24.01.2022 We are honoured to be a part of the impact community for Human Rights Arts and Film Festival's Humankind online film festival next week! . Over seven days, HRAFF will be hosting online screenings for a stellar line-up of Australian and international documentaries. And they are donating the profits from the community supporter tickets to a different social impact organisation each night! . Book a community supporter ticket to 'Dark City Beneath the Beat' on Thursday and yo...u'll be supporting WEYA. It's an incredible audiovisual experience that spotlights local club artists, DJs, dancers, producers, and Baltimore’s budding creative community as they are realizing their life dreams . With a tiered ticketing system and artist performances every night, it's accessible and heaps of bang for your buck! See more
23.01.2022 Reflecting on the wonderful masterclass we had in person two weeks ago with Tamica Wilder. We can't be in a room together yet but we hope that soon we will be! Please remember to be kind to yourselves and each other.
15.01.2022 Throw to last month's screening of the CYT Films at Brimbank's Be Bold Festival with the added bonus of getting to watch Yaw (Sub30 Collective member) performing his phenomenal songs. : Carla Gottgems (first image) & Kimberly Canales-Ascui
15.01.2022 We'll be back together eventually!! But for now we've had to postpone this week's masterclass with Kamarra Bell-Wykes. Unfortunately, the limits on gatherings indoors mean that we can't meet in person, so we are reshuffling our schedule to have Kamarra deliver her masterclass later in the year rather than move online. We are feeling some serious screen fatigue at the moment and think postponement is the best option this week for our artists, our community and our staff. Stay safe, look after each other and we'll see you soon!
13.01.2022 Unfortunately due to the restrictions on indoor gatherings we've had to postpone this week's masterclass with Naomi Velaphi. We're working with Naomi to find other dates later in the year. Hopefully we will be in a room together soon but in the meantime, stay safe and look after each other

06.01.2022 We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Khalid Warsame will be joining us as General Manager Khalid brings a wealth of experience to the team both as an artist and an arts manager, and shares our vision of the next generation of arts and cultural leaders building community, telling stories and thriving in Melbourne’s west. . ... Khalid Warsame is a writer, editor, and arts worker who lives in Footscray. Previously, he was a Co-Director of the National Young Writers Festival and Creative Producer at the Footscray Community Arts Centre. His essays, criticism and fiction have appeared in a number of journals and has recently been anthologised in New Australian Fiction 2019 (KYD), Growing Up African in Australia (Black Inc.), and After Australia (Affirm Press). Occasionally, he makes radio with 3RRR and takes photos.
02.01.2022 Registrations are now open for the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation GOAL Mentoring Program, a FREE 10 week online program for African Australians aged 13-15 living in the Mighty West. This is a fantastic opportunity for future community leaders to stay social (online) during isolation, learn new skills and connect with mentors from the AFL, AFLW and the community. We'd love to see some of our WEYA crew step up for this amazing opportunity. Check out the details below!
