24.01.2022 Some happy faces all rugged up for the chilly nights.
24.01.2022 PLEASE LEAVE THEM IN THE SHOPS The vast majority of these rawhide products and treats come from China. Their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a... toxic sodium sulphide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white "pure" look and remove the rancid smell. Now comes the pretty festive colours and the glue to form cute shapes. They regularly cause intestinal blockages and choking. The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog. Please be safe with your dogs!
24.01.2022 These 2 gorgeous oldies are Bindi 13yrs & Busta 16yrs old. I put 3 coats on each & have a special crate made up with blankets over the top to keep them extra warm. They also have their legs & feet wiped dry when they come in from running around in the grass so they don’t get their bed wet & so they don’t get cold.
22.01.2022 WARNING - Toxic poisoning If any of you have dogs and have Yuccas tree’s , please remove the yuccas from your property or ensure your canine or pet can not get... near them. Yuccas are not only toxic but poisonous to canines. Every second day, I have been at the vets hoping to save our boy as well as his man hood. He is on the highest form of medication and scanning his testicles every second day. To make sure the blood flow is ok. The cells at this stage are good and with much luck, will make a full recovery. Yuccas create toxic poisonous shock, that creates an infection. This is deadly and can result in losing your canine, should this not treated or attended to straight away. This is the result of the infection, that spread throughout his whole body and also into the testicles that caused major swelling. For those that look at this and say lose the man hood. Once toxic shock kicks in from the plant, the infection and the swelling. If we were to operate on him, he would bleed out on the table and I would lose my boy. Many sites will only tell you about the affects of a canine eating the plant and how toxic it is to canines, cats and horses. Humans can have a allergic reaction to the plant. The articles do not tell you how toxic and how quick the poisoning travels through blood stream when being cut or deeply pricked by one. My boy is from a direct deep prick of the tree ,into the body - creates toxic poisoning straight into the blood stream. First signs of poisoning is - vomiting , the runs (loose stool), dehydration and lethargic followed by high temps. - Weakness, Drooling , Muscle tremors and seizures Here is some of the list of plants toxic to canines - Agapanthus (Roots) Aloe (Leaves) Angels Trumpet (All parts) Apricots (Stem, bark and seed kernels) Arum Lily (Spine and bulbs) Asparagus Fern (All parts) Avocado (Fruit, leaves, bark, seed) Azalea (All parts) Bird of Paradise (Fruit, seeds) Caladium (All parts) Cape Lilac (Berries) Clematis (All parts) Cotoneaster glaucophyllus (Fruit) Cycads (Seeds) Daffodils (All parts but especially bulbs) Daphne (Berries, bark, leaves) Dumb Cane Dieffenbachia (All parts) Foxgloves (Leaves, seeds, flowers) Frangipani (Sap) Gladioli (Bulbs) Hellebore (All parts) Hyacinth (Bulbs, leaves, flowers) Hydrangea (Leaves, stems) Ivy (All parts of most varieties) Jonquil (Bulbs) Kalanchoe (All parts) Lantana (All parts) Lily (All parts) Lily of the Valley (All parts) Lobelia (All parts) Macadamia (Nuts) Fruit Salad Plant Monstera (Unripe fruit) Morning Glory (Seeds) Nightshade (All parts) Oleander (All parts, including dead leaves) Onion (Bulbs) Ornamental chilli (Fruit) Philodendron (All parts) Poinsettia (Leaves, flowers) Rhododendron (All parts) Rhubarb (Leaves) Savin Juniper (All parts) Sweet Pea (Seeds, pods) Tomato Plants (Leaves) Tulip (Bulbs) Umbrella Plant (All parts) Wandering Jew (Leaves, stems, sap) Wisteria (Seeds, pods) Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow (All parts) also known as Brunfelsia pauciflora Yucca (All parts)
20.01.2022 WARNING YUCCA TOXIC TO DOGS
20.01.2022 The big girl with the pink collar is our latest edition to the pack , came out of pound on Friday , her new name is jasmine or jazzy , so day three and as you c...an see she is gaining her confidence around the other hooligans, over the years I’ve found the most amazing dogs in pound , grand champion show ring dogs , highly pedigree four thousand dollar dogs , and of course all the usual back yard puppies who are just as important, I gave up wondering why years ago or it would drive you crazy . Turns out after some detective work I do know her breeder and I have worked with her big brother Angus who is enormous , Jazz is only a dainty sixty six kilos . See more
