This Feature Mares race had similarity to last Friday when MY PRAYER and Starlight Destiny fought out a GP mares race with Starlight Destiny winning by a short half head. But this week had some differences with Starlight Destiny having to do a lead time of 36.7 compared to 38.9 last week. That early bustle told in the run to the line when Colin Brown got off the fence with MY PRAYER, to win by a short half head in 1.56.2 compared to last week 1.58.9. Colin Brown was pretty pleased with himself- his first drive for Barry Howlett, so he had to do a stalls walk to find his horse! Then he got a bit of a photo opportunity with the on track presentation of the WABA trophy to Lynley Howlett. A pretty good catch drive I think! This race was MY PRAYERs second trophy win and both have been WASBA sponsored! MY PRAYER has performed really well in a number of features without winning, 3rd in the Diamond Classic, 2nd in the WestSired Classic, 4th in the Westbred Classic all at 2 years. At 3 years MY PRAYER - 2nd in the Fillies Sales Classic, was 2nd in the Westbred 4 & 5 yr old Classic to stablemate DANCING WITH MACH. Her trophy or sash wins were the WASBA Country Oaks at Bunbury and the 3 yr old Fillies WestSired at GP. The Howlett family with Barry, Lynley, Jimmy and Katie are passionate supporters of our harness industry. They have extensive breeding numbers and look to all and any sires, and they are also supporters of many yearling sales. This WASBA race absolutely fits with their activities and Barry, Lynley, and Jimmy plus Katie are more than very worthy winners of this race. It is always a pleasure seeing them excited with their wins and especially their fillies and mares. Congratulations See more

20.01.2022 BLACK JACK BABY. Sometimes when you have a very short priced favourite in a feature Classic it can rob the race of enthusiasm, but I do not believe that was the case with BLACK JACK BABY last night in the 2 yr old Fillies Westbred Classic. BLACK JACK BABY won the WestSired the week before and the question was, with the addition of many more quality fillies can she do it again? Answer YES. In fact BLACK JACK BABY added more intrigue with a 26.6 last quarter on a slippery track... and with the ear plugs in not sure driver Chris Voak needed to do anything, apart from hang on! She seems to have an effortless fluid gait almost beyond what a 7 start 2 yr old could have. BLACK JACK BABY is by Follow The Stars and last nights Classic was called The Allwood Stud Farm 2 yr Old Fillies Westbred Classic, and with Allwood Stud where Follow The Stars stands, BLACK JACK BABY very quickly can become their pinup girl! She is out of McArdle mare What A Card. Shane Quadrio has been a little quiet in the industry up to know while concentrating on business, but this filly is a massive step back into the fray with Shane breeding, owning and training the baby. In all likelihood she will go for the Golden Slipper against the boys on 10th July, but there is the 2 yr Old Fillies Gold Bracelet on next week -- 3 July. If you didnt want to risk three weeks in a row I think maybe the Slipper at $100K trumps the Bracelet at $30k! BLACK JACK BABY is a really good sized filly who looks strong and robust and shes not losing any weight etc running these races. She seems pretty chilled out in the stalls so life looks like its easy for her. Shane and son Dylan Quadrio are as proud as any people could be when you breed and train such nice horses. Congratulations BLACK JACK BABY and Shane Quadrio and family for breeding this lovely filly go the Baby! See more

18.01.2022 A couple of weeks ago at GP was the Kerry Clarke 4 & 5 yr old Pace for Westbreds only, a race to reward Westbreds that are so fundamental to our racing product, with a trophy presentation on track by WASBA President Jeanine Diederich. It was a spectacular race with ROCK ME OVER trained by Matt Scott and driven by Shannon Suvaljko and WHILE THEY PRAY trained by Michael George and driven by Gary Hall jnr going hammer and tong 20+ metres in front of the rest of the field. Eve...ryone was waiting for either and both to weaken badly. But No! You can see in the photo "little" ROCK ME OVER is still running hard with the bigger WHILE THEY PRAY sitting outside. Eventually there was 2.9m between the winner WHILE THEY PRAY and a very game Rock Me Over, with third place 8+ metres away and that was Pierre Whitby who drew barrier one and played the role of leading the rest of the field. The mile rate was a very fast 1.55.1. WHILE THEY PRAY has his quirks and Michael George is doing a really good training job with him. The rewards are winning just over $87,000 this season, and the four year old gelding by Alta Christiano has a really bright future. Michael George and Prue George were both very excited to receive the lovely trophy from WASBA and the race was a very classy representation of our Westbred product. Kerry Clarke would have been very proud. Congratulations all! See more

