16.01.2022 Hey Dunedin! Here's a first for you... You all know me as that local cartoonist who does wonderful work with your tamariki... Well, I also teach adults!... YES!! That means YOU!!! So, from late July I will be running my first-ever Otago evening class (over five Tue nights) for grown ups*... If you're interested, here's all the info. Please share it around with all your friends, family and networks - it really helps A LOT!! All ages & abilities are warmly welcome! From teenagers right through to retirees. Parents and children, together, too!! And the best part? NO previous drawing experience is necessary. I've been teaching kids and adults now for nearly 30 years. And I guarantee that I'll help you to find (re-discover?) your inner & hidden cartoonist!! You'll have a LOT of fun, learn some new skills and make some new friends, too. Kia ora! PS *The term "grown-up" is overrated. I turned 50 late last year and I still haven't grown up. So it is NOT a prerequisite to attending my art classes...

09.01.2022 Hey Facebook Whanau, Aotearoa (NZ) is officially going into lockdown at midnight on Wed 25th March. Schools are closing and families are being urged to stay at home and to isolate for the next four weeks. It is a scary time for us all. And as a children's entertainer and art teacher, I thought: "What can I do to help?"... I had planned on running some cartooning classes in the upcoming April School Holidays. So, here's what I am planning on doing while I am in lockdown for the next four weeks. Starting from this coming Thursday 26th March (at approximately 7pm NZTime), on this Facebook page (Drawing On the Light Side - Cartoon Classes) I will be sharing (every day) some cartoon lessons & fun activities for tamariki (children). I will also be encouraging children (through their parents, online) to share around (on Social Media) with each other the results of these online lessons. And because this page is Public, anyone on Facebook can take part. Parents, teachers and educators will be encouraged to take part, too. Be sure to "Like" the page and share it around. If you have friends (and their families) who would benefit from this (but are not on Facebook), every couple of days I will put some of these lessons up on my blog, too. The address for this is: http://scatterjoythefilm.blogspot.com/ Next year, I am celebrating 30years as an art educator! I ran my first ever class (with adults, in Wellington) in July 1991. I am very proud of this. And look forward to celebrating this big year with you all, in a more public setting, sometime in July 2021!! I hope you enjoy the content I share on here. By all means, keep in touch during these next four weeks. If you like, you can take some photos of the cartoons that you create and send them to me... In these uncertain times, "Creativity Can Create Community". You can contact me (directly, here on Facebook), or you can send me an email: [email protected] In the meantime... Take good care of one another! Be kind!! And keep using your intuition and initiative. If you see someone struggling or needing help, reach out & do what you can. It is the little things we do for one another that have a big ripple affect & can change the world. Never forget that!! Arohanui, Kia Kaha!! From Brent Harpur, the 'Kiwi Cartoonist'. "What we need in this world are more people who specialise in the impossible." Theodore Roethke

05.01.2022 Hey Dunedin! Just a heads-up! I am moving to Oamaru (from the week of the 21st November). If you would like to catch up for a birthday drink (next Tuesday I will be turning 51), lunch, dinner, a cartoon lesson, whisky or a hug goodbye; I'll be floating around this wonderful city for approximately 22 more days & nights... So (please) get in touch! It's been an absolute blast! Thanks for ALL the lovely Aroha & support over the last three years!!!... To say goodbye is to die a little. Raymond Chandler Kia ora <3 PS I am on the lookout for a bedsit or 1-2 bedroom home to rent (in Oamaru) from the 17th Nov onward. Please let me know if you hear of anything! Much appreciated!! PPS This has been a VERY difficult decision for me to make... And it's equally a personal and a professional one. I'm happy to divulge more in person.

03.01.2022 I'm very excited to (finally!) do the BIG reveal!! Here it is... My new biz card!!!* It was laid out & designed by the wonderful, hardworking & dedicated Anne Bruestel. She's not only a top designer, she's also a brilliant marketing & brand strategist! I've included her details in this post, too! If you need some exceptional branding & design work done for your own business or product, please get in touch with her. Anne is passionate about her work, always professional and ve...ry hardworking & reliable - I highly recommend her!! *PS This business card is actually two cards in one. One side reflects me & all the things I do. And the flipside is a business card for my new shop, premises & learning space. Some of you will fondly remember I had a shop called the 'Blue Butterfly' in Sydney (from 2009-2011). And that is why it says on the card: Est. 2009. I hope you like it! Feedback welcome!! It has already picked me up a job in a local cafe (where I drew a couple of cartoons on my walk home). When I handed them one of my brand-new, hot off the press cards, the boss instantly dragged me over to a wall and said: We want some original art right here!!" Thanks again, Anne! Never underestimate the power of a really good business card!!
