24.01.2022 How many westies on the lounge?

24.01.2022 Thank you to all those that messaged to check on us during these devastating fires around us. We have had evacuations issues twice last week and both times were dangerous and close calls. We stayed with our dogs and animals on the farm and prepared to fight the fires if and when they hit. The closest to date has been 1.5km from us if that. Saturday night and all of yesterday we waited in pitch black darkness for almost 24 hours waiting for the fire to arrive in very poor vis...ibility. Never been in pure darkness at lunchtime! It was scary. Saturday night we could hear the fire coming and it sounded massive. Thankfully the rain fell and we have had a break. Friday however the bad weather is due to strike again and the threat will be real once again. For now we will enjoy the wet and not having to sit up at night watching for spot fires will be wonderful. Here is hoping this is all over soon. The devastation on the coast of NSW is beyond words. It has affected both human and animals. My poor dogs have been so stressed in the conditions. Thanks again everyone we are tired and thought I would quickly update those who have asked sonyou are up to date and know we are safe for now. Thanks for the permission to use this cute pic from the owner. Made me cry to see it and know people and puppies around Australia are thinking of us and others affected this horrific tragedy

23.01.2022 How beautiful is this photo Dougals parents had taken recently of their handsome boy. Thanks so much for sharing.... this has made my day. Credit must go to photographer Mel from A Shot Above The Rest.

19.01.2022 In iso we made a fire pit area from an old chimney we pulled down stuck at home. Finally done and the dogs think it is a wonderful spot to be.

18.01.2022 Hi Everyone! Due to lots of lovely enquiries I am quickly updating everyone on where we are at with our program and puppies.... we will start around June this year and we have a number of people on our waiting list as we havent had puppies for a long while. We may have other litters this year available and be able to help most people out with adding a new baby to their family. I will update litters on here as we have them and happy to take enquiries then for those who ha...ve enquired in the last 12 months and still interested please let us know Enjoy your evening! Sonya and all at WestieParc

18.01.2022 Finally yesterday these little guys got some TLC. It was their turn for a bath and a trim. Life has been different here since the 31st... we have spent our time preparing for the fire to come. So far we have been so lucky. The coast has been burning all around us but we have remained safe even though we were at one point told the fire would be at our doorstep. The poor fur babies have not had their usual attention as we stepped around them and over them and they followed us f...rom job to job lending a hand in preparation. They are probably wondering why we are all of a sudden not giving them the attention they are used to and why life all of a sudden is so much busier. We have had evacuation notices three times since the 1st January. They all come out of their crates After the threat has passed wondering whats this all about Im sure. We can now kick back and enjoy some cool days and catching up. We have been told that until the end of summer we will have days where the fire will be once again a threat to us and it may be that the coast continues to burn until we get enough rain. The fires have been catastrophic this year... lives, homes and many native animals and farm animals lost. We have been so lucky so far and my heart goes out to those who have lost everything. 16.01.2022 PLEASE LEAVE THEM IN THE SHOPS The vast majority of these rawhide products and treats come from China. Their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a... toxic sodium sulphide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white "pure" look and remove the rancid smell. Now comes the pretty festive colours and the glue to form cute shapes. They regularly cause intestinal blockages and choking. The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog. Please be safe with your dogs!

14.01.2022 Our oldest Jock is 12 now so 64 in human years. He can still go and get his own groceries from the shop as he isnt 70 yet and in lockdown. Jock says stay at home and save lives and if you know someone who is 70 plus contact them and ask if they need a hand or you can pop to the shop for them. Take care of our grandmas and grandpas! #stayhome

14.01.2022 HEALTH WARNING: Dogs have been baited in two major Australian cities over the weekend. Heres how you can get control back and prevent your dog from being poiso...ned... One puppy on Sydneys northern beaches and up to twelve dogs in Brisbanes New Farm area were affected when pieces of contaminated meat were scattered in backyards and dog parks. While identifying early warning signs such as vomiting (often containing green or blue pellets), excess salivation and muscle tremors help to avoid disaster, preventing dogs swallowing baits is obviously the best solution. But remember, baits are designed to be appealing. They use fresh meat along with poisons that have pleasant tastes (not named here for obvious reasons) so expect that your dog will want to eat them. Here are your top tips to prevent encounters: - Keep dogs on leashes in suspect areas - Create a blanket rule of no scavenging for park snacks - Learn and use the drop it command - If youre worried your dog has swallowed something suspicious, speak to your vet. One injection can help them bring up the bait quickly before it takes effect.

