25.01.2022 Catching up on some odd jobs while the restricted trading has caused things to be a bit quiet. I've made this for the shops barrel vice. This will give a good even clamping force which should help heaps with undoing the stubborn ones while protecting the surface finish. The bushes are a perfect fit and can be easily made as required.

24.01.2022 One brand spanking new 6.5 Creedmoor! Proof Research barrel, Kelbly action. Timney Calvin Elite trigger, Terminator T2 brake in a Magpul stock...... and the finished weight is only 3.7kg.

23.01.2022 G'day WA, *******$$$5000********** WAFTA is offering a $5000 reward to anyone who supplys information to WAFTA that leads to a conviction for the Crimes committ...ed at Barry & Son Firearms yesterday evening. https://thewest.com.au//guns-stolen-after-robbery-at-becke

23.01.2022 Here is a very nice APRS built 308. In for an APA brake and Grovetec flush cups.

23.01.2022 Gearing up for the next big build. The reamer and dies are for a 300 Norma Mag. 308 Win for comparison. Most of the rifle components aren't 100% decided on yet. The twist rate will be 1:8.

23.01.2022 Feeling a bit spoilt again, getting to work with cool components like this! It's for a 6.5 Creedmoor build that is not too far from kicking off. Who doesn't love carbon fibre!!

22.01.2022 This rifle started life as a 17 Hornet and has now been converted to 22K Hornet. Fire formed 22K Hornet on the right, standard on the left. It should be a good little performer once the fireformed cases are reloaded.

20.01.2022 This afternoons science experiment, It still needs finishing but should be good when its done. Its made out of a barrel offcut. The ports angle up at 5 degrees just to make the job slightly trickier. I'm going to trial it on a 30 cal magnum and a 308 Winchester. It is an inch and a quarter in diameter currently but may be turned down at a later date.

20.01.2022 Yep...... it's not a picture of a nice rifle. I'm pretty sure a few reloaders would follow this page so I thought I'd share this anyway. They are precision scales made by A&D Weighing. They measure down to .02 of a grain and they do it quickly. Bit overkill for most reloaders but if you want to weigh powder accurately these are the go.

20.01.2022 One Weatherby Vanguard all back together with its new iBi barrel. Hanging out to see the results on paper.

20.01.2022 Can you help identify these men, who kidnapped an 81-year-old man and stole a large number of firearms? Detectives attached to Taskforce Newstead are seeking in...formation regarding a robbery incident in Beckenham last night, Wednesday 4 September 2019, during which a large number of firearms were stolen. About 5.45pm an 81-year-old staff member from the Barry & Sons Firearms shop on Clapham Street, Beckenham left work. While stationary at the intersection of Albany Highway and Austin Avenue in Beckenham his vehicle was struck from behind by a white van. Both vehicles stopped around the corner from the crash location, and at this time the victim was kidnapped and placed in the rear of the van. The victim, who was restrained, was unable to escape. The victim was driven to the store where two men involved in the incident, pictured, stole a large number of firearms and an amount of ammunition. The van is believed to be a Mercedes Sprinter or similar, and had registration PH 10279. The number plates were stolen from a vehicle earlier in the day, and it is likely they are no longer on the van. Police were alerted to the incident about 8:00pm when a hold-up alarm was activated. Police attended the scene and the victim was taken to hospital as a precaution due to his age. He received no serious injuries and it is believed he was held against his will for approximately 40 minutes. Anyone with information regarding this incident, the crash, or who recognise the men or van pictured is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report the information online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au.

19.01.2022 AGM... great turn out by some keen Firearms Traders of WA. We are all here comitted to the profesional activities of our industry. Ask your local dealer are they are a WAFTA member

18.01.2022 Here are the custom bases we are going to use on the 2 357 Cadet builds. These are made inhouse out of 4140. They will be polished up a bit more and blued at a later date with the rifles.

17.01.2022 Tikka with all of the good stuff. Cerakote, Terminator T3, MDT Chassis, Atlasworx bolt handle and shroud.

17.01.2022 Some pics of WPG's most recent brake fit up. It's a Badger Ordnance Thruster on a 6.5 Creedmoor. The ports on these brakes are offset slightly above the bore axis to reduce muzzle rise.

16.01.2022 It's always a pleasure starting a build when the components are some of the best stuff available. McMillan A-5 stock, Jewell trigger, Badger Ordnance trigger guard, APA Little Bastard brake, Krieger barrel, Spuhr mount and a March scope to top it all off. It's going to be chambered in 6.5-284 Norma.

