Word on the street is that hairdressing will open October 21st - happy for them, but we need to be happy for us! 25.01.2022 And congratulations to Anton Jusayan, our newest junior club champion. Junior club champs were held yesterday - also a great day for the weather. Well done to the some of the other players pictured here - Michael Livingstone (who won last year) and Kanta Nishimoto (who almost lives at the club!!). Great to see you all down at the club playing. When I get some pictures of the intermediate boys winner I will post too.

24.01.2022 Over 4,600 signatures now - 5k would be amazing. My local MP range me yesterday (Matt Fregon, Labour Mt Waverley). He confirmed that our petition has been submitted to DHSS and he committed to following up. I read the Age's commentary from Fridays standard press conference (which I didn't see) and note that community sport was mentioned and that different sports would come back soon, but likely with different rules around them). He mentioned meeting in a local park with his f...amily, as their "bubbles" intersect there - I said that's part of the problem, those are the only places people can go - so there are too many people, you don't know who is there, who they are with and so on - that's why opening up tennis is so safe. So, let's make sure that tennis is first cab off the rank for the opening up of community sport and tell your local MP know about our petition. When this petition was first sent to Matt Fregon, there were maybe 3,500 signatures - now we are closing in on 5K - let's make sure our efforts get a result and share, share, share.

14.01.2022 We are at 4,200 signatures now - time to step things up! Start forwarding this petition to your local MPs to push and make sure that tennis is one of the things they ask for when things start opening up. Hairdressers seems to know what's happening when - not sure why tennis doesn't, so we need to be persistent to get tennis front and centre of their thinking.... We also need to change the conversation to "How can we... open up safely" and be able to say that tennis could, because we have done it before during Stage 3 lockdown. We all heard how important the customer records were for that cafe in Kilmore (the extension of the Chadstone cluster problem). Well, tennis was doing all of that and more during Stage 3 lockdown and we can roll it out again immediately - we don't need to wait. Communities need to start opening up and we have to manage, not avoid, the risk (because it won't go away) - keeping us locked down to avoid risk isn't sustainable in any way, shape or form. Keep sharing and stay positive (not with COVID though!)

Junior and senior tournament results are entered and there are an increasing number of UTR events being offered in Australia. This is a curriculum day for students and a great opportunity to get some matchplay (you will play 3 other people in 8 game sets in a round robin format) in before the weekend, when competition resumes. Well done to Andrew Ilett who is this years winner, and to Josh Chia and Andres Urrego Varon who gave him a run for his money in the semis and final respectively. Thanks to everyone else who came and played too- you got some much needed match practice for next week!

02.01.2022 Those case numbers are stubborn and I am hoping that this will trigger a re-evaluation of what's realistic before things can open up. I've said since I started this petition that we need to change the conversation to being about what can be opened up safely - and its a complete no-brainer that activities like golf and tennis, which managed so well in Stage 3 lockdown with bookings and records of everyone at their venues, should be open. I feel the same way about cafes and res...taurants that collect customer data and manage their business in a COVID safe way. To me opening these activities makes much more sense than unregulated visits to other peoples homes, packing out local parks because of limited leisure options. If you feel the same way, encourage more people to sign - there is pressure building to re-evaluate the roadmap, and our petition reinforces that pressure. Check out how your postcode has responded and if you think your numbers are low, then share the petition again. Most clubs have many more members, let alone the people that get coaching who aren't club members. It's up to us to let them know about the petition, as they most likely aren't on this page. People need to see things more than once - and you need to let them know why t...his is important to you to get their support. Don't forget, its not a done deal that we will open up Oct 19th.