14.01.2022 For Perth owners...

13.01.2022 We have been sitting with mum since this morning and she has started delivering beautiful strong healthy babies. Far from over yet so we are monitoring her constantly and giving the babies their first colostrum for a nice healthy start. This little one just two minutes old

13.01.2022 Today, March 20, is Westie Day in honour of Col. Edward Douglas Malcolm who died on this day (92 yr) and is credited as creating the breed from a litter of ...white Cairns. Col. Malcom was the 16th Laird of Poltalloch (Scotland) and spent his retirement years hunting and breeding our beloved Westies. 10.01.2022 Enjoying isolation with the family. The smell of sausages on the open fire had everyone patiently waiting. #staysafestayhome

10.01.2022 This is true and not just for French bulldogs but any dog. They all deserved to be loved and given the best. If you cant take a dog for life dont get the dog. They are not cute toys they are living breathing souls that see you as family and adore you. Loyal to a fault.

09.01.2022 The weathers getting cool out. It’s lounge time

08.01.2022 Not long now. Our girl was very large so we have had her in for a check up With the vets today to make sure all will run smoothly. We have a few babies on board. Maybe not enough to fill the large list of potential homes we already have but its a start. Anyone care to take a guess before they are born later this week?

06.01.2022 We would love you to post some pics of your beautiful and handsome Westieparc family below and we may just use your pic as our background photo on Facebook page. Share as many as you like!!

05.01.2022 If youre updating your bushfire survival plans heres some advice on what to do with your pets.

04.01.2022 Time and time again animals are being innocently given away to people with bad intentions. The stories I hear are sickening. Dog fighting rings are all around us. They are also being stolen from back yards. This is why that if for any reason a family has to rehome one of our dogs for any reason we would always prefer you send them home to us. I would never want one of our babies to end up dog bait unknowingly

04.01.2022 Thank you everyone that shared their beautiful Westieparc Westies with us! Once my page allows I will update cover slideshow!

04.01.2022 We are almost two weeks old now eyes starting to open. These beautiful babes all have wonderful homes

04.01.2022 Cmon Jock you old grouch! Play with us!

02.01.2022 This is an X-ray of a 2 week old puppy, it really shows how far the bones have to grow before they become a proper joint! Puppy exercise is sooo importan...t as young dogs undergo significant physical changes. Most growth takes place between the ages of 4 to 8 months however, in some large/giant dog breeds the growth plates may remain open up to 18-20 months! There is no question that puppies LOVE to exercise & we want nothing more than to make them happy BUT puppy exercise limits MUST be applied to prevent damage to the puppys developing skeletal system. So heres a guide to help; Over-training, such as long-distance running, is unhealthy for young dogs and the benefits are minimal. Some dogs are driven to exercise and, as owners, we feel we are doing them a service by giving them what they want... So... what is enough? Appropriate Puppy Exercise 0-6mths Walking slow, short walks up to 30 mins, with plenty of opportunities for your puppy to stop & sniff sniff sniff Formal skills training sit, stay, down, touch no more than 2 mins per session. Free play no more than 10 mins; discourage rough play, such as body slamming. Chasing objects roll balls and drag toys along the ground. Avoid repetitive ball throwing & chasing. Tugging do not pull against the dog hold the toy and let the puppy pull against you; keep the toy low, to maintain the puppys neck in a straight line with its back. Avoid direct running , jumping, indoor/outdoor stairs, fast turns, sudden stops like chasing a ball! Young puppies, up to six months, should not be exercised with the intent to increase strength or endurance. These puppies should be allowed to play naturally, i.e. self-directed play. Jumping is often encouraged, with little understanding of the damage it can cause a young pup. Do not allow your puppy up on high objects without good supervision and assist them when getting down. We hope you share this with all your friends, students & puppy owners - Lets spread the word and make positive changes
