25.01.2022 Saturday 16th June is World Sea Turtle Day, and this spectacular light sculpture is currently on display at Taronga Zoo in Sydney. 18.01.2022 Students from Seaforth State School recently enjoyed some exciting outdoor learning experiences on their 2018 Whitsunday Reef Guardian Camp. The school newsletter reports that "students have become more aware of the environment, developed outdoor skills and a greater appreciation for our Great Barrier Reef and Nature". Did you know that their parrot-like beaks have powerful teeth for grinding up dead coral, which they excrete as sand? They effectively clean the reef of algae, allowing new coral to grow. 13.01.2022 Tiffany & Co, the famous New York-based jewellery retailer, has recently committed $1.4 million to help preserve and protect the Great Barrier Reef. Part of their commitment is the Out of the Blue Box Reef Innovation Challenge, which is a global call for ideas that will ease pressures on the Reef. One winning concept will earn a prize of $300,000. Check out their website.

13.01.2022 Whitsunday Discovery Tours was pleased to co-host the Skiffington family from Sydney on an exciting 4-day visit to the Great Barrier Reef and Whitsunday Islands last week. Connor Skiffington was the winner of our schools competition, which invited entrants to say in 25 words or less how they would save the Great Barrier Reef. The family thoroughly enjoyed their trip, and sent us this little thank-you note: "We had such a fantastic time snorkelling today at the Great Barrier Reef, made all the better for having the tutorial yesterday. We cant thank you enough for this wonderful prize and looking after us so well." We enjoyed meeting them too!
