20.01.2022 Why it’s important you floss (your teeth that is, not the dance) 1. Your toothbrush can't reach the surfaces between your teeth which is where food often gets trapped making it a breeding ground for bacteria to build up, creating plaque.... 2. Built up plaque and bacteria will eventually begin to irritate gum tissue. When left untreated, this can eventually cause gingivitis, a periodontal disease that causes red and inflamed gums. 3. As well as causing irritation, the bacteria between your teeth will eventually also destroy your tooth’s enamel, causing cavities. 4. If left untreated, bacteria in an unhealthy mouth can harm the rest of your body as gingivitis can enter the bloodstream and travel to other parts of the body, leading to heart disease, diabetes and respiratory diseases. Hold a decent length of floss firmly between your thumbs and index fingers. Gently slide the floss in a "C-shape" up and down between your teeth, working it beneath the gum line on both sides.
