24.01.2022 A Walk along the cliff top then along the sea wall. It was about an hour to go before high tide, & the sea wall was already getting a pounding. There was somebody seemed to be transfixed by the incoming waves. Don R

20.01.2022 The USA been in the news at moment I thought I would share my trip as one of the Chaperone's for my Granddaughter's class at school.( My Daughter lives in Calif...inoria USA) There are a lot of photo's so it's split in two parts. That will come later. In my case it's the photos that tell the story,( it saves a lot of words ). We took off from L/A landing in Virginia, so west to east. I could have made a Video of this but showing stills it gives you more time to take it all in. Most of the photos refer to well known sites if you refer to your history books. In Virginia it was pointed out to me more than once what we British did over there, most of the other Chaperone's were school teachers, so they knew their history. The "Old Post Office" when I took these photo's was owned by Donald Trump, who wanted to knock it down, & build something of his own. Here's hoping you find it interesting. Don R

15.01.2022 A BIT OF GOOD NEWS FROM PAM Whitby Whaler’s u3a purchased a defibrillator some time ago and despite some delay it has now been fitted to the front wall of the Whitby Fire Station. The u3a Committee and members are most grateful to Andrew Reilly and the Fire Service for stepping up and permitting the u3a to do this. A defibrillator is a piece of equipment that can be collected in an emergency situation. Should you be in the vicinity of someone having a heart attack and not bre...athing you would be advised to ring 999 and ask for an ambulance, the operator on that call will be able to direct you to the nearest defibrillator and will give you a code to allow you to open the yellow metal box that holds the unit. Inside each metal box is a defibrillator unit and a first aid kit, it is important that you take both of these to the casualty. The ambulance operator will send an ambulance but will also stay on the phone with you, as they talk through every stage of what you should do. If other members of the public are close by you are also advised to ask them to assist you. The u3a defibrillator is one of 28 or so units in the Whitby area so it is likely that there will be one in your vicinity. The high levels of defibrillators in Whitby and the surrounding area is down to an organisation call the Whitby Defibrillator Project (WDP). They are a very small group of people who recognised the need for Public Access Defibrillators in the Whitby area and who came together with the benefit of years of experience in the Lions, to help co-ordinate funds raised for this purpose. They succeeded beyond all expectation. It is worthy of note that the WDP have in trust enough funds to maintain all units for the next 9 years. u3a members will be able to access an informative video on how to use the equipment via the u3a facebook page. Those involved in the project would like to thank Trevor Barrowcliffe, u3a Chair, and his then committee for agreeing the purchase of the defibrillator unit for the benefit of the general public and Whitby Whalers u3a, who in normal circumstances hold many of their activities at St John’s Hall, in very close proximity to the fire station . The siting of the unit at the Fire Station will give all those living, working and enjoying activity in the area safety and reassurance. Pam Boland - WDP

14.01.2022 Every year I produce a calendar made up of my photos of the Whitby area. The reason I do it, quite simply I like taking photo's. I normally sell then at "Coffee Morning" but that's not to be. So to show you them here they are, there are 14 images, the two are a bonus. My name appears bottom left, this is just to protect my copyright, . I charge 8.50 which is what it costs me to produce. Contact me if you would like one. I apologise in advance if I am breaking any protocol my doing this, put it down to COVID19. Enjoy Them Don R

13.01.2022 I did explain last time I went as a chaperone with my Granddaughter, who has just spent three years at university in Hawaii studying Forensic Science, this week... she as starting studying for her Masters at the University of Florida. So time moves on, the photos I am showing are all centred round & in the White House. You might recognise some of the places the rioters got into. I could spend a lot of time explaining what each shot represented, but I will let my photos do the talking. The White House been in the news just now, seems to be the right time to show these. I wont make any comments Re; Mr Trump. Don R

07.01.2022 Clair was asking if we would make a note of how far we walked. Can I take this a stage further, Think of it like a quote from Abraham Lincoln "It's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years. So when walking make a note of what you see either taking a photo (that's what I do ) or make a mental note of it. You would be surprised what passes you by. So here we go. Don R