15.01.2022 This mornings effort. 1 new Krieger on a very neat Rem700 work rifle.

15.01.2022 WHO IS WAFTA WAFTA is a volunteer run organisation made up from the 300 + dealer, repairer and manufacturer licenses currently issued by WA Police. Our members... are dedicated, passionate, local, family owned and LEGAL! WAFTA members are community minded small business owners who live in your town or suburb, we probably even live next door, we are most likely your local AG store or general store, we could even be the sports shop in you town the fuel station down the road or a purpose built store in the city, we are your mum or dad, brother, sister, son or daughter. No matter who we are in your community our members are a vital part of your town via economic befits or sporting and cultural contributions. Our members have been at the forefront of many WA firearms issues effecting both trade and individual license holders. For many years now our members have been the firearms industries voice in WA to both our regulator (WA Police) as well government. WAFTA will continue to advocate for sensible legislation based on facts not emotion, clear and concise Communication, Consultation and Service from the regulator with emphasis on fair application of both Firearms Act 1973 and Firearms regulations 1974.

14.01.2022 3 Rem 700's all getting Krieger barrels and various other upgrades.

13.01.2022 I've actually been keen to see how iBi barrels go, finally get to fit one. This is going onto one of those 223s from the last post.

13.01.2022 It has been a while in the making but the shops big rifle is finally finished. Time for some load development!

12.01.2022 The 6.5-284 Norma is all finished.

11.01.2022 SSAA (WA) COVID 19 STATEMENT The SSAA WA continues to be at the forefront with our commitment to playing our part in stopping the spread of COVID-19 and protec...ting our members and the wider community. All SSAA WA clubs are to be highly commended for their recent proactive approach in suspending their club operations and competitions from the 23rd March through to the 31st of May 2020 in line with all the major sporting codes across Australia. Since the beginning of this crisis, and in the space of less than one month, the WA Government have issued twenty-eight orders and directives under the powers of the Emergency Management Act, to deal with this serious threat to the health of everyone in our community. Many of these orders change daily as the situation escalates and we will continue to monitor and engage with Government at all levels. SSAA WA understands tough decisions need to be made and we will continue to support all health based recommendations to protect the people of Australia. We will continue to update members throughout this crisis and encourage all members to follow all Government Health advice and directives. Gun Shop Closures In light of this, we do not accept the recent decision by the WA Government to forcibly close Gun Shops and the Firearm Dealer Network, implying that Sporting Shooters and 85,000 licensed firearm owners in Western Australia are in any way a threat to public safety or pose any greater risk in being allowed to trade in the same way other hardware, sporting or camping suppliers remain open for business. Unlike any other sporting or recreational groups or individuals, all licensed law abiding firearm owners are background checked, required to comply with all regulations of the WA Firearms Act, and are approved by the WA Police, following a rigorous process to be issued with a firearm licence. To imply with some vague justification that since shooting clubs and shooting ranges have voluntarily closed, and due to the public health crisis, all licensed firearm owners cannot now be trusted is political grandstanding at best. Golf clubs remain open as do shops that sell golfing equipment. Furthermore to attempt to create an environment that suggested stockpiling of firearms and ammunition was occurring due to the pandemic, and refuse to accept the evidence available that international supply and demand, the falling Australian dollar, the traditional Easter holiday spike and the recent release of long awaited new sporting firearm models were all major contributors to a surge in sales, is further evidence of the recent and ongoing disregard shown to the firearm industry, that has been part of the Australian vernacular for over 100 years. Sporting Shooters, WA Firearm owners and the WA Firearm Industry are vilified and insulted yet again, with no justification to support this decision, zero consultation with key stakeholders and a complete contempt for the thousands of people now unemployed throughout the industry. This is clearly evident with the daily back flipping on the decision by the WA Police and the unworkable changes that have been hastily convened in an attempt to appear to be consultative with the sections of the firearm community that are now deemed essential. This call was made, despite the Prime Minister and the National Cabinet stating that all jobs are essential and as long as all rules relating to social distancing and hygiene could be maintained, businesses could and should remain open. The SSAA WA will support all measures to have this decision reversed and is actively consulting with the WA Firearms Traders Association, Members of Parliament and our legal team to ensure a fair playing field is maintained for our industry and all Firearm Owners across the State. The most highly regulated industry in the country and members of our community should not be treated any differently with regard to continuing to purchase, trade, maintain employment and support their families, whilst actively contributing to this National Emergency and following all the measures set down by State and Federal Governments. Firearm Applications being cancelled SSAA WA has recently received reports of firearm applications being declined and when questions were raised in Parliament, the following response was issued by the WA Police: Recent applications have also been assessed taking into account current directions made pursuant to the State of Emergency in Western Australia and legislative requirements. WA Police have also issued a response with respect to a question on refunds of firearm application charges stating the police component of firearm application fees is refunded if an application is declined. When an application is declined, the refund process is undertaken automatically, Australia Post fees associated with firearms applications are retained by Australia Post and is a fee for the service it provides SSAA WA has been in contact with the WA Police Ministers Office regarding this issue and we have yet to receive a clear answer to the questions posed relating to recent changes to the processing of firearm applications, genuine need or refunds of declined applications. Whilst it may be the situation that essential WA Police are being re tasked to other duties during this crisis, or for any other reason, law abiding new applicants and licensed firearm owners should reasonably expect a simple and direct answer to any changes to firearm licensing applications and the reasoning behind any changes. SSAA WA will continue to direct our enquiry to the WA Police Ministers Office and provide an update as soon as possible. In addition, should it be the case that WA Police are suggesting only partial refunds for any declined firearm applications is to be implemented; this is disgraceful and will be addressed immediately. The SSAA is the pre-eminent law-abiding firearm owners association in Australia, and by virtue of our responsibility to our members and all licensed firearm owners, we will always be part of the Australian community and contribute to dealing with any National Emergency. We will not tolerate emergency measures being used to unfairly target law-abiding firearms owners and allow rules to be created by WA Police, outside of the powers of the WA Firearms Act or Emergency Regulations. Members Role Now more than ever, we all need to follow the measures introduced to protect ourselves and the community. With hard borders to be introduced and regional travel across our state severely restricted, it is difficult to not feel that our freedoms are being stripped away on a daily basis. Our regular hunting and shooting activities are being curtailed, as are most other parts of our daily lives. Take this time to organize, clean and prepare your gear. Some gun shop retailers remain open and now is the time to support them. Buy some cleaning gear, update that scope you wanted, grab a new gun bag. These actions can be performed safely and within the rules around social distancing. When this crisis is resolved, we need our retailers to still be there, so we can all get back to doing what we all love to do. The SSAA WA will continue to fiercely advocate on your behalf, with the strong belief that every member also has a key role in your local community. Wherever you are across the State, ensure the message gets out there that we will always be law abiding and responsible members of the Community. Laws are made by the people and the people elect their politicians to ensure Laws are implemented for the benefit of everyone. The SSAA WA supports unity and solidarity amongst the Firearm Community and now more than ever we need to combine our energy and resources to be part of our own future. Ron Bryant SSAA (WA) State President