20.01.2022 Our beautiful Veena won’t be coming to say hello when you arrive to the kennels. She hurt her leg & found out all at once she had cancer in her leg causing her to fractured it. So we said goodbye yesterday. We had 10 amazing years with this gentle loving sweetest girl & she will be greatly missed. RIP baby girl
19.01.2022 This greyhound insists on sleeping with her head on a pillow every night
18.01.2022 These beautiful girls & boy are from the same family so are all comfortably in the jumbo kennel. They play well together, feed well together & sleep well together. But Kevin didn’t want to go & play ball with the girls, he preferred to be the commentator
17.01.2022 IMPORTANT UPDATE Parvo has now been found in the #Dalyellup area. We are also aware of more positive cases in the Bunbury area. ... Parvo doesn't just affect puppies - dogs of all ages can get symptoms, from minor to severe. ___________ PARVOVIRUS ALERT There have been cases of parvo reported in the #Bunbury area. Parvo is highly contagious and potentially deadly and can stay in the environment for months - even years. Treatment is expensive and requires around the clock care, with no guarantee of survival. COMMON SIGNS are vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy, loss of appetite and dehydration. Typically young and unvaccinated dogs are affected, but it can also infect any adult dog who’s immunity is low. VACCINATION is the best PREVENTION. Please ensure ALL DOGS are up to date with their vaccinations. Don't walk puppies out in public or socialise them with unknown dogs until at least two weeks after their third puppy vaccination. Vaccinate your mate, before it's too late. #VaccinateYourDog #Parvo #ParvoAwareness #SAFEdogs
17.01.2022 Also be aware of the hot ground that burns dogs feet. Utes, sand, road, pavement & even up at the dam the gravel will burn dogs feet.
16.01.2022 Bought this indoor tap attachment at Bunnings to attach the hose to laundry tap. Now I can wash the dogs outside with warm water instead of in the shower. Just unscrew where the mesh screen is & add adapter in the pack.
15.01.2022 A coworker used this shampoo on his dogs (shitzus) last night and both dogs were dead within an hour. Turns out there is a pending? possible class action lawsui...t against this brand because dogs (and cats) have died after using it #hartzshampoo #petcare #dogshampoo #fleatreatment edit: not good for cats either http://www.hartzvictims.org/2019/10/
14.01.2022 If you're having a shit day, just remember how happy this dog is
13.01.2022 I’m devastated to find out that one of our most intense/critically ill patients from last week lost his battle over the weekend. Another young, beautiful doggo ...lost to cycad toxicity. These plants are killers! Every part of the tree is extremely toxic to dogs and I personally believe that they should come with huge warning tags or not be sold at all. Ingestion results in liver failure and it happens very quickly. Even under specialist Veterinary care, the mortality rate on cycad toxicity patients is extremely high. Please, please, PLEASE don’t have these in your garden if you have dogs! Let your friends and family know and be sure to share this with as many people as you can. I’m so sorry that we lost the fight little guy. You were an absolute legend EDIT: top left image is actually a Date Palm (not a cycad). Sorry for the confusion! Cycads are also known as Sago Palms but are not actually a species of palm. Please check if you’re concerned/unsure. UPDATE: just had a 3rd cycad patient admitted to our ICU in the space of 3 weeks. Sadly, it’s quite common for pets to chew on/ingest plants.... this post is simply to create awareness on just how incredibly toxic this particular plant is. Your dog may stay away from plants (and that’s fantastic) but please share the info to help save those who don’t. See more
13.01.2022 Nice to finally be using the kennels again with this gorgeous pup
