14.01.2022 Bolgart Values their Community If you want a great example of community spirit and can-do attitude, then look no further . The Bolgart Values Community (BVC) group formed to support locals who may need some help for any reason. ... . In an area where there is no meals on wheel service, the community noticed some senior citizens occasionally needed home-cooked meals and BVC was born. . The BVC volunteers also support local citizens undergoing medical treatments who need some meals in the freezer or perhaps a friendly visitor to check on them if they have no family. . And the group has big plans. . That includes establishing a resource hub in the former ambulance shed on the main street to house information on medical and community services, tourist information and be a place where locals can meet over a cup of tea or coffee for a chat. . One of the ways the BVC raises money is through the BVC Bolgart Bush Christmas Markets. Opened by Darren West MLC, WA Labor Member for the Ag Region, the markets were this weekend and what a turnout they had! . Well done See more

11.01.2022 Bin isolation outing sends Toodyay business viral Grove Wesley Designs (GWD) has been trading for 18 years delivering signs, printing, promotional, embroidery and wrap services to Wheatbelt clients. Wheelie bin stickers have been a normal part of the business: when a picture of a bin with one of their stickers on it was shared on the Bin Isolation Outing Facebook page, it went viral sparking an influx of orders.... The business likes to explore new ideas and the wheelie bin stickers were an additional product line to the already thriving business. GWD is a team of two,; business sales had dropped by over 70% due to COVID-19. Promotion and increased sales of the wheelie bin stickers have kept the business afloat during these uncertain times. The support has been amazing and the orders just keep coming, said business owner Vicki Wesley GWD are currently planning a promotion to have 100,000 wheelie bins throughout Australia stickered. Sublimated products and social media management will be additional services offered by GWD in the future. GWD believe that the initiatives that they have implemented will ensure business sustainability during and after this pandemic. Branching out to service individuals, not just businesses, has opened doors to a whole new market for the team. Times will be different from here on in and businesses will not be in a position to spend a lot of money for some time, said Ms Wesley. Ms Wesley said: I think it is awesome how people have rallied together to make things work and be as good as they can be during this time. The comments we have received on our wheelie bin stickers have been really uplifting for us. The Wheatbelt Development Commission congratulates the team at GWD for being resilient, innovative and showing great leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic. 10.01.2022 Business innovation hits right note When COVID-19 restrictions hit, Beacon music teacher Vanessa Munns tackled the challenges presented head on, changing up her business model to offer lessons online. Prior to the restrictions, she spent hours on the road to deliver private piano, violin and guitar lessons to her 65 students, but a new business model and investment in technology means she can now inspire budding musicians online. ... That means less time on the road and more time teaching. Online delivery of lessons has meant that new strategies had to be developed and trialled with some working better than others. It has been beneficial to be part of a group of music teachers who have experience in online delivery. They have given loads of advice and assisted in troubleshooting common issues, Vanessa said. The new Jungle Music program, offered through an outreach scholarship from Forte, was started completely online. The program is based around group socialisation so had to be modified to individual learning. There are currently 12 students from around the region jumping online, drumming away and bonding with their parents through the medium of music. So whats next for the business? Vanessa is now aiming to provide online group piano lessons and said COVID-19 restrictions have positively changed the music studio. The investment in technology and move to an online platform now enables Vanessa to offer lessons online any time of the day, to anywhere around the world. The biggest challenge for a teacher is developing a relationship with the students through the screen, but it seems to be working, Vanessa said. The Wheatbelt Development Commission congratulates Vanessa for being innovative, embracing technology to continue to offer such an important program to students of all ages during COVID-19. #Wheatbelt #WheatbeltWA #wheatbeltbusiness #regionalwa #ruralbusiness #ruralwa #wheatbeltdevelopmentcommission #onlinemusic #junglemusic #Innovation #technology #younglearners #musicians #COVID19 #musicteacher #Fortemusic

09.01.2022 They’re brash, noisy and like to hang out in gangs, but did you know that the Carnaby Cockatoo is an endangered species? It was once common to see large flocks of Carnaby Cockatoos flying across the Wheatbelt, but their population has declined pretty significantly over the last few decades. Last year was the 10th annual Great Cocky Count, with results showing that the Carnaby’s population has dropped 35% between 2010 and 2019. ... That’s why it was such a treat to be able to check out the artificial nesting boxes at Candy’s Bush Reserve near Moora recently. We joined the Hon Kim Beazley AC, Governor of Western Australia as he was able to look inside the nesting box with a pole camera. Inside was a tiny chick waiting for its parents to return with food. It’s estimated that Carnaby’s Cockatoos no longer breed in about a third of their former Wheatbelt breeding sites, which is what makes the work at places like Candy’s Bush reserve so important. 09.01.2022 Koojan Downs Construction Recently we were able to join the Hon Kim Beazley AC, Governor of Western Australia as he visited the Koojan Downs feedlot construction site as part of a tour of Moora. . The scale of the project is huge. The feedlot facility will sit on 3751ha and when complete will have the capacity to supply 60,000, 100-day grain finished cattle each year.... . That will make it WA’s biggest feedlot facility and with a price tag of $51.9 million it marks a significant investment in the Wheatbelt. . All up the property totals more than 7000ha and straddles the shires of Dandaragan, Moora and Victoria Plains. . It’s planned that the feedlot will use best practice in terms of both animal welfare and technology - to produce cattle that will then be processed at Harvest Road’s processing facility Harvey Beef. 05.01.2022 Stargazing events go live from the Wheatbelt all across Western Australia Stargazers Club WA is a friendly community of Stargazers and Astronomy lovers. The organisation thrives on making astronomy for beginners easy and a whole lot of fun! During COVID-19 a pause has had to be put on all memberships and events.... We love getting out under the stars for events together and we're missing this dearly. It is a really genuine community said owner Carol Redford. On the positive side, the team has started doing "Backyard Stargazing" live videos on social media. The live feeds have been very popular and interactive for their followers all over WA. I think the live video has become part of what we do now and it feels like I'm in my backyard with members and friends enjoying stargazing together. It's a joy! It connects me to my members and a whole new audience, who are quickly becoming part of the community said Carol. 03.01.2022 The State Government will introduce further restrictions on travel within the State from midnight Tuesday, to assist in reducing the spread of COVID-19. From midnight Tuesday, restrictions will be placed on travel within the entire State of Western Australia. Western Australians will only be permitted to leave their regional boundary for essential purposes. Police have the power to enforce these restrictions if necessary, and fines of up to $50,000 can be issued. Exemptions w...ill include, but are not limited to, travelling for employment purposes; medical reasons including health and emergency services; people living in border communities, who may not have access to groceries or supplies within their region; transport of goods; and compassionate grounds. The regional boundaries mirror those of the regional development commissions. Due to their close proximity, the Perth and Peel regions will combine into one region. Previously announced additional restrictions to remote Aboriginal communities will continue to apply to protect vulnerable people in those communities. These are important measures to stop the spread of COVID-19 and protect our regional communities. It is absolutely vital that Western Australians abide by these restrictions, to help protect themselves, their family and the wider community. We will provide more detail on how the restrictions will operate, and exact criteria for exemptions, before the restrictions come into force next week. We will provide a link to the Premier's Media Statement as soon as it is available. Thank you to regional Western Australians for your understanding during this extraordinary time.