Participants who have be...en issued with a Letter of Authority to Travel by RWWA are still able to use this documentation to support their approved travel. However, applying for a G2G PASS will help to ensure participants are able to move through checkpoints more quickly and without any issues. 17.01.2022 SPPHAWA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS GOODLUCK this weekend to all our beautiful Standardbred competitors and the Committee - Leonie Morrone, for the gold and glitter at the 20th State Championships. Hope the weather holds out for you at Wallangarra Horse & Pony Club grounds.

17.01.2022 After the "surprise" decision of the AFL to abandon the season until May 31 (the announcement was based around "financial crisis" rather than health), and the Press Conference by the PM, it is extremely comforting and very pleasing that on this Sunday afternoon RWWA has quickly issued a statement supporting the continuation of all three racing codes in WA. RWWA had already put in place travel restrictions for officials and participants starting Mon 23. Please read the following statement and ensure you follow the link in the statement which outlines what is happening in your own state WA

17.01.2022 One WEEK to go COB Monday September 7th for our STALLION TENDER. Your chance to get a really reduced Stallion Fee from a great selection of SIRES. http://www.wasba.com.au//20/WASBA_2020_Stallion_tender.pdf

17.01.2022 Its very heart-warming to see the wonderful photos and stories coming to us from the recent SPPHAWA State Championships. Alex Markowski and Vallentino had worked hard and had a brilliant day taking home six classes. We did say before, that we are grateful the Championships took place just before the outdoors shutdown. Especially given the work Leonie Morrone and her committee had put into it, plus all the competitors work for months with their horses. Alex and Vallentino had... a massively good day as seen in these photos and their results were; Champion Led Gelding- Leather halter sponsored by Team Bond Reserve Best Presented- Voucher sponsored by LP Designs Champion WA Bred Champion Show Horse Champion Intermediate Ridden- Sponsored by SPPHAWA Hi Point Performer- highest placed pure bred over the weekend for led & ridden classes- Cash prize sponsored by WASBA. Vallentino had his first show a couple of years ago and is gradually moving his way very successfully through the classes, with all the effort worth it. Congratulations Alex on a great State Championship and for all your care with Vallentino. For interest ; Vallentino didnt race as he was injured as a young horse- luckily he found his way to a great owner in Alex. He is by Elsu out of Parsons Clothes. I wondered where that beautiful big blaze might have come from and the pedigree lines show the dam Parsons Clothes is out of Fashion Statement by New York Motoring Sire Elsus dam is by New York Motoring so both sides of the pedigree have New York Motoring quite close up. Why does that matter New York Motorings dam is by Shadow Wave and he had a huge white blaze and four long white stockings. Elsu also inherited the white blaze. Thanks Sherri Wightman for the photos See more

16.01.2022 WASBA/ALLWOOD STUD VIRGIL QUEEN CELEBRATION WESTBRED MARES PACE It was a good field for this sponsored race at Northam on 1st Aug, with $14,000 in stakemoney plus rug, garland and trophy to the winner. NEWSLETTER was favourite from barrier 2, but Tiffany Twirl, Pamy June and Yo Te Amo Haitch were all on the second line of betting. NEWSLETTER went straight to the lead from the start but was challenged for some time by Tiffany Twirl who eventually ended the challenge and breez...ed. Yo Te Amo Haitch and Kirsten also came around for a look at the lead so there was considerable pressure put to NEWSLETTER driven by Dylan Egerton-Green for breeder/trainer Mike Howie. There was an expectation that NEWSLETTER would falter in the straight after all her pressure - she didn't, and she actually sprinted away to win by 6.7m. NEWSLETTER is the first foal of Live Or Die mare MY KILLARNEY MISS and she is by Sportswriter who has always been able to sire nice juveniles. That was her second win from four starts this year and she looks set for more. Mike Howie was thrilled with his Trophy, Rug and Garland that he received from WASBA President Jeanine Diederich. He said he couldn't remember the last time he raced at Northam, usually only venturing to Pinjarra, GP and Bunbury from his Serpentine base, but this was an excellent way to get re-acquainted with the Northam track, by taking out a feature - so the big smiles! A big trophy giving weekend for Jeanine after GP on the Friday. See more