11.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS..... The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is alerting pet owners and veterinarians to be aware of the potential for neurologic adverse events in ...dogs and cats when treated with drugs that are in the isoxazoline class. Posted on the FDA website 9/20/18: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is alerting pet owners and veterinarians to be aware of the potential for neurologic adverse events in dogs and cats when treated with drugs that are in the isoxazoline class. Since these products have obtained their respective FDA approvals, data received by the agency as part of its routine post-marketing activities indicates that some animals receiving Bravecto, Nexgard or Simparica have experienced adverse events such as muscle tremors, ataxia, and seizures. Another product in this class, Credelio, recently received FDA approval. These products are approved for the treatment and prevention of flea infestations, and the treatment and control of tick infestations. The FDA is working with manufacturers of isoxazoline products to include new label information to highlight neurologic events because these events were seen consistently across the isoxazoline class of products. The FDA carefully reviewed studies and other data on Bravecto, Credelio, Nexgard and Simparica prior to approval, and these products continue to be safe and effective for the majority of animals. The agency is asking the manufacturers to make the changes to the product labeling in order to provide veterinarians and pet owners with the information they need to make treatment decisions for each pet on an individual basis. Veterinarians should use their specialized training to review their patients’ medical histories and determine, in consultation with pet owners, whether a product in the isoxazoline class is appropriate for the pet. Although FDA scientists carefully evaluate an animal drug prior to approval, there is the potential for new information to emerge after marketing, when the product is used in a much larger population. In the first three years after approval, the FDA pays particularly close attention to adverse event reports, looking for any safety information that may emerge. The FDA monitors adverse drug event reports received from the public or veterinarians, other publicly available information (such a peer-reviewed scientific articles), and mandatory reports from the animal drug sponsor (the company that owns the right to market the drug). Drug sponsors must report serious, unexpected adverse events within 15 days of the event. In addition, they must submit any events that are non-serious, plus any laboratory studies, in vitro studies, and clinical trials that have not been previously submitted to the agency, on a bi-annual basis for the first two years following product approval and annually thereafter. The FDA continues to monitor adverse drug event reports for these products and encourages pet owners and veterinarians to report adverse drug events. You can do this by reporting to the drugs’ manufacturers, who are required to report this information to the FDA, or by submitting a report directly to the FDA. To report suspected adverse drug events for these products and/or obtain a copy of the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) or for technical assistance, contact the appropriate manufacturers at the following phone numbers: Merck Animal Health (Bravecto): Phone 1800 230 833 Email http://www.bravecto.com.au/contact Elanco Animal Health (Credelio): Phone: 1800 226 324 Email: www.elanco.com.au Merial (Nexgard): Phone Boehringer Ingelheim Animal health Customer Solutions: 1800 808 691 (9am-4pm AEST) Zoetis (Simparica): Phone 1800 814 883 Email [email protected]. 09.01.2022 PLEASE THINK BEFORE YOU WALK!! If it feels like it would fry an egg and it's to hot for you than it is definitely to hot for them unless they too have shoes!!!!
09.01.2022 With temperatures set to soar in to the high thirties over the next few days it’s incredibly important that we’re that little bit more vigilant and careful with... our pets. Some tips to keeping your pets cool: - Keep multiple water sources available in case one gets knocked over. - Keep water bowls in the shade. - Frozen treats are delicious, cool and will keep your dog occupied! - If you can’t walk on the road or path with bare feet then it’s also too hot for your furry buddy! - Keep pets indoors, in air con if possible. Especially flat nosed breeds!! (Bulldogs, pugs, frenchies, bull mastiffs etc). - Don’t cover your pet in a wet towel as this will stop the heat from being able to evaporate. Instead, wet down your pets fur. If you believe your pet may be suffering with heatstroke call your local veterinarian immediately. If you have any questions please feel free to contact our sister hospital in Collie on 97341155. Please help us spread the word by sharing this post.
