19.01.2022 Sara manages the Universitys award-winning Contact Service Centre, and her team are first responders to the Universitys Coronavirus hotline, assisting thousan...ds of students to navigate many changes. On Good Friday, we got a call from a student who was really distressed he was facing eviction, and, to make matters worse, he was told he wasnt getting his bond back. It was upsetting, but seeing our team swing into action was a career highlight. We lined up emergency accommodation options here at the University within an hour. The issue was resolved, thankfully, but knowing our students can turn to us and we can help is everything. If youd told me in January that our team would be running a call centre from our homes and responding to crisis calls, I wouldnt have believed you. But here we are. Usually we deal with student enrolment assistance or parking inquiries. Now were here for students facing hardship, uncertainty and fear. There are so many complex issues, but Ive seen my team lead with their hearts and its so inspiring. Im aware of empathy exhaustion so Im careful not only to debrief from the day but to chat about our dogs, our families general stuff is actually really important, especially now were working remotely. Im a month away from having my second baby, so theres another huge change on the horizon. But despite all of the intensity weve faced, Ive never felt prouder and more connected to my work the challenges can sometimes be overwhelming but the achievements Ive seen and the connections weve made make this time worthwhile. To contact Saras team for support call +61 (0)2 9852 5399 (weekdays, 8am to 5pm) or email [email protected].

08.01.2022 Feed Budgeting 101 Top two questions Ive had this week are: - how do you feed budget? - how do I write a graze plan?... This should answer both those questions, completely unrehearsed, w nose picks for effect! And doing the sums in my head live! You will learn this formula in the RCS Grazing For Profit school. SDH = No of LSU in mob, divided by area of the paddock in Ha, MULTIPLIED by the No of days grazed. SDH = LSU / Ha x Days Once we have feed budgeted how much grass we would like to comfortably graze from each paddock, we then plug that info into a MaiaGrazing Graze Plan. This tells us if our rest period will be adequate and thus if our Stocking Rate is matched to our Carrying Capacity. I could talk all day about Feed Budgeting and Graze Planning, and Im happy to answer any questions. But the one key point is STAY DISCIPLINED! Its such a relief to have plenty of moisture, providing plenty of growth, providing plenty of feed. But dont get slack on these two key fundamentals, or you will get caught short with too many animals and not enough feed! Hope this helps some of you, any questions, please dont hesitate to ask! Thanks to TradeMutt for the Friday shirt! #rcs #maiagrazing #fridayshirt #pickedawinner