13.01.2022 Fantastic to read that the "BREEDING" part of the breeding season has begun with Lisa Adams at Lancefield Park Stud receiving "chilled" semen from the ES and on time!

12.01.2022 Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) will be hosting the final harness outreach session at the Byford Trotting Training Complex on Thursday 5 November, from 1pm to 3pm. The session will cover a range of topics including an overview of the harness strategic plan, code performance, distribution, infrastructure, welfare initiatives, privatisation, WA TAB updates and industry perception survey results. If you plan on attending but have yet to confirm, please contact the club or RWWA so that they can accommodate everyone on the day

11.01.2022 Foals are being born and mares ready to serve - an exciting time of the year. Most studs are ready for semen transport but some stallions only came out of quarantine very recently so there may be a slight delay making sure they have settled into their new surroundings. We are aware that a couple of ES couriers are working extremely hard this year to make this process work with border closures etc due to COVID -19. Attached info from WOODLANDS STUD NZ & Aus: ALABAR and YIRRABEE. Check their websites and make sure you have everything in place for your mare.

11.01.2022 At our recent Awards function RENAISSANCE MAN was AWARDED WA 3yr old Stallion of the Year from only 10 starters he had 7 winners! We are still racing, and now is a good time to consider these weanlings and yearlings. Ring Mike Hackett on 0423 703779. Global Breeding Farms

11.01.2022 There's a couple of touches of family about the Westbred and WestSired races these past two weeks and the Brown family have featured heavily. The biggest achievement was last night when Maddison Brown drove her first Group 1 winner being LONGREACH BAY in the $80,000 Westbred 3yr Old Colts & Geldings feature. It was also trainer Peter Kings biggest win as a trainer! Last week when Maddison drove LONGREACH BAY she led all the way in a well judged race, just taking the stin...g out of the field with a 28.1 third qrtr. LONGREACH BAY is by Renaissance Man and a half brother to Cott Beach and it seems LONGREACH BAY has similar talent, but he has also been quite unruly and difficult to control at times. This week in the big $80,000 race, LONGREACH BAY drew barrier 2 and Maddison held the front quite easily crossing Dad Colin on the CD Brown trained Adda Pocket Rinse. Maddison actually did the same again in the third qrt rating 27.9, and she had the field struggling enough for LONGREACH BAY to win by a head. Although a short margin, he did not look like he would lose. For a junior concession driver like Maddison who is still probably only "jockey weight" she did a super job driving this horse for the first and second time in pressured feature races. Congratulations Maddison. For trainer Peter King, last weeks win probably only put more pressure and nerves into the race this week, because he had become a real contender! Peter part owns LONGREACH BAY with partner Barbara Pellick and son Michael. Peter was always assisting Kristy Elson and her dad Gary with some stable work and when Gary late last year had a knee reconstruction, LONGREACH BAY went to Shane Young for a period and then Peter. In the case of this horse, COVID-19 has played a beneficial role by allowing long term Alcoa worker Peter to work from home and therefore have the time in daylight hours to work the horse. Peter is thoroughly enjoying his new vocation, and getting a Group 1 winner so early in his training career only means he wants more. By the way Dad Colin also drove a feature winner last week when FIFTY FIVE REBORN also by Renaissance Man won the 3yr old WestSired Fillies feature and keeping it in the family with wife/Mum Lyn Brown a part owner, this filly now has 6 wins and 2 places and just over $72,000 in stakemoney. Congratulations Maddison Brown, Peter King and Barbara Pellick and Colin Brown See more

10.01.2022 Fantastic for WA. We need to make sure we follow ALL the bio-security protocols set for racing. ie those who can attend: correct measures for staff and follow all the hygiene rules and social distancing when not at the track. Everyone STAY very safe and we can keep racing!

