14.01.2022 More puns anyone? Is recycling a bad gag good for the environment?

14.01.2022 Vin says: 'All that gift wrapping create less waste (and less wrapping work) by choosing reusable ways of wrapping Christmas gifts, such as boxes, gift bags, tea towels and scarves. If you have gifts that are gadgets which need powering, choose a charger and batteries you can recharge and reuse, over and over. Hashtag, reuse!' www.whichbin.sa.gov.au//let-s-avoid-reduce-and-reuse-waste

13.01.2022 This week is National Recycling Week. Recycling creates jobs and through Electronic Recycling Australia in Ottoway, the City of Port Adelaide Enfield supports Minda to employ hundreds of supported workers living with a disability. At their 301 Grand Junction Road, Ottoway premises, ERA also accept expanded polystyrene which cannot be recycled through your yellow bins at home.

12.01.2022 Vin says: 'Every bin ninja knows recycling also means finding ways to buy recycled, and keeping materials in circulation. Consider looking for recycled, upcycled or handmade Christmas gifts. Who are your favourite stores, creators, markets and makers? Let us and others know in the comments!' #circulareconomy www.whichbin.sa.gov.au//let-s-avoid-reduce-and-reuse-waste

11.01.2022 Vin says: 'Hey everyone! Your yellow kerbside bin is ready and waiting to devour all your wrapping (paper and foil), boxes, Christmas cards, cardboard packaging and all those bottles...you know the ones...those that don't get you 10 cents at the depot. Fill 'er up!' www.whichbin.sa.gov.au//let-s-avoid-reduce-and-reuse-waste

09.01.2022 Everyone who recycles correctly, or asks 'Which Bin?' if they're not sure, contributes to South Australia's excellent recycling performance which provides jobs for South Aussies as well as reducing emissions and making best use of materials. The most recent Recycling Activity Survey (2018-2019) for our state is now available. Here is South Australia's recycling performance in a quick snapshot: 83.8% of all waste generated in South Australia was diverted from landfill. This ...equates to 4.34 million tonnes of material not going to waste. Since 2003, the recycling rate has improved by nearly 22 per cent and resource recovery has increased from approximately 2 million tonnes to just over 4.3 million tonnes a year. The waste management, resource recovery and recycling sector employs approximately 4,800 South Australians (both directly and indirectly). The market value of recovered resources in 2018-19 was $348 million dollars. South Australia leads the nation with the best recycling rate. South Australia has the best per capita resource recovery rate in the nation. Our diversion and recovery rate means 1.31 million tonnes of greenhouse gases are not being released, the same as planting 2 million trees; or taking 302,000 cars off the road each year. For more detail, see the full report: https://www.greenindustries.sa.gov.au//recycling-activity-

05.01.2022 Vin says: 'Hey guys, your green bin wants it's Christmas dinner too! Feed it all your food scraps and plate scrapings, including meat and seafood, which you can store in the freezer until bin collection day. Make sure you use a compostable bag with the AS 4736 logo, like the ones your council may supply you with (look for this www.facebook.com/whichbin/photos/684262432419889). And remember: No logo, no go go.' If your council has provided you with a kitchen caddy, you can catch your food scraps and put them into your green kerbside bin to be sent off for composting at a commercial facility. You can put all kinds of food scraps in the caddy/green bin, including things you can't put into worm farms and some home composting systems, such as onion, garlic, meat scraps and bones.
