10.01.2022 In whats become a regular fixture after Sunday Nights live stream for Aunty Eds Katoomba, Music in the Mountains hangs back just a little longer and records another song or two. Well, this week we have two for you - this one being one of Rebecca Manns new songs to be included on an EP she is recording right now with the studio team behind Future State Band (they too have a something coming out soon however that is a conversation for another day) . . . Crone is an engagi...ng song that demonstrates Rebeccas development as a singer-songwriter (avoiding the usual trope of singer-songwriters being monotone and same-samey across songs) creating an emotional story that draws you in. We just cant wait for the EP later this year, but tune in on Friday as Rebecca sang one more tune for us. Once again, if you like what you hear - send Rebecca a virtual tip (paypal.me/rebeccamannmusic). Share & let us know what you think.

06.01.2022 This week, Robbie Mann and Neill Duncan are performing for us - Like what you hear? Send Robbie a tip - PayPal.me/DonateToRobbie Were not quite out of isolation yet, so Music in the Mountains & Aunty Eds have got another live stream coming your way this Sunday evening at 6pm.... Slack-Off Sundays: We know what youre thinking - youre at home in isolation and missing your usual Sunday Night fix at Aunty Eds (wouldnt you just love a Cheese Louise & chips right now!). Well, youre in luck as Aunty Eds, Music in the Mountains, and some of our favourite musicians are proud to present Slack-Off Sundays in Isolation. Enjoy free live music every Sunday from 6:00 pm - 6:30 pm live-streamed to your own lounge room. Our artists are generously donating their time to entertain you from the living rooms, and we will be posting a link each week where you can make a donation, give a tip, or a contribution directly to the musician. Robbie specialises in a style of early jazz piano known as Stride. Born of ragtime, the term stride was coined for reasons that will be immediately recognisable if you spy the left hand of a well-versed practitioner. Stride, in its purest form, is a rarely heard idiom and Robbie is one of the very few masters of the style in Australia. While many a pianist may be fine purveyors of the accurate leaping left hand, Stride piano is a much more specific adherence to particular rhythms and mannerisms. For a demonstration, one must simply listen to some of the founding masters of the style. The music of James P. Johnson, Willie The Lion Smith, Fats Waller and Donald Lambert would constitute an excellent start. While Robbie often fuses his genuine grasp of stride with many other forms of music, to great expressive effect and artistic exploration, the soul of the music remains unmistakably, Stride Piano. Stride is especially suited to solo performance due to its emphasis on the ability to mimic an entire rhythm section in the left hand. Robbie regularly performs as a solo artist, including a mix of ragtime, stomps and eccentric arrangements of eclectic melodies amongst established jazz standards.

06.01.2022 Cheers dad! Happy Fathers Day!

Adrian and Boris have played together in many ensembles however more recently have been instrumental (all puns intended) in the K-Town Funky Horns. For this performance, the Lounge Catz will take the free swingin' sound of the Funky Horns, and distil it towards a smoother and laid back texture. Wanna dance? Put your feet up? Either way, the Lounge Catz have got your covered!

This week, Crow Mountain will be performing some bluegrass tunes for you. Like what you hear? Send Crow Mountain a virtual tip (PayPal.me/crowmountain). AND this week, Crow mountain will be donating your tips to the Blue Mountains Hospital Auxiliary. The Auxiliary has been raising funds for Blue Mountains District ANZAC Memorial Hospital for more than 90 years. The auxiliary raises funds from the quilt show, an annual fete, a high tea, a musical concert, various raffles and donations from supportive organisations, businesses and groups. These funds are used to purchase equipment for patient care at the Blue Mountains District ANZAC Memorial Hospital, and help make the lives of patients and staff more comfortable. Crow Mountain are an Australian old-time country and folk duo, performing original, traditionally flavoured tunes of unnerving honesty and effortless beauty. Drawing on their Blue Mountains roots, Megan Legg (mandolin) and Ben Thomas (banjo and guitar), regularly performing alongside John Lee (fiddle), Quentin Fraser (dobro) and Paul Abrahams (double bass), blend old-time, bluegrass instrumentation with honey-dipped harmonies, painting aural portraits of human frailty and grit, sorrow and strength, love and redemption. Their original songs are rich in the sound and story-telling of traditional country music of growing up in isolation; jumping freight trains to get where you need to be; of getting out of town and returning beaten, with the past at your heels. In 2019 Crow Mountain performed at the inaugural Sydney Folk Festival, and at the Katoomba Old-Timey Folk Festival, Dorrigo Folk & Bluegrass Festival and Mountaingrass Bluegrass & Old-Time Festival, as well as venues around the Blue Mountains and across regional New South Wales. They released their debut EP, Shallow Water in 2018, and have a new self-titled recording due in mid-2020.