08.01.2022 There has been a bit of drama the past few years with the WASBA COUNTRY OAKS, more around weather and tracks though rather than something like COVID-19 which means that we are unable to attend one of the special races of the year that is sponsored by WASBA. Bunbury Trotting Club and Julie have always made this a special night and this year it is sad not to be there. However, the field is a super one with SUING YOU Justin Prentice/ Gary Hall jnr br 2: recent impressive winner ...PRINCESS CHRISTIANO Gary Hall Snr/Maddison Brown br 3: recent winner MISSTIANO Ian Foley/Nathan Turvey br 5: SPORTS PACKAGE Terry Ferguson/Shane Young br1: BLOCKJORG Colin Reeves/Jocelyn Young br 10. Good luck to all runners this weekend, it is an important race on the Fillies calendar and WASBA will catch up with the COUNTRY OAKS winner and Bunbury Trotting Club as soon as we are able. See more

05.01.2022 Weve already posted about the amazing 2YO Sales Classic for Fillies and now for the boys and there was no less emotion and excitement for this race which again had very special moments. There was not much in the betting between three of the boys and some might think OK second favourite TALKS UP A STORM trained by Murray Lindau won! But, it was exciting from the getgo- TALKS UP A STORM pretty much hooned out from barrier 5, and while it was thought he would be up there that... quick though? TALKS UP A STORM driven by Dylan Egerton-Green then rated 28.2 for the first qtr which would almost bring most 2 yr old undone especially when theres a tough battle yet to be won. But this horse was remarkable doing 28.7 third and fourth qtr to win easily by 7 metres and to run a race record 1.56.2. Murray Lindau has been around the harness industry all his life with father Darcy and Uncle Lyle but this was his FIRST Group 1, and was a belief and dream come true. Even more so for owner partner Claire McNaughton whos not the quickest onto the track with her motorised wheelchair, but, it and she and that essential helper are still pretty formidable in getting there in a hurry to greet her lovely horse and of course Dylan. The training group with Colin Brown, Dylan and Murray plus a couple of other essential people have a great understanding and care for each other in the preparation of their horses and assistance to each other at home and the track. It is one of the great things about our industry. The exhilaration and happiness shared by Claire, Murray, Dylan and families was so wonderful to see on the night. TALKS UP A STORM is by Artspeak out of Typhoon Tan and was a $22,000 purchase at last years sale. Massive congratulations to Claire and Sylvie Lindau owners and Murray and Dylan and we know you did venture out on Sunday and purchase another yearling so we cant wait for next years version. 04.01.2022 We know there is a lot of info going around, but we are publishing these excerpts so you can see what is also happening behind the scenes to keep Racing going. The below excerpts are part of an Open Letter from Racing Australia (RA) to Thoroughbred participants- In the big picture, Harness Racing is a small player and is in effect being supported through the actions of RA. Racing Australia is the organisation that can fight to keep Racing going, no-one else can be as effecti...Continue reading

04.01.2022 This is what happened two weeks ago and he’s done it again THE LAST DROP won his second consecutive race. They Josh Dunn and Kristy Sheehy certainly hoped Friday week ago wouldn’t be their last drop with Merlot, but Kristy especially, was mighty pleased when Shannon Suvaljko crossed the line first in the first, with 4 year old Westbred gelding THE LAST DROP. This horse bred by Allwood Stud, was previously trained by Ross Olivieri for owner Bob Fowler, and he finished hi...s last campaign for Bob and Ross in February 2020. Next time we see him is at trials in July and then racing at Northam on 1 August for Kristy and her partner and trainer Josh Dunn. The horse ran 9th. The Sheehy’s have always been involved with horses in WA since forever, so it was very likely that Kristy would get involved, and a few years ago Kristy was doing a reasonable amount of driving in races. So much so that at the 2017 Interdominion Final night Kristy had the honour of being one of the drivers chosen for the Invitation Ladies Drivers Race From memory the drivers were randomly drawn and Kristy drew Bettor Bling (Callan Suvaljko) and finished second in the event to Kiara Davies driving Dior Mia More (Annie Belton) with Madam Meilland (Ross Olivieri) and Jocelyn Young third. That race almost three years ago had a mile rate of 1.55.7 with Kristy second by 1.6m. Back to now, Josh, Kristy and Merlot (THE LAST DROP) should still have more to come. That was only Merlot's 7th start for the pair and he is only a five year old. (four years in this NEW terminology). THE LAST DROP has won about $28,000 in his 7 starts for Josh and Kristy, so they are really happy. Congratulations all with two great drives from Shannon Suvaljko! See more