11.01.2022 Some of you may be aware that WA gun dealers and repairers were forced to close to the public as of 11:59am today. Unfortunately we were given zero notice and not much of an explanation, apart from it is to ensure public safety during the state of emergency, and without any mention as to how it will actually make the public safer. There may be a provision to provide ammunition to primary producers, but at this stage I haven't been given any details on how to do this without t...he risk of a very substantial fine. My suggestion is to be patient, hope that the situation is resolved quickly, and please continue to support your local gun dealer when all of this is over. Lastly, if you would like to stay up to date with issues the firearm industry and gun owners are facing, head over to the WAFTA Facebook page and give them a like. As always, I am contactable by phone and via Facebook. Brock.

10.01.2022 My 308 received a bit of a revamp over the weekend. New McMillan, a 1:10 Hardy barrel and a custom brake. Will get to see how the new combo goes next weekend.

10.01.2022 New barrel for this BRNO. This ones in chromoly so I got to fire up the bluing tanks. Such a cool little rifle.

08.01.2022 Current article in todays paper from our industry partners SIFA seem to have hit a nerve with the Premier as seen on todays media release. NO Mr Premier you hav...e not been threatened. You have simply been asked to Consult and Communicate effectively with Industry. Again, by your actions you have effectively called 85,000 firearms owners in your state untrustworthy and created an adverse effect of your intention.

07.01.2022 Top quality gear and made here in WA! I run AOS bags for all of my personal rifles. They are built tough just like their famous swags! AOS have a massive range of other products, well worth checking out. If you need anything, give me a call, as we stock their gun bags and can supply other AOS products as well.

