19.01.2022 Two teams of astronomers have made a compelling case in the 33-year-old mystery surrounding Supernova 1987A. Based on observations of the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) and a theoretical follow-up study, the scientists provide new insight for the argument that a neutron star is hiding deep inside the remains of the exploded star. This would be the youngest neutron star known to date.

09.01.2022 In a huge step for science, an international collaboration of X-ray and radio astronomers (including astronomers and alumni from Western Sydney University) have used the latest generation telescopes eRosita and ASKAP to directly detect a 50 million light year-long filament in the cosmic web, which is linking two galaxy clusters.

05.01.2022 Penrith Observatory: Join us for the Pink Supermoon! The moon won't actually be pink. But it will be larger than usual, and we'll be live streaming it on our YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCty3yqjj1KedTzDn7sqzedw) from 7.30pm tomorrow, Wednesday 8 April. Join Ain De Horta, Astronomer in Charge to see live views through the telescope and find out what makes this full moon a pink supermoon even though it wont look pink.... We've had to close down our in-person observing, so we're now trialling live streaming. We can't guarantee there won't be technical glitches, and, of course, we always depend on the weather. Heres hoping for a clear night. You can also get to our YouTube channel from the observatory homepage (just search for `Penrith Observatory').