03.01.2022 BREEDING ANNOUNCEMENT HRA - Stallion Limits HRA have only just announced that there will be a limit on the number of mares any stallion can serve in Australia this coming season. The limit is 150 including Free Returns, but there are some representations from Studs and organisations reference the Free Returns. Many believe they should not be included in the season limit of 150. All Breeders will need to book early as new stallion Captain Crunch was fully booked before his adv...ertising emails hit all laptops phones and computers! Art Major is also now listed as fully booked, as is Roll With Joe. Although all studs are advising to still book and be on a reserve list as they will be confirming all Breeders true intentions! In the past being fully booked would only happen in early September. So you will need to get studying those pedigree lines and do some calling. Below is the announcement as put out by HRA Stallion Limits The total mares bred to a stallion registered in Australia, regardless of method used, in any given breeding season shall not exceed 150, including free returns from previous seasons. No foal will be registered from a service performed beyond this limit. A person who fails to comply with this rule is guilty of an offence Dead, Disappeared or Gelded Stallions The use of semen from a dead or disappeared stallion, or one that has been gelded, is forbidden beyond the end of breeding season following his death or disappearance or date of gelding. A provision will be allowed to grandfather a Registered Standardbred that is dead or disappeared, or one that has been gelded prior to 1 September 2020. No foal may be registered for an insemination performed beyond this time limit with the exception of a free return to the same broodmare in the second breeding season after death. A person who fails to comply with this rule is guilty of an offence. See more

02.01.2022 SPPHAWA State Championships March 2020 Standardbred Pleasure & Performance Horse Association of WA Inc. This was basically the last event to begin and end before the close down of all such gatherings (COVID - 19), and so lucky for all the effort that this Volunteer Committee goes to, headed up by a massively hard working Leonie Morrone. It's fantastic to see our beautiful standardbreds looked after so well and looking just superb!. One of the big winner's on the day was Kerr...yn Davey and her message was: A big thank you to Nicole Zilko Equissage WA, WASBA the SPPHAWA for your generous sponsorship of the 2020 Standard State Championship. Without your support events like these wouldn't go ahead. George and I were lucky enough to win Champion Rider, Champion Open Hack and Supreme Ridden Hack. Thanks to everyone who made the event happen and everyone who attended and completed. These photos are from Sherri Wightman and the owner Kerryn Davey has purchased them and given WASBA permission to use them. Brilliant - Thanks. See more

01.01.2022 More from the SPPHAWA State Championships March 2020. This is Paddy with Samantha Jayne Spurr and he made his show debut in a State Championship! Paddy is only just 3 yrs old so is both new and very young for the show world, and Samantha does not yet have much experience either, but is full of enthusiasm and was hoping to do lots of shows this year and maybe get some sponsorship - Another thing COVID has quashed! Paddy as a skewbald is fairly unique and he does look pretty s...pecial - can't be easy keeping all that white clean though! Paddy did win several ribbons and both horse and handler are likely to have some great events togethe,r and create great interest for our marvellous standardbreds. Paddy is named DHARMA PARK WILDCARD and is by Flying Jaguar out of Cabillo Gris by Jet Laag! Again These photos are from Sherri Wightman and the owner Samantha Jayne Spurr has purchased them and given WASBA permission to use them. Brilliant - Thanks. See more