07.01.2022 I thought I'd start to show off a few of the specialty tools in the shop. This is a stuck case puller. Basically it's a little slide hammer that uses a collet to grab the base of a jammed live (or fired) case. It removes the risk of the round exploding from an accidental knock to the primer during extraction. Safety first.

07.01.2022 Appologies for the delay in updates.. WAFTA have been busy engaging with other industries all day.. One small relief for some or our traders today was the Redra...w and Correction of the closure of thier business premsies. Prehaps not the most thought through plan by Govt as this has heavily impacted many rural communities and brought undue stress and pannic to an already worrying time. The implementation of these new allowances are still unacceptable and unwarranted as law abiding and legal firearms owners do not pose a security risk as stated by the Premier.

07.01.2022 Alot of work has been put into these two old cadet rifles. Well worth the effort, very happy with them.

07.01.2022 A little bit of news just received from police licensing services. WA Police Force Licensing Services (Firearms) (LSF) are currently reinstating all applications that have been declined as a result of the current COVID-19 pandemic. Refunds have been transacted and you will receive yours soon (if not already ... received). A process is currently under development which will afford those persons, who were declined, the opportunity to have their application reassessed should they wish to do so (applications that are reassessed will be subject to the normal application process). The Closure of Gun Shops (No2) Direction (dated 28 March 2020) has not been rescinded. Currently only applications from persons who fall into the following categories will be considered: A Primary Producer; A Vermin Eradication Professional; or An Aboriginal person who is entitled to exercise a native title right to hunt over particular land and waters. LSF are unable to provide a timeframe as to when the Closure of Gun Shops (No2) Direction will be rescinded. This is a decision for the Emergency Management Coordinator. Do not contact LSF, those persons effected will be contacted by LSF to discuss their options. Do not attend Australia Post to resubmit your application. We thank you for your patience and understanding during these unprecedented times. See more

06.01.2022 Here are a couple of bolt knob upgrades done this morning. All done with the PTG jig.

05.01.2022 How's this for a long range heavy hitter. 300 Remington Ultra Mag built on a trued Remington 700 action, Krieger barrel, MDT LSS XL Gen 2 stock. Timney Calvin Elite trigger, Terminator T3 brake and a Spuhr mount holding a Nightforce ATACR 5-25x56 scope. 308 round next to the RUM for comparison in the last pic. We tested it with some factory Hornady Precision Hunter ammo with a 220gn ELD-X projectile. The average muzzle velocity measured by the Labradar was 3085fps.

05.01.2022 Here's a few of the jobs currently on the go. Changing out the barrels on a Howa and a Weatherby. The Rem 700 at the back will be getting the works. Currently it's a 22-250 that has seen its share of farm duties. Soon it will be a 6.5 Creedmoor.

05.01.2022 G'day WA, Traders, firearms owners alike make sure as always you check and triple check your Firearms, Ammunition, Components storage is correct and meets the l...egislation. With a jump in burglary's over the last month it's worth running your eye over your storage and general security making sure there is no simple improvements you can make. Remember compliant and full safe is a happy safe!

04.01.2022 While the tanks were hot I ran some of the parts through for the 357 mag/max Cadet rifles.

03.01.2022 Sunday's job all finished. Trued Rem 700, Krieger barrel in a Magpul Hunter stock. It will also be getting a Burris eliminator fitted to it. If the old farm Rem 700 needs a bit of a freshen up we can turn it into something like this very easily.

03.01.2022 Long long time between posts. All I can say is the shop has been very busy. Finally got a chance to take some photos of a build. This Rem 700 has had lots of use and has been well traveled. Not that you could tell now. New Krieger barrel, Terminator T2, Magpul stock and lick of cerakote and it's ready to go back to work.

03.01.2022 The WA firearms industry always seem to be facing more than its fair share of issues, ranging anywhere from minor annoyances, all the way through to potentially crippling. The WA Firearms Traders Association is run by a group of volunteers who dedicate their own time to combating these issues on behalf of its members. If you would like to support the WA Firearms Traders Association you can now become an associate member. Just follow the link below. https://wafirearmtraders.com/index.html

03.01.2022 Last job for the day all done. This is a M4-72 Servere-Duty brake made by Precision Armaments in the USA. Not a bad little brake, fits well on the Tikka Varmint barrel too.

02.01.2022 The stocks arrived for the 310 to 357 Mag and 357 Max conversions. This is only just sitting together for the photo.

01.01.2022 Officially my favourite new toy in the shop! Finally got the V3 Auto Trickler for the A&D scales. This thing is fast and so accurate at the same time!
